Alright, so I've now had a range session, 18 holes, and a par 3 course to review these things.  Here are my thoughts so far:

 

Looks: Slightly chunkier than my Adams CMB irons, but really quite nice at address.  I still need to get used to the look of how the hosel transitions into the face of the club, that seems to accentuate the look of offset on the irons to me (even though there is really not that much offset here).

 

Feel / Sound: Surprisingly good!  I don't think there is much if any drop off in terms of feel from my CMBs, which are forged.  Really pleased with this.

 

Performance: Wow.  Wow wow wow.  I've got just 18 real holes in with these things and 7 executive course holes, but I'm am super impressed so far.

 

Background on me: handicap hovers between scratch and about 3.  Iron game neither a strength nor weakness.  I put the middle of the club onto the ball an acceptable amount.  Typical shot is a draw / pull / pull-draw, or a little wipey cut.  7 iron usually goes 180.

 

I was cautiously optimistic after my first range session.  Ball seemed to fall right for me more often than not, and I wasn't all that impressed with height or distance.  Still, a good first date, mainly because I was pleasantly surprised with the look and feel.

 

Played 18 holes the next day (yesterday) and got to test them in real life conditions.  Still unimpressed with total distance (seemed to maybe go a few yards shorter than my CMBs), but I hit an awful lot of 'pretty good' shots with them, and no real clunkers.  What would have been a pull-hook with my CMBs was now just a slight tug with a slight draw, and it seemed like I hit an awful lot of greens when I may not have otherwise.

 

Tonight I got 7 holes in on my local par 3 course.  The holes ranged from about 130 yds to almost 200 yds, so I got to test out the full 5-PW set.  There was a super slow twosome behind me and nobody in front, so I played 3 balls off of every tee, all Pro V1s.  The clubs went the distances I expected them to (not really longer or shorter than my current gamers), but I was astonished at the distance consistency.  This is something I've heard is a strength of these irons, and let me tell you that I experienced it first hand.  Every hole, I'd hit 3 tee shots that included ok strikes and great hits, and I'd get up to the green and my pitch marks were basically in a dead straight line left to right on the green.

 

Over and over and over, the shots carried the exact same distance, whether it was a pure strike or a slight mishit.  Again, I had the experience where a would-be pull hook was just a slight tug with a slight draw that still hit the green, and it happened enough times tonight where I'm starting to believe in it.  Overall tonight, I hit 20 shots into the greens, and hit 16 greens, with two on the fringe and one just off the fringe.  The green I missed badly was when I swung my 50 degree SM7 gap wedge off the tee rather than a 3/4 PW.

 

To say I am happy with these irons is a gross understatement.  I've never experienced consistency like I did this evening, and it's not like I was swinging great every time.  Heck, I even thinned one out of the heel pretty badly on one shot and it still had enough on it to get onto the front of the green (maybe landed 10 yards short of the other two shots on a 170 yard hole).

 

Factor in the price ($125/head) and it's no wonder to me that these are 10 weeks out.  Everyone should be playing these clubs.  If you're on the fence, buy them!  I expect to keep these in my bag for years to come.  I'm thinking about filling out my set with a 4i and a UW now that I've seen how remarkable the rest of the set is.

The sad thing to me is that you’re exactly correct. Novices and generally high handicappers are led into Super Game Improvement sets that send the ball the greatest possible distance in any direction, and  have so little spin that they can’t hold a green even if they hit one. It’s like having all teenagers learn to drive in McLarens to make sure that they can go fast enough.

they are fantastic. Best looking short irons imo. Wish the 3-6 had similar offset but they are still great

Yup.  Both great and U is one of my favorite clubs in my bag.  Not sure what makes it so special... it has its own magic dust for sure.

A well written prose that echoes what I've said for the past 5 months .......CONSISTENCY.....due to new p/t job and poor weather,  I've only gotten 150 holes in yet still at 72.6% greens hit while still learning these irons. Yeah #metoo .....I'm also done with irons!

I've always struggled with distance control with full swing wedges.. The i210s excel at putting out repeatable distances. The U looks good at address with its nice square toe, and puts out really consistent distances.
