Rory talks about the next phase of his career, and it could be sustained excellence but even if sustained by age 40 he'll have to win a couple a year at least to pass Els. I think that's a tough ask for him, all things considered, and he is one I wonder if he may just walk away at some point in his life and be perfectly happy to do so.

I think Rory can get more than 20 wins, still got plenty of time and as said above is probably the best driver since Jack Nicklaus.

 

Let's compare him to Greg Norman - another great driver - just with win percentages:

 

Rory McIlroy (29) 2007-2019 - 15 wins in 156 events (9.62%)

 

Greg Norman (45) 1979-2000 - 20 wins in 298 events (6.71%)

 

Some would say that 5 wins is asking a lot in this era, but I think that is ridiculous. Bryson Dechambeau won 5 in little over a year! And Rory is miles better than "The Scientist". If I had to guess I would project Rory will have 35 wins, somewhere around Vijay's total.

Agreed. I saw him shake a few hands. He's not obligated to shake everyone's hands or touch everyone. Outside of Tiger and Phil, I can't see anyone on Tour being a bigger fan favorite regardless of how many hands he shakes.

Lost a little respect for bones caddying ability today.

He Questioned Rory hitting driver on 16. Who then proceeded to hit it 345 which gave him a short iron into the green.

Bones then questioned the yardage Rory got from his caddie on 17 implying he gave Rory too much club. Rory barley got it to the green and a fair amount of players came up short down the stretch.

 

Rory said in interview he sawed too much off that on 17. It was too much club if he hit a full shot.

 

And he didn’t need driver on 16. It caused him to hit into the rough. He had to hit a better shot to get on than if he’s hit a 3 wood 20 yards back into the fairway.

Just watched the action because I was at the course all day.

 

Really nice seeing Rory in full-grind mode all day and not get too down on himself afte that double on four. That guy finds the center of the face quite often.

His ball was on the fringe on 14. He was walking next to his ball I guess and his putter got tangled up in his shirt and moved the ball a little. Webb got penalized. Wouldn't have gotten penalized had his ball been on the green. Probably wouldn't have moved the ball had he been using a normal length putter too.

That's a funny reference. But given how much Angelo was struggling to advance the ball, his strategy at least made logical sense. Rahm is a 99% fader and was trying to pull a miracle 30 yard hook around trees and across/over water. Completely illogical shot.
