The Srixon U45/65/85 driving irons are really the best of the bunch in this category. Lean towards p790 or TMB if you really need a narrower sole for tough lies, but both are twice as less forgiving as the Srixons.

I know when I'm hitting a 2i i need all the forgiveness I can get.

I have to agree. I just bagged the 2i udi with the same shaft as my irons. Straight, low flight that just cuts through the wind. Carrying ~225 or so.

I've really enjoyed this thread, and the quoted message from WanLefty is of most interest. I've had a 2 iron in my bag for every round for the past 10 years at least, and I've only ever had two two different irons in that time. The first was the original Mizuno Fli-Hi back in the day, with a Project X Flighted shaft. Most recently and the Callaway Apex UT with KBS Tour V. Both steel shaft, both arrow straight with little spin, in the summer months I use my 2 iron for at least 9 of my 18 tee shots, mainly on holes where anything offline is punished. The KBS Tour V (110g Stiff) shaft still suits me perfectly as I found out during my Titleist T100 fitting. My question is this to anyone else that loved the Apex UT with the KBS Tour V in (which was the stock shaft), have you found something that is longer, more forgiving, but just as straight hitting? Accuracy is the priority, hence I've stuck with steel for so long. Hitting a low stinger is more important than holding a green for me. The likes of the KBS TGI shaft interests me, perhaps in a PXG or P790 UDI head. The Srixon gets rave reviews, but is a chunky looking thing and doesn't seem as low flighting as many. Anyone else been on a similar journey and has a recommendation?

I have the Srixon ZU85 3 iron. It is an awesome club, very forgiving and feels great.

I just got fit into the Mizuno MP20 MMC 4-PW yesterday. I hit these irons head to head against the Srixon Z785 but the Mizunos won by far on feel. It was just that solid Mizuno forges metal feel that everyone loves. The Srixon was not as soft and felt clickier.

I have never hit the Mizuno MP20 HMB 3 iron before, but am wondering how it feels vs the Srixon ZU85. My OCD has me wanting to brand match my 3 iron with my irons.

Anyone hit these 2 side by side? (Srixon ZU85 and Mizuno MP20 HMB - 2/3 irons)

What can you tell me about the forgiveness and feel of these 2?

This. Got the 2 iron which I put in the bag on windy days or Links golf instead of my Hybrid, and just ordered a 4 iron off eBay to go with it.

If you want a measure of how good they are though, look at the prices asked for 2 and 3 irons..... Nike Vapor Fly Pro 3 Iron RH Stiff Flex DG Pro S300 Brookes Koepka | eBay

0341ba59-d6e1-486a-922a-de60f0cf8a74.jpegPing G410 Crossover 17* superseded my Callaway MB 2 iron, Srixon U45 and 790.

Its super easy to hit, elevate, flat trajectory, anti-left (dispersion pattern is either straight or a 10 yard cut),right spin rate and the tour 85 shaft is well suited for me.

I am very tempted to get the 20* version to replace my 3 iron....

THIS GUY RIGHT HERE:

image.pngI've have a 21 degree that's been in my bag almost as long as I've been on WRX. It has seen a couple of shaft tweaks and been regripped about 10 times, but I can't ever imagine getting rid of it.

My Sub70 699u has gotten me interested in more Sub70 products... It's been a great addition to my bag. The other driving irons I tried either felt like bulked up regular irons or hollow hybrids... 699u meets in the middle... has ample forgiveness, but feels solid.

I’ve played both. hmb has a smaller sole and to me is as forgiving because it glides through the turf easy for me. I’m a very big fan of the HMB. Don’t see it leaving the bag.

I love the PXG 0311X. Great look at address if weakened a degree or two to pull out any offset and match up better with iron set lofts, great feel and very forgiving.
