what wedges are most people playing these days?

Dont play a 5 wood or a 4 iron. So I have 2 hybrids and 4 wedges. Not very accurate from 200 and out so I'd rather have more options down low in the bag.

Have done 50/54/58 in the past and just find carrying the extra wedge causes me more issues ! Means i can carry more in the top end and i can look past the shanked 2iron cos i mean who hits them pure all the time but its cool to have in the bag right ?!

45 and 50 G30 wedges that match my iron set, a 54 that I use 50 yards and in and a Ping Eye2 XG sand wedge that I use only for the bunkers as I dont care for the feel when chipping. Odd set up but works for me.

Anyway, back to "what the pros carry for wedges..." A minitour pro practices out of our golf club, and we discussed wedge mix one day. This is what he sees on the minitour: Big hitters tended to carry four wedges, because they wanted more options inside 150 since they hit the ball so far. Medium hitters tended to carry three wedges, because they wanted an extra club in the 200- to 220-yard range.

I just made the switch from Miura Black Forged wedges (50/54/58) to TM Hi Toe in 54/58 with TM MG 54/58 as backups.

 

The Hi Toe is insanely great out of bunkers, and my 58 is the go-to for anything inside of 80 yards in any condition. It's THAT versatile

Being my PW is 49, I’m going to put these back in the bag after some tinkering this week. OG TW VR’s. I only play weekly scat games so it doesn’t matter. I’ve got the matching 52 to boot. These in play are 56/60 with 10 degrees bounce.

Do you find the gaps too wide? My course I need the long irons, and the layups are perfect for that 46, it's a sniper rifle.

His rule of thumb: A big hitter **carries** his tee shot 270 yards or more. No details on rollout.

I actually bent my 52* to 51* & my 58* to 56* to give me a 5* gap, also, the 51* Gap gave me EXACTLY 100 yrs. And you are right, that 46 TRP is a surgeon tool!

I’ve played 47, 52, 55 for the last 15 years or so. I could honestly probably drop the 52 as I usually grab for the 55 and open or close the face if needed.
