Average cost to bend PING irons a degree stronger

BY#99

Recommended Posts

I am considering strengthening my lofts on an entire set of irons. What is a good price to have this done. Basically want to make it simple and do a degree or two per iron. I was given a price of $13 a club for PINGS. Is this good? Or should i send them directly to PING (what would they charge)?

If I could get $13/club to bend a set of Pings I'd get back in the club business. I think Golf Galaxy/Dicks charges around $30 to do a full set of irons. I'd say around $5/club is pretty fair.

Honest question - can you even notice 1 degree? Are they accurate enough bending irons that they can actually hit 1 degree?

The loft and lie machine at my local shop has .5 degree increment marks on the guage. He claims he can bend accordingly.

Pings are more difficult to adjust though aren’t they? As far as I know it’s not as simple as bending a forged iron is.

It’s nonsense. All the same, just a little more force to do them.

Good to know. I always thought that’s why people made such a big deal about the colour of the dot because they were hard to bend.

I've got a digital machine. If you wanna ship them to me with a pre-paid shipping back I'll bend em for free.

Although that may cost you more than getting it done locally.

Thanks so much for the offer. I did a little research and their is a Gold Digest top 100 fitter about an hour from me that is a PING certified club fitter. Gonna call them tomorrow and hopefully drop them off this week.

From what I inow, Ping will change the color if they are bent away from current specs to a new one. I think most comment on that because they want the color to match their respective lie angle. I think Ping also uses molds for the heads so there’s less potential for marring that you can potentially get with many of the machines. With a properly mounted and good quality machine, they aren’t an issue to bend.

Anyone ever bend a set of Iblades Powerspec even stronger ? say 1 degree more than Powerspec in 4 through 7 ?

At this point you might as well just trade those in for i500s!

I sent my G30’s to Ping and they not only changed the lie they repainted the dots. Excellent work.

Next week I’m sending in the G700 set I just bought for the same treatment. I know others can do it, but since it’s so easy to have the OEM do it why

wouldn’t I?

When Ping does the work, it goes into their records and maintains their explicit and implied warranties. They are the best in the business about replaced defective clubs; if somebody else has changed the loft or lie, not so much.

Went to the fitter today that was about an hour away and they basically said the same thing. They do not even do the irons in house for a ping they send them out as well. Got my lie angles checked and good there so will be sending them to ping. Estimated about $30-35 plus shipping so fair deal.

Good grief. Less than 60 seconds per club, counting time to mount them in the machine, even for Pings. Bent my G30's a few times for loft and lie at the club and a friendly club builder for free. What is with the mystique of bending Pings these days?

Have you price a good loft/lie machine? Guess they’re just trying to recoup a few bucks and charge for the service of doing it. Some think pings are easier to break so it’s best to let ping do it.

I think he's talking about the first quote the OP got at $13/club.

Yea that’s ridiculous. $3-$5 per club or $25-$30 for a set is the norm around here.

You pay shipping to Ping (or they’ll send you a label for $20).  Any combination of loft and/or lie adjustments are $40.  $20 to ship it back.  So, about $80 all-in.

Shipped them some irons last week, they received them this Monday, they shipped back out today, and I’ll have them back on Monday.  G410 irons, green dot to blue dot.  A few weeks ago, I sent them some i210 irons to change loft and lie, and those maybe took an extra day or two for the work.
