5W or 3hybrid?

I got new hybrids last year and now my 4 hybrid is only 5 yards shorter than my old 5 wood.

Any thoughts on 18* hybrid or 5w for my new club.

I replaced my 5W with an 18° 2 hybrid because the 5W was terrible into the wind.

I have trouble getting the ball in the air. 5W for me. Demo both OP and see which gives you the flight and distance you want/need!?

I dropped the 5w at the end of last season and replaced it with a 18* 3h. I find it to be more versatile and easier to hit off the fairway.

I have always played a 18/19* hybrid but over the last few years I have switched to a 5W. Has a bit more versatility for me than a hybrid. I play 3W/5W/3UDI in terms of my gaps

I dropped the 5w last year and replaced it with a 3h, no regrets for me good distance and a lot more versatility.

I play a 19* hybrid because any fairway wood off the deck is intimidating to me (although I've gotten pretty comfortable with my 4 wood at 17*).

I've just never really played a 5 wood. Back in my "playing days" it was driver, 3w, 2i at the top of the bag. It surprises me that so many tour pros play 5 woods.

Hit both? Loft for loft 5w likely to be a bit longer, fly higher and spin more.

I have a 3 hybrid. Much easier for me off the turf and does not balloon like the 5W for me. Flies high enough to hold the green for me on a well struck shot.

I think fairway woods and hybrids are dependent upon what you expect out of accuracy ftom that distance. What do you use the fairway woods for primarily? I found that I rarely needed my 5 wood off the tee and opted for a 2 hybrid instead. The courses I usually played don't require that distance on par 5s to reach in 2, so I looked at the top end of my bag in terms of longer carry requirement. I retooled and dropped my 712u 3 iron and 5 wood for a 2 and 4 hybrid. My shed now has a couple of 5woods, a 3utility iron, and an mb 4 iron that likely wont see the light of day unless the courses I start playing require different distances. I have never played hybrids for the better part of a decade playing, so to me the yard sale looking top end of my bag looks like a headcover party but it works for me!

I prefer a 5w to a 3h. I find woods to be longer, more forgiving and easier to hit. Theyre longer because the shaft is longer and theure more forgiving and easier to hit because of the MOI of the head. I tried various hybrids and never really got on with any of them.

When I am having a good day I can hit either and everything is roses. When I'm having a bad day I'm reminded why I carry a 5 wood.

Dropped the 5W for the hybrid a few months ago. The 5W was a little longer, but the ball flight was problematic in all but perfect conditions. I found it easier to get what I wanted out of the hybrid instead of going through a bunch of shafts to get the ball flight I was looking for from the 5W. My dispersion is markedly better with the hybrid.

For me, I was happy to give up a few yards to get better dispersion and the ball flight I wanted.

This is my experience. My misses with a hybrid are much worse than a 5W.

I always have a 3hy (20 degrees) in the bag. I go back and forth between having a 5-wood in the bag also along with a 3W or adjusting the 3W to 16 degrees and dropping 5W for additional wedge

w/ 5 wood I use a 52/58 setup

w/o 5 wood I use a 50/54/58 setup.

 

ive heard some call an 18 degree hybrid a 3. To me that’s a 2 hybrid no matter what they stamp on it. Comparing an 18 degree hybrid vs 5 wood is likely going to depend on what you want the club for. I couldn’t properly elevate a 2hy (18 degrees) into the air to hold greens but I would love the bullets off the tee as it would play like a driving/utility iron for me if I gamed one.

5 wood will likely spin more and be easier to work curve into the ball. It’s going to launch a lot higher so again I wouldn’t think distance but what type of shots do you envision hitting with it?
