Bryson - not a rich kid. Sounds like family struggled financially

Is the point that his parents had to “sacrifice” in order to allow their son to travel extensively and not have a weekend/after school job?  Of course they did, luxuries often involve sacrificing. That makes them normal, not destitute.

He copied a text book rather than have his parents spend $$$ I read.  They were already spending $$$ on his golf.  Course it does not mean he's poor as pointed out above.

Not that money matters to me. I am very rich, unlike Bryson

 

I never bought bags until I got married - 35 years ago.  My wife's family were unconventional, but quite well off.  They bought bags because it's cheaper.  When she was a kid her mom made instant skim milk from powder, because it was even cheaper.

 

The bags are a small PITA to use vs. cartons, but I just checked a local store and a 2L (pretty much 2 quarts) carton is $4.29.  You can get 4L in bags for $4.59.  Almost the same price for twice as much.  So that's what we buy.

 

As for Bryson, I think he was a good kid to thank his parents for the sacrifices they made so he could pursue his career.  You don't have to be poor to be in that situation, just "not rich".

 

I am very much like Bryson in that way, and not at all like MtlJeff...

Are the bags recyclable ? Cartons and plastic jugs are for sure.  I have outdoor furniture made from milk jugs and it’s freaking indestructible.  Like last 200 years indestructible.  And I buy 2 gallons at a time. ( 12 year old and I go through that every 7 days )  How do you store that much in bags ?  I guess 2 gallon pitchers aye ? Not judging. Just curious.  That and the egg thing. I never knew that almost everywhere else doesn’t refrigerate eggs.  Just the US.
