Q-Star Alternative

I have been playing Q Stars for a few years. They play real well for my game. Looking for maybe a change this year just because.

 

I played E6 in the past and was not impressed with distance. 
 

Topflight gamers and tours played “ok” in the past as well. 
 

ideas on something different in that $25-$30 range?

If you want something a little softer the Top Flite Hammer Control is very good as well as the new srixon soft feel and titleist tru feel.  I have used these 3 models most of the year as well as the new gamer for a while.  If less spin is your goal the maxfli sofftfli is very good.  The e12 soft is also good but you can get very similar play from the other ones I mentioned for less money.

Agree, E12 should work and in your price range. I prefer previous gen soft feels - not the brites.

TaylorMade Soft Response would be similar...but i'd suggest trying the TM Tour Response or Srixon QStar Tour. Pricier but can be found on sale, and both just better soft/lower compression balls.

Another vote for Soft Response / Tour Response.  Both are solid offerings in their genres.  Tour Response is a fantastic 3 piece urathane ball at a nice price, and even better when you find it on sale.  

 

Another decent option in the ionomer cover range is the Callaway Diablo Tour.  Can be had at a good deal at Dicks, they are decent at their price point and construction.

Maxfli tour, OnCore Elixr are a couple really good urethane golf balls in the price range you mention.

The QStar is a really, really good ball for that class.  I would check out the E12 if you want something different.  I switched to the E12 soft from the Tour BXS since Thanksgiving and have really liked it.

 

I thought about trying the TopFlite Gamer as well, but I just stick with Bridgestones.  One of the Youtube guys reviewed the Gamer not too long ago and liked it.

So I made a mistake last year and got the Srixon Z Stars because they were on sale.......too much ball for me. I started this thread a while back so wanted to get the feedback on a different ball this year. I still like the Q Stars but the Q Star Tour seems to be shorter for me, not sure how that can be.  Lots of noise about Taylor Made Response and i'm not sure what Titlest or Callaway offering are decent these days in 2022/2023 for my style. (HCP 12, Swing Speed Driver Guess 84-86, 56 Years old). It winter time in PA so time for me to do this years research.

Interesting timing. I also bought the z stars as they were on sale. They are a lot firmer than the 2 piece balls, I usually play. What didn't you like about the Z stars? I am curious of the difference between the Q star and the Soft Feel. I love the yellow color on the Soft Feel. But, when it comes to the QST and Z star, it is an ugly sparkly lighter color yellow.  What type of yellow does the Q star have?

I'll echo the Q Star Tour and Tour Response recommendations.  I'm trying out the Vice Pro Soft as well, really like the lime.  Haven't used them enough yet to compare to QST and Tour Response.

Have you ever tried a Wilson ball?  Specifically the Elite 50?  It would be a cheap experiment as they go for under $20 a dozen.

 

To be clear you are looking for something comparable to the Q-Star and not the Q-Star Tour.

Correct.  Q Star alternative.   The QTour was shorter for me.

Oncore Elixr .. I've played the QTours and the Elixrs and thought the Oncore balls were the better of the two albeit very similar.

The 2022 Taylormade Tour Response look to be good and I will be playing them next year but unless you can find a sale they are about $32.50 a doz.

Haven't played it in a while. But, the e6 was a comparable ball to the Q star back in the day. 

 

I also love the Velocity as a 2 piece distance ball. It feels pretty good. I like the white, not the matte versions.

E12 is unbelievably long. No spin.

Why not just get the Q stars?
