I'm well aware of how milling changes sound and feel. But Artisan posts the same milling as above on all their putters, I know they offer others but don't know if they look different or if they do the same style or at different depths. Or if someone asks for light milling they just do a simple fly milling.

Their website covers every other little options expect face milling, I know a lot of guys the look of the milling even plays into their decision that's why I asked.

My apologies  I misunderstood your original question.  I'm honestly not sure if they offer other styles of milling. Never crossed my mind to ask. They're customer service was outstanding.  Shoot them a message on Instagram and you will get an answer usually within hours.

Thanks, I do like that mill pattern but know how soft I can be. Would be interesting to see the firm milling of it.

Can't believe I missed this thread.  The putter shown by the OP in the first post is mine.  As has been mentioned many times, John is great to work with.  If you can get to Ft. Worth for a personal fitting, it's even better.  I got my putter back in April 2018 and it's been my main gamer since.  I went back for a set of wedges last year and got a lighter set of putter weights from John at the same time.

Mine has the light milling as I like a little more feedback.  Don't know how well the milling depth shows up, but here's a picture of the face.

Very nice and that light milling looks really nice, definitely better than the deep milling they posted on their site.

I was fitted by John a week ago. As to the milling, after watching me, he handed me the Mid-Milling, and the feedback/sound was great as well as the tight roll on the ball. Then he handed me the Lighter Milled face and I had trouble controlling distance - was sending it several feet past the hole. He handed me the Mid-Milled again and all was good. It was responsive with good sound while giving me the distance control I need.

Moral of the story: Try the various millings and see how they affect you.

Amazing what milling and feel can do for some.

Now question since you were there. I assume John grabs a head similar to what he fit you in just different face milling? Just to worry about pace and not aim in that case?

Yes, yes he did.

I am a face-aimer (John's words), which is true. I use Aimpoint or my best target estimate (green slope is sometimes challenging for my feet)  to get the break and then approach the ball with an open stance (before squaring up at address), using my eyes to aim the face going from target to face and then use my eyes to go from face to target to check aim and adjust. As long as I don't use a putter that distracts me from face aiming (using the front of the putter to aim). John said he can make any head shape swing the same. I assume that meant milling, offset, toe hang, head weight, shaft, length, lie, grip, counterweight, etc.

Edel has also fit me so I know in general what shape/offset helps aim. I also have a laser at home for aiming. I usually go for a compact mallet without any lines as I don't like distractions. I did not tell John any of that while we were on the green. John quickly knew what toe hang I needed as well as head weight. I play a 35 inch length due to a more upright stance to save my back, did not need much toe hang (around 15%) and my current putters were too heavy (350-365g). He had me in a 340g head and it felt so much better and improved my tempo immensely. His milling also puts a tight roll on the ball. I did not have to play as much break as the ball  held the line tightly. As they say, it was an awesome experience. Learned a lot. Highly recommended.

I have always loved these putters. They are a great follow on social media aswell, but when i inquired a little while ago about pricing, I found their work to be on the high side IMO.  I'm guessing the prices have increased since then aswell.  Many other builders offering starting prices in the 6-700 price point. If you have the cash it seems like a no brainer...

I guess it is all in what you want/expect and what you are willing to pay.  A transaction with Artisan builds a relationship with the company that never ends.

I know that I can go see John any time I have an issue with my putter and that issue will get handled as quickly as possible.  I was at the shop last week getting my wedges blasted and talked a little shop with John on my putter and stroke.  We looked at the grip to make sure it was aligned and then went thru "John's basics" and found the issue in my awful putting stroke causing a consistent left miss.  All that for free because I am a Artisan customer.

May not be worth that cash to those that can't get to Fort Worth on a whim.  To me, what I paid for my putter (and wedges) was some of the best money I have spent on golf.

Very good point...but for 99% of the people buying from a distance, you around paying big bucks for a putter based on preference. Everyone is allowed to do that...absolutely.  I understand they are nice putters, but the difference in price cant be justified in build or performance imo. That's all I'm saying.

I would argue the price includes the comprehensive fitting and if you are just buying from afar you aren't really getting full value of what they are selling.

It's obviously not for everyone, but to me it was well worth it. I haven't seriously considered changing putters in over 3 years and have much more confidence in my stroke, plus the putter looks amazing and gets questions/compliments every where I go. I've also had 3 friends now make a trip to Ft Worth after seeing my putter and talking to me about it (and they got wedges too bc they are righties. Damn them).

100% agree. I will give them credit for a nice product and a proper fitting experience. I guess what I'm saying is I don't see the value in $1000 anser style putter when one can be had custom for 5, 6, 700. That's all.  I do agree that what they put out is great quality, but i bet they would find more buyers In the $600-700 range.   There are a dozen companies that will customize nearly every aspect of a putter for that price.

Regardless, enough poo pooing Artisan putters in the artisan thread. Enjoy them, they are awesome.

Screw/pin to secure the neck, looks like they're 2 piece heads.

Now I wonder if you can get the neck changed out? Not like Kevin Burns style but say buy one used and wish it had a different neck.

I picked up an Artisan putter second hand. I wanted to try it out before I go all in for a fitting and upgraded options. I wanted to get a headcover from them for the putter in the time being. Is it frowned upon by them to want to purchase accessories if you weren’t the original owner. Any Artisan owners have any ideas? Thanks I’m advance.

The putter that John builds to fit you is going to putt infinitely better than a second hand putter that doesn't fit correctly.  Enjoy the trial run, but I can tell you there is nothing like putting with a putter that fits YOU.

And I'm sure they'd sell you a putter cover if you reached out.  Business is business.
