Or did Nike ask AGNC if they were OK with and they said no? Not sure AGNC would have a strong legal case here, but I’m not a lawyer

Wasn’t it a few years back ANGC put a stop to Addidas, Nike etc using the Masters green color and Yellow color in their annual promotions of gear? I’m not sure in his case it was the prayer hands as much as it is the masters yellow accent on the heel

I agree. My first thought was color scheme. Could be wrong of course but that was more recognizable to me than the prayer hands.

That’s the problem with having the group be Golf, SB and Tennis. Many of the people there aren’t golf people, including the marketing VP who came from Jordan. They think the golf world is like basketball and they can dictate the terms.

UPDATE (04/05): According to Jacques Slade, Nike Golf has canceled the "Snake Pack" that was supposed to release for the 2019 Masters. The pack included special colorways of the Air Jordan 11 Low, Air Max 1, and more.

 

An official statement provided by Nike reads, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 'Snake Pack' footwear styles will no longer be available for sale. However, Nike Golf athletes will still wear the 'Snake Pack' next week."

IIRC from school - you have to "defend" your trademarks and copywrites or anyone can use them. If ANGC allowed Nike to do this someone else could suddenly start marketing Amen Corner beer or something like that. Nike absolutely should have know this was coming

Very, very dumb of Nike to put anything about "inspired by Amen corner" in the description without any type of okay from ANGC. Just put "pray for birdies" like many people have called it and avoid the whole headache. You can see how far the golf department has fallen.

Trademark attorneys and infringement lawsuits are expensive for both sides. And if you lose the case you have to pay back any money you made selling the item plus damages.

 

Since this is such a niche product for Nike anyways, they probably didn't feel it was worth the hassle and risk.

I don't necessarily get it...I don't ever recall ANGC using the folded hands for anything involving Amen Corner before. They did the hands a few year back (I still have the tshirt, putter cover and golf balls) and there was never anything said...granted they were black/white or black/volt. This keeps up with ANGC I wouldn't be surprised if they go after people for making shirts, coins or whatever with the pimento cheese sandwich and pricing on it. And the colors...they are also Green Bay Packers colors. It's not like they are using the Masters Logo or the Masters letter font. But, oh well. It is what it is.

Not necessarily, to the getting destroyed. The designers will get 2 or 3 and they will hand them out to VIP’s and sponsored athletes, not just golf. You will see a bunch of these in circulation eventually. Employees will take 1 here and there and that adds up. A few will end up on the bay and most others will end up as displays on cubicle corners over time.

As cvhookem63 said, it's probably not the actual graphic of "praying hands" that has anything to do with this. It's the wording cvhookem quoted above... "Praying hands on the front patch are inspired by the famous "Amen Corner" at the course in Georgia". I haven't seen any marketing for these caps myself, as I'm not a big Nike fan, but if they did in fact say "inspired by the famous Amen Corner" and "at the course in Georgia', then yes, I can easily see Augusta National shutting this down.

I think in the description of the hat on the NDC page for the hat it specifically said ‘Amen Corner’ which is probably what caught ANGC’s attention. A lot of the other items just vaguely referenced ‘the course in Georgia’ or something like that.
