Well I'm super excited! The Korean team is my three favorite players together. This sort of aligning of the stars just doesn't happen often in real life. I was super curious how they'd team off, would love to know how they decided. I'd really been guessing Sung Hyun + In Gee and SYR + IK.

That gap in the picture is just hilarious, great work 4waymiss! She's almost a yard farther away than necessary! Truly fearless and only on her own beat.

Just can't wait... Hope everyone's various body ailments are ok, and it's a treat for the players getting lots of fan and media attention in Korea. Hope this is a great fun blowout battle.

Does anyone know why Thidapa Suwannapura is not on the Thai team? This has been a breakout year for her, and she is easily the fourth best Thai golfer.

The player selections occurred on 7/2/18. Thidapa was ranked 163rd at that point, 8 spots behind Sherman at #155. Thidapa had a great July and August, and climbed to #79.

That is such a tough break for Thidapa and quite frankly, the Thai team. This will probably get me tarred and feathered but I'm thinking Sherman shoulda did an Inbee here and bowed out. There is a gigantic difference between a player who has gotten over the line at the highest level, and one who has yet to make any kind of name for herself on the LPGA. I don't begrudge Sherman at all, I'm just kidding around. But I still say the Thai team would be considerably stronger with Thidapa.

Na! I am a fan of Thidapa, and as someone who has followed her closely I am aware of her weaknesses/limitations. At this point in time her resume consists of a fabulous 6 week block (albeit, very recent).

I was checking out the betting markets and I'm kinda shocked at what I see as the lack of respect for the Australian team they are ranked 7th out of the 8 teams. Although I would rank them 5th or 6th I guess with the ability to place much higher as an underdog. I guess a debate can be had between Aus and Japan but ranking Sweden ahead of Aus seems ridiculous to me. Beside Anna who hasn't really been in form this season and Penilla who had an amazing week and hasn't dine that much since , what does Sweden bring to the table. Plus based on the groups without any surprises, I would have Aus finishing 3rd in their group and Sweden finishing 4th in theirs. Anyways I always find it interesting to see the rankings from the places that actually have money on the line. Although I guess the path is easier for a hot Sweden to make the finals being in the USA group than a hot Aus with S.Korea and Eng in their group.

I always love to see In Gee involved but...how did she get selected ahead of Hye Jin Choi, Jiyai Shin and possibly a few others, Jin Young Ko and Amy Yang? Perhaps i just need to check the world rankings at the cut-off date...

The other players declined, as the event conflicts with the final KLPGA major of the season. They have to do a better job avoiding conflict with the other tours.

Other than Minjee, the Australian players haven't done much this season either.

Caroline has won on the LET this season I believe.

It appears that tickets sales at the event are setting records, and it'll be the highest attended golf tournament in Korean history. I can only imagine it'll be crazy on Sunday if the Korean Team is in contention.

Minjee and Su are better than Anna and Penilla IMO and Hedwall is a mess of a player and Kirk has also won but on the LPGA, I guess agree to disagree, nothing about Sweden impresses me

No doubt Minjee is in a class of her own. Su is having a mediocre season at best, and is behind Anna and Pernilla on the money list. She's missed 8 cuts. Caroline may be a mess at times, but she has 9 professional wins. She has 4 top 10's on the LET this year in 7 events.

I'm not saying that Sweden is impressive, but rather that Australia (minus Minjee) isn't setting the world on fire.

After the disaster that was the RC (from my viewpoint obviously) I'm pumped to see some more international team competition. Should be enjoyable, and it's in primetime as well.

I'm all about prime time golf. At least this will be competitive! :cheesy:

Lol. I really don't like alternate shot, i.e. foursomes. You take the best players on the planet, and they get to hit every other shot? Pffffttttt. The IC has the right idea. Fourballs every match.

Yep idiotic scheduling, for an event to occur the same week as a major tour event of the host county's own tour. Insulting even by LPGA/Clown.

Just heard that Ariya is going to use a driver this week. What's the big idea? Reminds me of Phil (Mickelson) changing his golf clubs on the eve of the 2004 Ryder Cup--kind of makes you question how badly they want to win.

With a steady playing partner, I think it's worth the risk. However, she's playing with Sherman, and not Pornanong. Pornanong would be good for 18 pars at worst.

That said, there's little risk in match play, as a big number is no worse than a bogie.

I can see they probably have no where else to put the event. It was supposed to be Malaysia stop last week, which got cancelled three months ago. The only way it could have avoided the KLPGA major was to put the Malaysia stop right after the Evian , and leaves a gap week between IC and the Hana Bank next week, which would have left some IC players who also play in the Hana Bank hanging for a week in Korea. Not to mention having the Malaysia stop right after the Evian may cause some top players to skip it.

In this case, I think it is up to the KLPGA to avoid the elephant in the room.

What's wrong with hanging out a week in Korea? It'll likely be years before the IC returns to Korea, so it's not like it's a yearly schedule blip.

I just don't see the KLPGA moving one of their majors to accommodate a one time LPGA event.

78 Staff now there's a name from the past. Nice hear from you. I had to look at the name because I thought 3Putt was making an appearance. Totally agree. Why would you schedule the event when it conflicts with the final KLPGA major of the season? We all know the answer. "It's the only time we could do it.. blah blah blah.."

Argonne you're killing it with all the information. Thanks.

The dates for the IC were set 15 months ago. I doubt the KLPGA had realeased their 2018 schedule yet. Last year this KLPGA major was in November.

In Gee will bring in more fans than the players who passed to play in the KLPGA major.

I traced the date when LPGA put out their 2018 schedule to mid Dec , 2017. But according to Seamus, the date was set even months before that. I am not sure when KLPGA put out their schedule, but the "2018 LPGA of Korea" page on wikipedia was started on Jan 8, 2018.

In that case, it is definitely up to KLPGA to work around the IC.

I'm quite surprised by the size of the grandstand behind the 1st tee. After seeing the stadium at the Ryder Cup, it's rather disappointing.

The KLPGA is certainly not going to work around the IC. The fact that several top ranked Korean players chose to skip the IC clearly shows the priority the players put on the events.
