So earlier and more vertical hinge to P3. I’ve been trying to get there but it won’t happen with speed, need to do more slow speed work. Is the weight issue a reaction to the club going up or do you think that could help resolve the hip action? To me the hips are noticeably better when I pause.

Everything is better in the pause swing. Hips, plane, connection. Still need more hinge and up though.

I'll keep working the pause and focus on that checkpoint. Appreciate the input.

I've really been working on keeping the arms inside my chest in the backswing which has been plaguing me since I began playing (IE swinging with the arms). Finally feel like I'm making progress now and have mainly been working on NTC and the trail foot slapshot movement from Broomforce. My 8 iron ball speed has gone up from 115 to 123 at the top end, where 115 before was full effort and can now be achieved with what feels like 60-70%. My personal feeling for hand path on the downswing is firing them towards my right pocket while keeping the chest closed. How is it looking?

You’re lagging the club in the takeaway which is causing you some issues with sync. As you can see, you’re flat and deep at P3. I bang on about this because if you get it neutral it makes everything else so much easier to manage effectively without compensations. You want the butt of the club at the ball and your hands in front of the torso on the yellow line.

The fix is the understand how to hinge the club off the ball with your wrists. It’ll feel like you’re making your entire takeaway with the wrists - exactly the opposite of now - but when you look at it it’ll be on plane.

Been following this thread from the beginning. I am not the best with the terminology of p1 through p6. However I seem to have the same issue as the recent poster. My swing tends to be very flat and it's because I don't think I hinge my wrist vertically the right way. I wish there was a way to train this move properly.

There is. I’m going to make a short video about it when my health allows. In essence, stand at address and hinge your wrists up so the club comes straight up as if you wanted to smack yourself in the head with it, but don’t move your arms.

Then move your wrists the other way so that the knuckles on your right hand move towards the outside of your right forearm.

The other factor is forearm rotation and the only way to figure out how much to do that is with loads of mirror work to left arm parallel (P3).

I get the your upward hinging but not where you say move your wrists the other way so knuckles on right hand moves towards outside of the right arm.

So much better - night and day better. You just need a bit of the Justin Rose drill to give you a little more space and slow down the opening of the shoulders.

I’m sure you’ve seen it, but if not…

Been trying to implement the ntc past few days and no matter what I do, I either top the ball or actually miss it.

Any ideas?

Certainly means you're doing something different!

Posting a video is probably your best bet for help (and seriously, I have plenty of me over the past months shanking, duffing,  topping). Also try practicing in slow motion, like you're going to hit a 7 iron less than 50  yards.

More about my golf , playing 6 months, had a few lessons, miss is high weak right slice with both irons and driver.

Even with a strong grip , I seem to struggle to close the face.

Also hit a few shanks .

7 iron around 145y

Driver 200y (90mph swing speed)

Also left hand dominant in the swing (being left handed) but play some sports right.

You’re massively overcooking the no turn part. No turn doesn’t mean restrict your turn, it means you don’t actively turn but allow your torso and hips to respond to the movement of your hands and arms.

You have to get those hips moving and allow your shoulders to turn some more.

Cheers , looking back it's obvious I'm restricting my hips.

Will have a play today, I hope I don't break the range.

I'm very stiff and struggle with mobility in general, any exercises I can do?

Would allowing my feet slightly open help with the hips?

Thanks for not flaming! 🤣

It’s very rarely a mobility issue. Opening the feet is fine. 👍🏻

Nobody will flame you for being a beginner here, buddy. 🙂

Small steps fella, don't think of cast A at this point. Put an alignment stick at 7 o'clock relax and hinge those wrists over that stick and stop.Arms straight and relaxed. I guarantee rather than sending those arms out and those hips being restricted they will turn fine.

Hit shots from there and record it.

No, this is a good group, here.

Aside from the good advice you got, here is one more:  Ditch the mats and hit off grass.

You can't be afraid to take a divot with NTC.  (And, those mats look painful, anyway!)

Many people don’t have the option to hit off grass - especially in the U.K.

The Justin Rose drill was a game changer for me when it comes to pairing with no-turn cast. It just keeps me closed longer and gives me all the time in the world to square the clubface.

Which of the two justin rose drills are you using?

I am using the drill from the video (higher up on this page)  where he is talking about pulling his left arm down to start the downswing. I have put this into my pre-shot routine. Sergio also talks about this same move saying to feel like you are ringing a bell with your left arm.

That’s the one, but you have to do it in conjunction with Monte’s Cast A.

Yeah he has a couple where he is saying roughly the same thing. The only negative on the one posted is when he mentions lag. Not so keen on that part.

My problem is with balancing the turn and the arm and wrist shallowing. When I get it right it's effortless hitting the ball.
