I love the Tiger / Reed pairing as much as the next guy, but if you don’t think Fleeteood / Molinari have no chance of beating them you’re crazy. It doesn’t matter that Tiger won last week and that Molinari had a bad week. Fleetwood and Molinari are 2 of the best ballstrikers in the world and can both go on Birdie tears. It should be an awesome match.

Real talk: I could see Steady Eddie Molinari racking up pars and an occasional birdie while letting Fleetwood go Coo Coo For Coco Puffs on birdies and eagles. It might be the best pairing for the morning wave.

 

 

TW just had a 29 and 30 on the front nine at the tour championship. Add in some Captain America action and. They could shoot a net 27 on the front nine....

After being a long time reader I'm pretty sure this is my first post.

 

Incredibly excited, as usual, for this to get started! As a Brit my views may be a little skewed, but after reading through this thread I had to join in.

 

As a few have mentioned there are some surprise pairings (and in turn matches) that could be fascinating to watch this morning. There is no doubt that the USA team would have a lower average score if this were a 4 day stroke play tournament based on current form. However, this is why we all love watching this event; the pivotal moments of genius that could happen at any time don't only count for one stroke. Any shot could make a difference between win/lose/half or a one or two point gain for the team. I can see most matches making the last two holes, with the 15th, 16th, 17th & 18th being great matchplay holes there could be some surprise results.

 

For me;

 

Rose & Rahm is a strong opening duo. Both are confident, Rahm is great on the attack and with Rose rarely making huge mistakes.

 

McIlroy & Olesen could win 5&4 or lose 5&4

 

Casey & Hatton may struggle. Two interesting characters that will need to go up early.

 

Molinari & Fleetwood would be a better Foursome pairing (They still may be), but will be hard to beat. Europe's best ball strikers.

 

There have been a few comments about the opening ceremony. Yes, it was a little like a gameshow at times. This is part of the greater vision to grow the game in countries where participation is in decline. I doubt many serious golf fans tuned into the "celebrity Ryder Cup" earlier this week, but it may have been the first experience of our game for many. If these events have put golf under the eyes of few kids for the first time on instagram, youtube, etc, then its worth doing it. Who knows who it might inspire.

I can't wait for the near future when all this will be pushed to Wednesday so we can add another day of competition. I think they will switch it to 6 alternate shots matches on Thursday, 6 best ball matches on Friday. (Captain's choice of course) The current four and four on Saturday and the 12 Sunday singles.

 

Why?

 

 

 

The Euros need to squeeze every last dollar out of this event to keep their tour afloat. If the PGA Tour buys the PGA of America and takes over the American side, the chances of this happening triple.

These dudes play against each other every week, 36 weeks a year. I don't really find this exciting just because they are on teams now. It's not even half as exciting as seeing Tiger make one of the greatest comebacks in Golf history.

Haven’t read the thread yet. My 2 cents:

 

Match 1 - a toss up

Match 2 - US win (not sold on thunderbear)

Match 3 - US win (that’s a weak euro team, spieth has been a mess but I bet he plays well for this event)

Match 4 - Euro win.

 

I think that Frankie/Tommy team is the best team out on the Euro side tomorrow am. They are going to be super solid. Tiger is playing great, but who knows how well he will putt. Reed has been off. Rooting for Tiger, but I think euros pull this one off.

I caught some of the opening ceremony on replay - boy was that brutal. Jim Furyk droning on and on, and pausing after every sentence for an applause during his speech. I thought watching him golf was boring, but that topped it.
