The 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National (MERGED)

Ah, Phil was frustrated, just venting, much ado about nothing much. To Tiger, he was just tired. Mentally, physically whipped. Won his biggest event in years, hops on a plane for eight or nine hours, plays a practice round or two while still jetlagged, then plays in a highly charged atmosphere. He needed a bunch of captain Jim's 5 Hour Energy.

yep...exactly, on all counts.

If that is how Phil really felt, then he would be consigning himself to tournaments most fans don't give a hoot about. I don't see Phil being content with that. He needs some time at the casino to get bored with life outside of golf.

I do think that the FedEx Cup series wore a lot of people out, Phil and Tiger being the oldest were probably the most worn out.

I don't think Phil and Tiger are Ryder Cup material any more, but certainly, Phil can compete on tough courses where birdies are at a premium. He probably doesn't have to worry about seeing rough like that again in his competitive lifetime.

so he isn't going to play in any united states opens then?

I'm sure he will, but he still probably won't see rough like that. Although, if I recall, Merion had some pretty tall stuff, as did Chambers Bay...

You are really saying rough was easier at the US Open than at Le National?!?!

Yes, that's what I was saying.

FORE RIGHT!!!!

Uhh, with the way he was smashing some of those ball out of the rough, there is zero chance his back is hurting him.

A friend saw a top shoulder surgeon today who had watched the press conference and was pretty confident Woods had taken some pretty serious meds. Who knows what for but it's hard to square the way he was going at the ball in the rough with how he looked at the press conference.

Ah come on man, here we go again "Tiger is on drugs",,,,,geez.....

He looked like a guy that just got whipped 0-4, what's he supposed to look like?

And I'm not even a Tiger fan, but that's complete **

you mean 42 year old guy that has a fused back and a year ago didn't even know if he'd be playing professional golf again. To then go complete a full year comeback, play well enough all year long to qualify for the FedEx race, win a tournament AFTER playing 7 times in 9 weeks, then flew across the world to play for the 8th time in 10 weeks looks exhausted?

But let's just run to the conclusion he is clearly on drugs again and his back is broken.

Give the guy a break. He played 19 tournaments this year and only missed 2 cuts. That's 72 professional rounds of golf. Probably 200% more golf than what he realistically thought he was going to play this year.

No excuses, but my bet is Tiger had a virus, same as another (Bubba) did. I don't think he felt well.

Bottom line, the US Team had it taken to them, pure and simple, the best team easily won.

Ya, TW had a cold and was hopped up on nyquil, I think.

Had that quil hazy look.

Man, I love me some cherry quil.

Wife be like,

You not even sick anymore, put down that quil!

; )

*I do not condone excessive tasty quil consumption.

It was a bit like the McGregor fight at the weekend.

The heir apparent walks in with his wobbly arms, pretending to be the GOAT (that's you Tiger), looks good for the first minute (Thursday morning) then spends 4 rounds getting slapped around the octagon (Thursday afternoon - Sunday), before someone goes nuts and jumps in two footed (Reed-Spieth/Phil-grass)

Yeah, the cold meds you got over there are something else.

Or, as Charlie Harper once said: "Not bad, not bad at all."

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I look at the Ryder Cup as being on a level with the majors. Since 1861 there are only 36 times a major was won by someone over 40 years of age and a few did it multiple times; Old Tom Morris (4), Hogan and Nicklaus (3). The last guy to win a major in their 40s was Phil in 2013 and he's the 9th oldest player to win one. Julius Boros holds the record at 48.

Point? Statistically it is extremely rare for someone to win a major in their 40s. So, winning matches at the Ryder Cup for someone in their 40s isn't in the cards.

No more picks like Phil and Tiger; they are too old to win in that format.

I guess that's part of the problem, every time they lose its an exhibition, it doesn't matter and we weren't trying.

If that's the case the PGA should totally revamp the selection process and bring in young, hungry players that do want to win. Too many of the team at the moment love an excuse for playing so poorly.

I look as the Ryder Cup as the exhibition it was intended to be. Once it's over, it's over.

Says the guy with post number 5021 three weeks down the line.

At this rate we'll be able to merge this thread with the 2020 Ryder Cup Thread.

US fans trying to convince others they don't care after a lost Ryder Cup is one of the traditions of this exhibition :D (also, nearly 170 pages)

Just like this thread, one of the reasons the US gets its Word not allowed kicked is the fact that we try to over think everything. The Euros just play golf. All I hear about is Phil sucked and Tiger sucked. There was only 3 guys that played good golf on the US side. That leaves 9 others that stunk it up. The European team hit fairways and sunk putts which equals to winning. It's not rocket science. And I'll guarantee you the players don't think it's a exhibition.

If the US fans didn't care and this was actually treated as an exhibition, the European Tour would be in financial trouble.

The Euros need our rage people!

Also classic, delusional posts of the victorious Euros thinking their tour is as good as the one in the US. The Euros ready to retire to Bedlam will even claim their tour is better.

European Tour is indeed better for various aspects, but there is more money on the PGA Tour, still this has nothing to do with US fans trying to convince people they don’t care :D now I will just stop responding your angry posts, ciao ;)

I know I'm not Capt Furyk, but I would definitely rest Tiger Sat afternoon and get him ready for singles on Sunday.
