M grind was available as a standard option on the retail SM7 54*

they took it away and now are charging more for it as a special option.

They took away the 58 L and 54 M in the SM8 because it was their worst sellers for a few years.

Would rather have the S grind in a 50* like the Jaws MD5. I like the M grind, but I don't see the utility of an M grind in a gap wedge.

How about feel?  I might be due for new wedges myself and have been a Callaway wedge fan for years.  I grabbed a Vokey sm7 because it looked great at address but the feel was terrible.  Felt rock hard.  Grabbed my PM grind and the feel is much softer.  I haven’t been to a store to check out the Jaws wedges but I’d like to see the LBW grind since it has 8 degrees of bounce in the 58 and 60.  But the Vokey... I still wonder what the attraction is.

The MD5 are very nice wedges but the Vokey's are definitely not rock hard, they use the exact same metal and manufacturing process as the MD5.

Not on course but I have tried the T20s at a local golf store, just chipping and a few shots on the monitor. Not really a fan of the looks to be honest but the wedge felt solid.

I have the T20 and the ES from Mizuno.  Going back to the T20s with different shafts.

I don’t get why you need heel and toe grind on a gap wedge. I love the M grind on higher lofted wedges.

They just sounded “clicky” compared to my Callaway PM grind wedges.  I hit them the other night together.  The pm grind had a soft thud to them and the Vokey was like hitting a frozen golf ball.  Hopefully the MD5 feels like the pm grid or it’ll be another set of those.

They specifically state on the page that this is useful for players using a 3 wedge system (PW/GW/LW). The additional versitility definitely helps when you have one less wedge.

Can be quite useful if you have a 46/52/58 wedge set up.

I game this exact setup. I'm extremely interested in the 52. I have the F right now, but sometimes struggle to open it up a little around the greens for little bump and runs. This may fit the bill. I've always had the M in the 58, and recently switched to T, but would love to give the M a run in a lower lofted club.

Yeah I can't see how the 54 M would be a poor seller.

It was one of the worst sellers along with 58L that’s why they got rid of it and added the 54D which is similar to M just a little more bounce which most people can benefit from

Most people don’t hit flop shots etc. with gap wedges or a 54. M grind is for hitting versatile shots around the green. If all you are hitting is square faced shots go with a standard grind.

It was, heard Aaron Dill talk about it in a SM8 interview for the reason they ditched the 58L and 54M.

Interesting, I use my 54 a lot around the green (probably more than my 60 tbh) and often open the face a touch so I'm pretty surprised nobody else seems to also do that lmao. Appreciate the insight.
