I bought a praying hands hat from Puetz Golf on Friday and it was at my door this morning. It doesn't look like they have them listed anymore. They do have the floral hat that they are calling the 'Masters Cap' right there in the title haha.

I am pretty sure, not positive though, that Imperial has a pimento cheese sandwich logo hat. Wrxers, being of above average intellect, can clearly read between the lines and gets the reference. Average Joe-on-the-Street is likely confused as to why you have a hat with a sandwich on it. If Imperial came out and called it the "Masters Sammich Hat" or "ANGC Pimento Special" they would have likely gotten a cease and desist letter as well. In fact they may have but without "going all the way there" there is nothing substantial to sue them for.

It is Sugarloaf Social Club that has the Pimento Sandwich Hat. And I agree completely. You can't directly use an ANGC Trademark and expect to not have them say something about it - especially when you are as big as Nike.

Yeah, it's actually pretty easy to do a search and see all the phrases and graphics that ANGC has trademarked, and just not use those as it relates to golf. How Nike didn't do that before they started promoting with the "Amen Corner" phrase baffles me honestly. Unless, being Nike, they thought ANGC wouldn't touch them.

The waste management logo is mostly green with yellow, Augusta doesn’t go after them.

 

The hands and “amen corner” could be a problem. But no one really know unless Nike themselves gives a statement. Which I doubt.

Yes they did. It’s called Augusta Green and has a specific Pantone. Pantone 342.

 

If you try to make any money with that color, you’d better have ANGC’s blessing.

 

Nike specifically used “Amen Corner” in their marketing. It seems they likely didn’t get a contract to use that phrase, which is also trademarked. Just like “Super Bowl”, “Final Four” and plenty of others.

As Augster said, the issue (in all likelihood) is the use of the phrase “Amen Corner”. As it relates to golf, ANGC has that trademarked and anyone using it legally has to get permission from ANGC. That’s just about the only thing ANGC has that could have shut this down by Nike. It’s a simple trademark search to see that, and I’m still shocked Nike didn’t do that before marketing.

Oh I agree, and I also agree one of the skateboarders who made the mistake at HQ probably lost his job over this. But I also think the yellow praying hands on the outer display brought attention to the situation as well. If they’d placed the praying/clapping hands logo on the inside of the shoe instead of brandishing it on the outside, there’s probably no reason to even put “Amen Corner” in the description. I still don’t get if that was the design style why the actual PE snake print looks nothing like it. They typically keep the print consistent, even in the PE only models.

Nike pop up shop IN Augusta is still selling a bunch of praying hands gear, so that seems to shoot down the idea that Augusta stepped in and put a stop to anything. Supposedly a statement from Nike is coming "soon" but who knows when that will be. My guess is they will just ignore it all and pretend nothing happened.
