I’m aware of the score needed to win States. 280 (140 for 9 hole matches) is our goal score for matches and tournaments. That is the score we use to establish our team handicap which we set as a team at the beginning of the season. It is completely doable at El Campeon by any good team, but not likely given the pressure of tournament play.

My Goal number for States is 295. Either way, we have to get there first.

Has your team shot 280 in an invitational this year ?

Lowest has been 286 for eighteen and 132 for nine holes.

Again, it serves as a handicap. The number we established as our goal moving forward. The team is more than capable of reaching the number and going below it.

Best of luck to you guys, Grumpy!> @Willian70 said:

Our jersey's are mismatched and basically we have girls wearing hats/visors in different colors than our school colors. We have plenty of money between the school and boosters to get somethings done. It has not been a priority for the old regime to make sure the girls were set up for success. We can easily solve a lot of issues with matching jersey/uniform polo and bags for everyone.

BAGS

Get bags with the removable front pocket so you can get them embroidered locally.

We hand down our varsity bags to the JV when showing signs of wear. Buy new when necessary.

TOWELS

We prefer the Club Glove Microfiber Towels, available in many colors. Again, these can be embroidered locally. Wet half and throw the middle slot over your alignment sticks.

BALLS

Kids buy their own favorite.

SHIRTS

We let the seniors pick out shirts and we embroider them locally.

Good luck!

Made States, likely have 2 who can win the individual title. Team is going to be interesting as I think we are a year away from meeting our goals, but we have led every big tournament we have been in at some point, but need to teach some of them what it means to grind.

One thing is for sure, FHSAA and Mission Inn have no idea what they’re doing running the tournament. Good lord they’re unorganized.

I think most state HS athletic associations have no idea how to run a golf tournament. Pennsylvania does not do a great job at all.

We never take over the whole course on a normal tournament/invitational, but given how much they charge for most HS Tournaments (and they still screw us letting others play slowing us majorly up and turning our tournaments into 7 hour rounds) there is no reason 8 teams couldn’t play 6 and count 5. We still wouldn’t take the whole course on a standard 8-team tournament.

If you want to grow the game you want more kids playing. It’s not just about improving in your own squad, but you learn from seeing many different players and their processes. Then they can experiment and find what works for them and hopefully develop their games even farther.

I have two kids that need the match time (they are my 6 and 7). They have the skills to be a number 1, but they need the matches to learn how to play how they are capable under pressure. It’s very hard at the end of the season when I can’t get them meaningful matches and need to focus on this year when I want to have an eye towards the next as well.

Yeah. Seems weird to play 6 count 4 in regular season then play 5 count 4 post season.

It does put more pressure on your players as you don’t get two throwaway scores.

First thing is to separate the boys and girls state championship and play them at different venues. At the team championship last week, there were 29 groups in a 9:00 shotgun. The last groups finished around 3:00. The second thing is to have districts, regionals and states at better courses. Playing at courses in poor condition (like bunkers with no sand) is unacceptable. Some other minor issues would be reevaluating the yardage difference between boys and girls when girls are playing on boys teams. I also think the home scnool/cyber school issue needs to be addressed in all individual sports.

The FSGA actually runs the tournament itself as far as rulings, etc.. The FHSSA does the administration of the event and doesn't do a good job. I would really like to see who sits on the committee for Golf for the FHSAA. I think the changes they made this year to get the best teams into the tournament worked well. I still think that other changes need to be made to make the regular season better. I really wished the season lasted another two weeks. I think they try to cram too much into 9 weeks. I wish they would limit regular season to 9 or 18 hole events only. No reason to have 36 hole high school events. In the grand scheme of things, they are meaningless because they aren't JGS ranked.

? Ok...not such a bad suggestion, not sure why they would think having everyone on one day is best, unless it has to do w staffing.

?here in wpial they play up thru some pretty nice tracks Allegheny cc, Fox chapel...to cedar brook public and off to Chestnut Ridge resort so it must be an issue within YOUR region....i don’t know heritage hills....i wonder why they don’t go to state college and do it there, central location, several courses to choose from, accommodation choices, a chance to show all the players psu.

~~~~Some other minor issues would be reevaluating the yardage difference between boys and girls when girls are playing on boys teams.
?Not sure how this can ever be made “fair”...it just is.
I also think the home scnool/cyber school issue needs to be addressed in all individual sports.
? The best will be awarded the cup....play your best ....you can always let your kid cyber school if you feel it provides some sort of advantage.
Glad to hear that your end of the state is utilizing quality facilities. Both District 1 and 12 played their championships at a course that does not even have a range. Teams had to go to separate properties prior to playing. Were you at Heritage HIlls? Maybe 15 range stalls for a 29 group shotgun and a practice green that is the size of my rec room. Hershey CC seems like a no brainer since the state junior is also played there.
It is a school championship, I think all the kids in it should actually attend a school...but that's just my opinion.
In your regular season matches, how many kids play and how many scores count? It varies by league here. We play 8 count 6 but some other leagues play 8 count 5.
Yeah, we gave up and just walked to each green, mapped what we needed and moved on.
Didn’t help that they confirmed the wrong practice round time, so I was slightly miffed about that, but that’s par for the course with Mission Inn. I love the course, but the people running and working the course are incompetent.
Yep. You pay $25.00 for the season pass which is actually really cool. Then they charge for every district tournament, regional tournament, and state tournament separately. It is a huge joke.
Someone just needs to screen cap the scores and post them if that's the case.
