Pro Only Grip is great. Feels good in the hands but it is a little heavy at 94g. I have it on my Toulon Austin but opted to not put one in the TM Spider I have now. If you’re looking for lighter I’d try one of the Winn grips that aren’t too large and come stock on the new Odyssey/Toulon clubs. Feel really good in the hands and last I recall they are 75ish grams 

Thanks, good to know. I'm trying to lighten up the grip end, however, i think it might be the stability shaft which is the problem. San Diego feels nicely weighted in regular shaft, however, my Latrobe with 50g weight in stability shaft feels very light headed. 

I'm mostly looking for thinner, Iomic also caught my eye, i've currntly got the chunkier flat ones on right now.

Well its been a while and I have been busy with my bag. Finally going to be getting out and playing this weekend for the first time in 2022. The whole bag is updated and what I presume to be not changing for the foreseeable future as the wife found my golf box stash. 

 

Driver: Cobra Radspeed XB 9* @ 8*. Peacoat Finish. Measures at 44.5". Tensei Pro White 1k 60-S. Shaft may change depending on how this weekend goes as I have a HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX I may try. 

 

 

Fairway Wood: Srixon ZX 3W 15*. Tensei Pro White 1k 70-S. 

 

Hybrid: Srixon ZX 4 Hybrid 22*. HZRDUS Smoke Black 80-S. 

 

 

Irons: Srixon ZX5 5 & 6 Iron. Srixon ZX7 7-PW. Modus 120 Stiff shafts. 1/2" over and 1* upright. 

 

Wedges: Cleveland RTX Zipcore Black Satin. 

- 52* MID 10 bent to 51*. 1/2" over and 2* upright. Modus 125 Wedge Shaft

- 56* MID 10. 1/2" over and 2* upright. Modus 125 Wedge Shaft

- 60 LOW 8 bent to 61*. 1/2" over and 2* upright. Modus 125 Wedge Shaft

 

 

Putter: TaylorMade Spider X Hydro Blast Single Bend. 35". Went into a fitting looking for a toe hang mallet and software and fitter said I should be playing face balanced. Added (2) 6g TaylorMade weights to the head for feel. 

 

 

Ball: Srixon Z Star Diamond. Best ball I have tested EVER. 

 

 

Bag: Ogio RTC Stand bag. Shes a big girl for a stand bag but she does the job. I ride mostly but like having the stands for the range etc.

I dig the choice of irons and wedges. Nearly an all Srixon/Cleveland bag!

So the golf ball I kind of stumbled upon. I’m a high spin player with my driver and fairway but need spin in the long irons and wedges. I tried several balls and the srixon gives me great spin around the green, excellent off the tee. It’s a great overall ball. 
 

ya almost all the way Srixon/Cleveland! Thought about adding a HB 11 single bend putter but couldn’t beat out the spider x. Also the ZX5 driver is solid but the sound really turned me off

First round with the new setup today. 
 

Driver: Hit it pretty well. Front nine used the Tensei 1k and back nine used the HZRDS RDX Blue. My swing is rusty so couldn’t notice much at the time. I have a LTDx driver head at home and going to try that tomorrow with both shafts. 
 

3W: hit it really well! Had about 270 into a par 5 today and almost got it to the green. Never have I hit a 3W that far and it is surprisingly easy to hit. 
 

4hy: got me out of trouble several times and the balance of the club is great. Definitely a keeper 

 

Irons: probably the best irons I’ve ever hit. So soft feeling and I was worried about the V-Sole but had no issues on baked fairways in SoCal today. Good amount of stopping power with the ZX7 in the short clubs hitting into greens and perfect mid flight with the Modus 120 shafts. 
 

Wedges: this is the worst part of my game and the reason why I’m a mid capper. These ZipCore wedges are the real deal. Idk if it’s the heads or the modus 125 wedge shaft but I never have enough spin and they had the perfect amount. 
 

Putter: going from the Same TM putter with a flow neck to a single bend face balanced I was worried about but it played really well today. Sunk a few 10+ footers 

 

Ball: best ball on course I’ve played. Having only tested indoors previously was really happy to see the ball respond the same on the course

Well bag is already changed....whats new. Went and did a fit with a buddy on a whim for driver. I have never done one with a full lineup of shafts so I would always wing it with shafts based on what I see on the course. I always assumed my high ball flight was due to high spin when in actuality its the opposite. I actually need more spin with my driver due to hitting 7* up on it. 

 

Fitter had me try the Speeder NX, TZ5 and Tour AD UB. All 60g Stiff except for the UB which was 60g X-Stiff. 

 

Got the best numbers with the UB 60g X-Stiff shockingly. No left miss at all and accuracy was solid even with my 100 mph Driver SS. Fitter explained to me that the Tour AD shafts play a little softer to flex so the X fit me perfect. I am going back to him on Saturday to button up my Fairway and hybrid to see what he thinks of those setups and I want to see what other shafts do for the heads. 

 

Moral of the story....dont start a WITB thinking youre set for the year, etc. Never going to happen

Love it after finally getting a real fit and not just picking up low/low shafts off the shelf because I thought they suited my swing it is a real game changer. Love the feel of it and takes a slow swing and an aggressive swing all together

How’s the gapping from 5i to 7w? I was toying with the idea of adding a Cobra 7w between my 16.5-17 wood and ZX Utility 4.

It’s about a 15-20 yd gap! But for my setup it hits the perfect window! You should give it a try!

Love the spaced out gapping at the top of the bag.  I'm a big proponent of it and getting more wedges in the bag.  I'm doing D then 3w and then playing between a 5w/3h/4i (power spec G425) to hit that 225/230 in the air shot.  The powerspec G425 should be here next week and I'm going to probably try some hybrid/DI shafts in it to get something that works because I just need that 220-230 shot into possibly 2 par 5's and 1-2 par 3's at my home course (plus a smattering of other tee shots in the summer when its running hot).

For the price I don’t think you can beat them. Especially the Anser with naked sight line, graphite shaft, etc

how does the 5W/3H compare? I would assume a bit higher launch and spin. Maybe keep the 5i to get out of tree trouble or low shots for windy days?

The 5w is kind of a wild card, for me its near unplayable off a tee into one of the 2 possible par 3's I play, but its also taylor made for 2 of the par 5's I could hit it into.  The 3h is another beast, I want to like them and find a place for them, but hybrids do not like me.  I played a G410 Crossover 20* almost all of last year, but lost the 225-230 shot off the deck into the par 5's, so I'm hoping the extra launch from the 4i G425 will fit the bill.  

 

And in general you're correct, the 5w is higher launch higher spin, the 3h is lower/lower.  One made for off the tee, one made for off the deck.  Hopefully that G425 4i gives me the best of both worlds

Sounds like a solid plan. 5W are tricky, if you have or want to try the G series from ping I’ve always found the 5W lofted you 4W is a great option as well

Well with a new year comes some new gear. Some favorites that haven’t changed and some newbies. 
 

Driver: Callaway Rogue ST TD LS 9* with Tour AD UB 6-X. Great combo for keeping the lefts out of play. I’m not sold on the sound but the performance, forgiveness and spin characteristics really make this driver shine. I’m a big fan of the UB shaft even though I’m a bit of a MCA ho. 
(Specs: Std lie, length, -1* loft sleeve) 

 

3HL: Callaway Rogue ST LS 16.5* with Diamana TB 60-X. This is my favorite club in the bag. Really long but has more loft than a 3W. Excellent sound and feel and is great from the rough or off the tee. I don’t I’ll ever get rid of it. TB shaft is an excellent FW shaft

(Specs: Std lie, length, loft. Shaft tipped 1/2”) 

 

7W: PING G425 20.5* with Diamana GT 70x. Much better option for me than a hybrid or long iron. Sound isn’t the best but performs well. Doesn’t balloon on me and can stop the ball on a green. Excellent out of the fairway and rough and occasional bunker. GT shaft is new to me but so far love it with this head. Has great feel whether I crank it or swing lazy with a mid flight window. 
(Specs: Std loft/lie, 1/2” short, shaft tipped 1”. 14g weight added)

 

Irons: Srixon ZX5/ZX7 combo with Modus3 120 stiff shafts. ZX5 in the 5 and 6 iron and ZX7 7-PW. These just feel like butter and are forgiving enough for my game especially in the long irons. Love the little offset to them and look behind the ball. Good flight with the modus 120 shafts and plenty of spin in the short clubs. 
(Specs: 1/2” over, 1* upright) 

 

Wedges: Cleveland ZipCore Black Satin 52/56/60 with Modus3 125 wedge shafts. They don’t have the pop of some other wedges I’ve played but are consistent in terms of spin and reliability so no need to change until the grooves wear out. Modus 125 wedge shafts have good feel and the weight is perfect for 1/2, 3/4 or full swings. 
(Specs: 52; bent to 51 Mid grind, 2* up and 1/2” over. 56 Mid Grind, 2* up and 1/2” over. 60; bent to 61 Low grind, 2* up and 1/2” over)

 

Putter: Toulon Daytona Beach Double Bend. I’ve had some putting woes lately and some time ago was fit into a FB mallet single bend. I don’t like the look of the SB so thought I would give this one a try. Made a successful trade here and love it. Forgiveness, feel and roll on the ball are superb. I know some don’t like the look of this putter but I like it a lot. Using my Blast Motion putting sensor shows my face closure at impact, tempo, length of stroke and open states on backswing match this putter well. 
(Specs: Std everything at 35”) 

 

Ball: Srixon Z Star Diamond. I go back and forth between this and the Callaway Chrome Soft X but seem to get the perfect amount of spin with the Diamond over the CSX on chips and pitches. The ball would almost bite too much on the greens with the CSX. The Diamond also feels great off the putter. Ball flight is excellent with driver and about 2-3yds further than the CSX 

 

Grips: 

- Driver through Wedges: Golf Pride MCC +4 Midsize Grey 

- Putter: SuperStroke Traxion Flatso 2.0

 

Bag: Ogio RTC Stand bag (oldie but a goodie)

Headcovers: Rose&Fire Ballistic Nylon 

Glove: FootJoy Contour FLX (best glove I’ve found in a while)
