FWIW the i500 irons are not hollow but has a fair amount of hot melt.

Not true.

Well,I unscrew the nut and indeed there was hotmelt in every head. Some more than others plus there are different weight screws as well, probably for swing weight.

Could be the hot melt and screws are for swingweight. They would not use hot melt as the filler material for hollow bodies. They'd use something like thermplastic material

The screws are how I thought they were going to adjust swing weight. My bad. Have not seen any with hotmelt.

Took out my Apex CF16's and hit them for a while as a comparison to the i500's that I've been playing for the last month. I couldn't believe how harsh they felt compared to the i500's. It also appeared that the i500's were giving much better shot dispersion than the Apex CF16's.

I cant wait to play mine in competition and hit them some more

It is how they are adjusting swingweight, according to Ping. My pro shop was to order mine D2, but they "forgot" to tell Ping. When they arrived at D0 I called Ping and they requested I send them back to have the screws replaced to achieve D2. They refused to send me heavier screws and wanted to swing weight them in-house. I might do that this winter as I'm having way to much fun right now to not have them in the bag. Each round I have 4-5 shots that blow my mind.

Played this morning with i500 5, 6 and 7 irons in retro spec. They do exactly what I wanted, which is to fly higher and spin more and stop quicker than my IE1's. Have ordered 8-U.

I didn't have a problem with feedback. Caught a couple thin when warming up and they let you know all about that. Forgiveness was pretty good off the toe which seemed to be my miss. I hit one shocker of a 6 iron where I missed the grooves it was so far to the toe and it dived out of the air and ran to 165, but hit greens with all my other shots.

I know that toe miss -- I had to think "cut" when I swung to get rid of it.

I'm hoping, and I'm fairly confident, that the main problem with the toe hit was how different the static and swing weights are between my old irons and the i500's.

When I hit a few i500's in a row on the range I moved the strike to the middle. I don't think it was helpful having to change to much heavier swing and static weights every second iron shot (my old irons are too heavy for me).

I finally played my first 18 with them, what i saw:

Not as soft as my cobras and the feel on mishits lets you know it was bad.

I got old school s300s, my flight is actually mid low but i can hit high as well but its not launching way high, very much the same as any other i played.

I have power spec lofts distance was the same as my forged tec irons with similar lofts, the long irons are deep but the rest are consistent.

My cobras draw and these tend to fade and miss right. I hit some poor shots and some good ones, distance is good and playability.

Only thing i wasnt crazy about was the fade and feel. I could work and flight them just wasnt accurate at all only hitting them once.

Great looks though and i bet once i use them 4-5 times i will get a feel of how to hit them and the natural shot shape and know distances.

I shot 75 in mens club never hitting before on grass so wasnt too bad.

I wonder if the fade is due to a change the offset? I had this problem when trying to play Rogue X irons. Everything went to the left. Had to make some adjustments on setup to get it to go straight. The i500's offset seems to be very close to that of the Apex CF16's so literally no adjustment at all. In fact, I'm getting much better dispersion with the i500's than any other club I've used.

i500's have similar offset to the Callaway Apex MBs (i500s slightly less offset in short irons, slightly more in the long irons), every other Callaway iron has considerably more offset than the i500 (rogue X irons have 2-3x more offset than i500s, CF16s have ~1.75-2x more offset than i500s). i500s have true blade level offset (almost none).

EDIT: If you get retro spec lofts, you lose about 0.06" offset, making the retro spec i500 the lowest offset iron set currently for sale among major brands (don't know if there is some JDM blade with the same (zero) offset).

I do notice that, my forged tec blacks have way more offset, i hit both on the range i would draw my cobras every shot and the i500s every shot was a fade.

I bet its the head shape and offset compared to mine so u just need a few rounds and ill be golden.

Did everyone find the i500s long?

I compared the face shape and size of the i500's in retro spec to my old IE1's and as far as I could tell they were identical.

The top edge of the i500 is very similar although it's bevelled in such a way that it appears smaller. i500 has a lot less offset so at the ball it looks like an IE1 with less offset; even the lofts are nearly identical. The big difference is that the i500 trajectory is a lot higher.

I finally had a chance to hit the I500's today 5-PW. They felt great had a good strong flight and seemed to stop just fine. If I were to compare the tech in this club to anything I'd say its more like the fairway wood slot. My favourite part of the I500's was the forgivness on miss hits. They still flew off line, but I didn't see such a drastic loss in carry. I know they are called players distance irons, but id say they are more like smart blades. If any has any questions feel free to hit me up.
