Best all around Driving irons? Whats you opinion?

Nothing can still knock my #3 original UDI out of the bag. It's absolute money off the tee and deck. It's my perfect 260 yard club off the tee and about 245 off the deck with a nice high soft trajectory. Perfect DI in my opinion.

What shaft did you pair it up with? I have a TP UDI 2i and experimenting with shafts to find the right one. Going to put in a 4i (hsx2) steelfiber 110 stiff shaft into it next.

Thought I’d chime in too

I put in a hardstepped 110x and a straight in 125x (recoil protos) into my tp udi when I played it. Disliked both setups. Felt harsh and not suited for what I was looking for, probably darts in the short irons though.

I comparatively play a black tie hm4 105x now that feels smoother and just as tight as the mentioned shafts. Although you’d think black tie would be telephone pole. The ck pro white is so smooth too for what it is. There are other examples of shafts like this. Personally I’d avoid the steelfiber or recoil setup in the 2i udi. Go with a 100/105 profile in hybrid shaft or light steel (105-115).

I tinkered with a Ctaper 130X, then Hzrdus Black 100, then Tensei Pro White 90, and finally settled in on Tensei Pro White 100TX. The 90 produced a tremendous flight off the deck but was hitting a little too high off the tee for me. The 100 I just cut if off the deck to get the height and it's perfect off the tee.

I've been using my Controller 17° driving iron on and off for 20 years. Very effective club, keeps the ball low and get a ton of roll. Looking at the Srixon u85 18° with s300 steel shaft.

Anyone use the u85 with steel over graphite shaft?

I matched my irons with a Pro Modus 130X in the U65 first because I knew the Miyazaki wasn't for me and couldn't really test anything else. Really loved it for about a month until I switched to the GD DI-105X. The graphite is lighter to swing and still very stable. Picked up more ball speed and a stronger flighted tee ball which went about 15-20m further. They definitely aren't short to begin with, as I used it while my 3w was being replaced under warranty and lost very little. Another shaft to look at is the PX HZRDS Black that my mate has in his DI which loads really nicely.

I don't expect a ton of support on this one, but after a lot of testing my favorite is shockingly the Wilson FG V4 utility. I didn't expect it, but it's been the best for me off the turf and tee.

I back that! I've been playing a Wilson FG V4 utility 3 iron with a Kuro Kage in it for a while. I've tried to replace it but I cant find anything that feels, and performs as well off the deck or or tee.

I don’t know about you guys but the new Ping G410 Crossover has my attention. Looking forward to seeing some reviews on that one when it’s released.

+1. I was about to pull the trigger on the srixon when I saw the 410 announcement. Just switched to ping irons last year (i200) and have been super happy. I like my g400 hybrid, but looking for something a little lower flight to sub in on windy days. G400 crossover is hard to look at, but the 410 appears to be the answer I’m looking for from a brand I’ve got a lot of trust in right now.

P790 UDi was an absolute WEAPON in my bag this year.Driver SS around 118 and stock Length, HZRDUS Black 85 6.5 was perfect. Any flight off the tee, and easy to elevate baby fades off the deck.

Was my favorite club in my bag until I noticed that my face has begun to cave in.Minor right now, and potentially usable but definitely noticeable.

I tried the U45 and T-MB as DI and really didn't get along with either. Just figured I was doomed to be a hybrid guy. Then I found a Mizuno MP-H4 head here (3i) for a great price. Figured what the hell, and paired it with an Aldila NVS 85 hybrid shaft... it is by far the easiest "DI" I have tried. Feels good and elevates the ball nicely for a long iron. So much better through the turf than the U45 was for me, too. Been a pleasant surprise... not overwhelmingly long, but it does what I need it to with ample distance.

I'm very surprised no one mentioned the Callaway X-Forged UT. Last year I swapped out the original UT for the X-Forged UT and never looked back. It was a giant step forward and if you like the long iron look with utility benefits, this is your club.

I have the 21 degree and it's great off the tee, deck and out of the rough. I can hit a low bullet or loft it whenever needed.

Mizuno MP-18 MMC FLI-HI for me. Have it in a 3 iron, same shaft as the rest of my irons & love it. Hit it 225 all day off the tee, 215+ off the deck. Straight n forgiving!

Chiming in from a lefty perspective - we don't get all your fancy right handed offerings!

For me I started with Callaway Apex UT (both 2018 and older) which were excellent - feel goes to the older model - not as tinny. I eventually moved away from them as they were not as good from the deck for me as I don't traditionally love wide soles.

I then found a steal on an original TM UDI which I paired with a steelfiber 110x and it is a weapon, but in 18* for me I can't use it off the fairway as much as I would like, a little too much role for that spot in the bag.

So i settled on a TM P790 3# with the same steelfiber 100x and this thing is a CANNON! every bit as long as the TM UDI, however, I can elevate it from the deck to hit into greens also. No issues flighting it down and it is forgiving as anything, with what feels like a much smaller head and sole.

Big time sleeper is the Dynacraft Driving Iron. Forged face and hollow body. I have the 3iron with a Miyazaki Kuala stiff shaft in it and I like it better than the Mizuno Fli Hi and Taylormade P790 UDI I have previously owned. For the price it was an easy gamble to make that paid off.

I've hit them all and had most of them. I haven't used a hybrid in many, many years - only driving irons for me. They're all good in their own ways but boy, you should definitely try the PXG. I'm not a fan of PXG irons - and most recently sold mine - but that damn driving iron is still in the bag and I don't have any reason to take it out. The thing is an ABSOLUTE cannon of the tee and very easy to hit off turf. Previously, I had the T-MB for quite some time and that was one of the best all around driving irons I've used. I may be the minority here, but the P790 UDI did NOT feel good whatsoever and I wasn't a fan at all. If you can score a deal on a PXG driving iron, I would heavily recommend trying one out... Just my $0.02.

Wow, I'm surprised that only two people have cast votes/opinions for the Ping Rapture 2 iron. I know they were out in limited release and tough to find, but by far the most versatile 2 iron/driving iron out there. My second vote if the OP can't find a Ping Rapture is the Mizuno MP Fli Hi from 2010 as a few have mentioned here. Excellent club as well and very playable. Titleist T-MB is a nice one too but a little tricky to hit square all the time due to it's blade like profile, but it does go like hell when flushed.

I did forget to mention this one... I have one collecting dust in my garage right now. I've had it for a long time and just haven't gotten rid of it yet! Definitely a bomber and a forgotten one throughout the years!

I've - conservatively - tried a dozen driving irons in the last two years. Nothing has been the plain Epic 3 iron.

Its got just the right amount of heft behind it and the ball absolutely FLIES off the face. Its a perfect club on tighter courses but also on wide open tracks where the ball runs - it runs a mile.

I ordered the p790 3 iron, 1° strong so it will play at 18°. I will use this as my 2 iron/driving iron. I ordered in same dg s300 shaft as my current iron set.

Anyone know how long taylormade custom orders take, it says earliest ship date is 1/29?

I customized a JPX919 hot metal 4 iron and bent it 2 degrees strong (18 degree). For the money $125, it’s about as good as anything out there.
