Do You Have Your Own Locker at Your Club...?

- spare change to pay out losses

Pretty big money games if you are using change.

I don't have a locker as I'm an international member and get set up in an open locker when I'm in town.

You caught that eh !!!!!!

Yep $0.10 per hole skins if I am feeling frisky.

What about dollar bills to tip the staff?

I can get one, but it would be useless. I live across the street from my clubhouse.

Living the life.... must be nice! :golfer:

Being able to get in a putting/chipping session in 30 minutes all in is very nice! No driving across town is always a plus :)

We are a "no tipping" club.

We actually have a quarterly gratuities charged to our accounts.

I think the premise is that once you step onto the club grounds you should never have to reach for your wallet.

I've been going back and forth whether or not I want a locker at my club. I just joined in November, so I'm not sure what it will be like for me once the prime season starts up. I think I'll go ahead and get one just in case. Ours are $150 for the year. I think I'd mainly want it for the summer time when I want to use the pool or gym after playing some golf. I don't keep my clubs at the club, so for the most part I get ready at home and bring what I need that particular day.

When I see comments that lockers aren’t available or there are waiting periods I would ask if the club has removed the cap on memberships. Or are lockers not required of the members? That may explain their unavailability at certain clubs. My club basically has four planned expenses beyond the monthly dues - annual locker fee, annual range fee, quarterly food minimum, and annual Christmas gift fee for club staff. I would think the amenities available should be relative to the amount of members.

We never have had a cap on memberships, lockers are not required, and most members don't play much golf. We also have relatively little membership turnover, so movement of the list is glacial.

The real market failure though is that since the list is so long, a lot of guys who have lockers but never use them won't give them up because it would take forever to get one back if you changed your mind. So we have a big waiting list and also a large number of unused lockers :-(

I haven't even looked at my locker in years until recently. I have a squatter. Not sure who it is. Decided quickly I don't care. Glad someone is enjoying it.

I belong to a semi-private. A while back they redid the clubhouse and got rid of the locker room and even though I didn't use my locker that much I do miss it. Like most I'd stash extra balls, shoes and gear, plus a couple spare putters. If I stored my bag at the club I'd have an extra wedge or two as well for days when I feel like chipping a few without hauling out the bag.

I have no idea if the removal of the locker room has anything to do with a decline in membership but I wouldn't rule it out.

Really they got rid of the locker room totally? Did they have showers? If they didn't have shower facilities I can understand, but if they did that is a big loss IMO.

I have a locker at our club. I don't keep much golf stuff in it, mostly gym and shower gear. I keep my golf stuff in the car all the time just in case a game comes up at another course so I don't have to stop by our club. I like to go early on weekends, have a shower, a steam, breakfast, then hit the range and play. Its not essential but its a nice luxury to have, so why not. I think we pay something like $8 per month for locker so its not that expensive.

I have a locker at my new club. Didn’t have one at my old club.

I guess it is fine having one, but I honestly see little to no value in it. Fortunately it comes with the membership, or otherwise I wouldn’t have it. I wouldn’t pay $5 a month for it...

I have spare clothes, hats, shoes, Advil, etc all in there. But I never use them. I “suit up” before I head to the course and rarely shower afterwards. I do like leaving my shoes at the locker and changing into clean ones so the wife doesn’t complain about mud, grass, etc. I also wouldn’t mind storing my keys, wallet, etc in there while I play but the club has a habit of closing down and locking up a little early sometimes, so I’ve been caught unable to get back to my locker. I could call someone if I needed to, but don’t want to impose (they aren’t supposed to do this but it has happened to me several times).

I’d love it if someone here gave me ideas of better ways to get use out of it. I do like the booze idea!

Edited to add that I work from home, so that makes a locker almost un-necessary. I suppose if I left from work headed to the driving range or for a quick 9 it would be much more useful.

Working from home makes a big difference as you can dress for golf and head out from home.

For that of us that have to go to an office and wear at min. a sports jacket for work, having spare golf clothes to change into is a must especially for an unplanned round after work.

I usually keep at least 3 or 4 clean golf shirts in my locker.

The majority of the time I will have lunch or dinner after a round so a shower after golf is the norm.

I am surprised that the club house is locked up so soon after sunset. Our club house remains open till midnight at a minimum during golf season.

Yep. Makes sense. I only just started working from home, but even when I worked at the office I could be dressed in “golf clothes “ and go play after work, so a locker wasn’t necessary then either. I like having one, but I guess I’m saying I wouldn’t pay much extra for it.

My club only has ~ 250 members, only a handful of staff, and is the kind of place where they will keep it open as long as I want as long as I ask. We don’t have tee times, just go out when ready, etc. In the peak season everything stays open longer. But I think that on slow winter days they like to lock up as soon as possible. I’m certain they thought no one was out on the course on a coldish weeknight in February (I was walking both times, and with no tee times they may not have even known I was out there). My car was in the parking lot, though...that should have been a clue but apparently it wasn’t. They were extremely apologetic when I brought it to their attention, but I was more interested in how they would prevent it from happening next time (so I could stick my keys etc in the locker to keep my pockets light).

It’s a great club...pace of play is amazing, membership is great, course is top notch, and it’s vibe is “ownership of the club by and for the members”. But it’s also a bit of a “no frills” experience...focus is on the course and limited membership for easy access and minimal play, with a nice but not over-the-top clubhouse and grill room / dining, has a few other amenities like a lodge (which I don’t foresee ever using), indoor hitting bay with trackman, etc but otherwise a “minimalist” experience focused very much on the golf.

I have a locker that I pay 20 bucks a month for. Haven’t used it in IDK how long. I’m at the course all the time: playing, practicing going to events and so on... Just haven’t found the need to use it.

I'm about to turn in the key to my locker since I'm moving back to the west coast. I literally haven't even opened it yet.
