Anyone consider dumping hybrids from their bag and just playing irons and woods?

I took my 19* hybrid out of the bag and put a 20* 3 iron in. Getting more distance is not my priority at this time and I feel more confident looking at the 3 iron. I carry Driver, 3 wood, 3-pw, 50/54/58, and putter.

19° or 21° hybrid has a better trajectory than a 5 or 7 wood. But I am a high ball hitter and usually have a 3 iron in the bag anyway.

I just took out my 915h 21* and dropped the MP-H4 3i (20*) I have in the bag. I can hit hybrids good for a very short span, never consistently and so far the H4 has not given me trouble. Even if I miss it, it flies straight.. with the 915h this was not the case. This is a troublesome spot in the bag for me so I am playing for what doesn't hurt me as bad. I keep trying to love hybrids...

I am 100 percent on board with this. I am going 3-P plus 50,54,58, then driver and 3 wood. What I have done is switched to the more game improvement version for the 3 iron (585 vs 785, HMB vs MB, etc). Dont find the distance differences to be that much vs a hybrid, but I am in the fairway way more often! Much prefer this set up.

I seem to buy a hybrid every 3-4 years, but it never stays in the bag very long.

 

 

My miss is usually short with the 3 iron and that's 100% better than OB left with the hybrid.

I should probably ditch both for another wedge.

I used hybrids for a while in my 30 year quest for a 220 yard club...but with middling success. None in my bag right now, as a Ping 3 crossover is filling that role reasonably well.

I have an Adams that I found in the discount bin. It is adjustable. It's great out of the rough, not only fairway rough but for putting out of the rough around the greens. And it can go very long when needed for controlled tee shots.

Just did a top of the bag gapping session and for the third time, I tried to love a hybrid with a fitter. Just not comfortable with it at all. Learned what I have been seeing on the course, the ball flight is what I need with a long iron. Walked away with a u500 2i and 4i. Fell in love with them immediately. Tomorrow I’m going back in to retro-fit driver and 3 wood and confirm shaft for 2i.

No hybrids in my bag. Not that I have not tried a multitude of hybrids. I just don’t get a long with them. Driver, 4w, 7w, 9w, 5i-GW,SW, LW, Putter.

4w is 16*

7w is 20*

9w is 24*

Play what works for your swing and not what someone else tells you to play or what “everyone else plays”.

I have finally given up on hybrids.....I've gone through too many and am now going to experiment with a Driving Iron and a 7 wood to see which one works best.

I dropped my hybrid a year ago in favor of a Srixon U65 18 degree. Don't miss the hybrid at all.

I replaced my hybrid with a 5 wood last year and switched to a P790 UDI 2 iron last March. First thing I noticed my misses would go everywhere with a hybrid but fairly straight with a wood or iron.

I've struggled with hybrids for years. Meanwhile I have always hit fairway woods well, so I finally dumped the hybrids in favor of FW's. I play the hi-launch TM's, 3HL, 5HL and 7HL. Irons start with a 5.
