Is Golf Fun or Work, do you disagree on punch being necessary? And why? I agree it sucks, but without it you're putting on dead grass the remainder of the year. Bermuda only grows a few months, then you are hanging on for dear life hoping it stays playable until it wakes up again.

I think aeration is necessary as well as verti-cut.  How it's done makes the difference.  It's annoying the first week or two after but makes for nicer greens the majority of the time.

Simply not true, A aggressive 3/8"-3/4" aerification is not necessary and plenty of agronomy programs including ours have not seen adverse effects of skipping the huge aerification. What is necessary is often light verticuts with frequent topdressing and then a very aggressive verticut backtracked multiple directions during a closure period. The whole point of a aerification is to remove organic matter and remove thatch no? A 2x2 spaced plug is only removing 40% +/-  of OM/thatch from the surface area of the putting surface where as a verticut that is tightly spaced is removing much more.

I agree that bent is my particular favorite variety to play on but I was raised on bent greens up north, we can provide better playing surfaces for more months on our ultra dwarf greens but our budget allows and we follow the correct cultural practices. Bermuda greens get a bad rep because they aren't managed correctly (I play a ton of public golf in the area) and its embarrassing to see some places that aren't allowing the agronomy program the tools they need for surface management. Its bermuda grass, not rocket science.

I would argue that the whole point of aerification is to allow a deep channel for roots to grow, and open up a space for new healthy plants to grow in. Not really concerned about about organic matter removal as much.

Grapevine is back to the way it should be. Considering the amount of play they really do it right.

Rangers was punched 3 week ago and they were awful today. Course is burnt out in spots as well. And the ridiculous CPO for 6 holes makes zero sense when it’s dried out like that. If i had to pay the rack rate today I would be pretty upset.

Been a minute since i posted some recent conditions:

Waterchase-great as always

Frisco Lakes-Getting better but the range is under construction and if you are  PLP member golf has been free so i have been out there a bunch of late.

Northwood-Got lucky to play it last week and SO nice

Keeton Park-Overall very nice and under $45 to play in the weekend with a cart.  Greens are a little slow but fun track and we played in 3:15 last Sunday morning.

Pecan Hollow-Greens are great but get out early or it will be a long round.

The Tribute-Great and the afternoon we played no one was out there for some reason.

I go pretty often since my brother works there and the entire place is unreal.

For the 2nd straight year it was voted as the best country club in North Texas (Social and Tennis where both ranked #1 in DFW,  the golf course was ranked in the top 5 and the PGA of america ranked the fitness program as one of the top 12 best in the entire US).

He told me the last staff meeting he attened the CFO mentioned that by 2023 they expect the waitlist to join to be around 15 years 😲

Old American is a great one. So darn expensive though! Shoutout to local Justin Leonard for the design.

I'm a member out at OA and it's rounding into phenomenal shape right now, second punch is almost completely healed and the fairways are like carpet now, been stunning to play the last few weeks.

Making the trip to Pebble Beach with my family this weekend. Been fortunate that we are able to go and afford such an amazing trip.

it’s our favorite place to travel and will report back on the golf. It’s a tough job but I think I can handle it!

That's so awesome, I hope you have an incredible trip! I'm looking forward to hearing about it and seeing the pictures. Go low!

Spyglass Hill:

what an incredible golf course. Just a shotmakers delight. I played the golds (6400) and hit 8 greens. 3 birdies. No doubles. Shot 77. Every par 4 from 6 on except 10 and 17 are uphill. And if you include hole 2 (short but still uphill..) 7 of the 10 par 4s are uphill. Some are monsters. (6, 8, 9, 13, 16) I only hit hole 6 in reg.

Greens were perfect. Fairways had been verticut so they actually had some roll out. Bunkers perfect. Almost aced 12

my favorite course of all time. 12/10. Quit worrying about the cost…you can’t take your $$$ with you when you perish

pasatiempo tomorrow.

Spoiler

 Pasatiempo!

Pasatiempo….holeeefook. From a design standpoint(architecture and angles and aesthetics) truly remarkable. If you are coming to the peninsula to play golf you’re an idiot if you don’t play this track.

12/10. Again. Right below spyglass in my opinion. But like 1 and 1a

it played way way longer than the yardage. Putts toward the ocean races even uphill. 1,2, 10, 11, 16 just mammoth par 4 gems.

3 par 5s and 5 par 3s. Don’t be afraid to move up to the white tees. The holes with the wind are all generally uphill. The holes towards the ocean are generally downhill but into the wind.

So many shelves, fronts, and angles on the greens. Each one a work of art. Just masterful. Each one like a different painting.

The bunkering was breathtaking and I played ok. 6 GIR. 2 doubles. 81

First time out at Old American today, don't think I'd pay the morning rate but at twilight it's a good deal. I can only imagine how nice it looks in the spring and fall when it isn't dried up, it's a beautiful piece of land. That being said it's in good shape now, just imagining how nice it can be.

Tough and long course, I'm playing off a 7 now and even the two up tees (blue I think) were at 6700 and I was more than happy with my 81. Will definitely go back out there.

Finally Pebble Beach

this grand dame lives up to her billing. From 4-10 not a greater stretch of holes anywhere. The only bummer was 8 was a temp green. Did shorten it somewhat.

greens were perfect. Once ur on the tiny putting surfaces you feel you can make them anywhere. I struggled today as I think I’m gassed. Only 4 GIR but 2 birdies and many par saves. 83. It never gets old with the scenery. Never. The history is palpable from every shot you take. Worth every penny to play. Solid 10/10.

I ran the trial by it last weekend and it does look in great shape.  I am planning on next Tuesday to play it again as it has been a while.

I definitely recognize the 16th hole in that first picture.  I came to the thread to see about courses that I played back when I came out to Texas for about 18 months to work back in '01-02 and stumbled upon pictures of Pasatiempo.  I last played there at least 25 years ago and got rained on for most of the back-9 and I still loved just about every minute of it, particularly when I par'd 16.  Haha.

I was in Haltom City when I was out there.  I remembered playing at Fossil Creek and Iron Horse about a dozen times.  I know I played at least one other course but for the life of me, I can't remember the name and that's even after using Google and Google Maps.  Hah.
