I have been trying to wean myself from the NFL teat and stay away from all the Super Bowl hype.  It has been difficult but I am feeling good about moving on.

 

In order to play our little Pigskin Pick-em game correctly and move up the standings, I should probably go "against the grain" (shoutout to The Dan Patrick Show's former Danette McLovin) and come up with some Bengal BS but I cannot do this.  The Bengals O-Line gives up too many sacks and the Rams will hurry, harass, and harangue Mr. Burrow all game.  They have only scored 5 TD's in the playoffs and 1 was when LV quit after the whistle and while their 12 FG's are nice it ain't going to be near enough.   

 

"Who Dey" becomes "Blue Day" as the Rams win big in a rout.

You may be spot on NCL but I so hope you are not. I am thinking that Cincy will only try quick routes so that J.B. will have the ball gone before the Rams D line gets in his face. Slow steady small chunks. I worry that Cincy won't have success running the ball with Mixon against that stellar defense, and there might not be the time like you say to see many deep ball fireworks out of Burrow's arm. I see the Bengals drives stalling often and them settling for FG's. This is why I like the under.  But if it's in the 4th quarter and the Bengals are still in it, then my money is on number 9 finding a way to win the big one.  Let's hope it is competitive.

One fine winter day. 

It was fantastic weather for golf today in the AVL. I intended to tell y'all this evening how it went on the hills of BFCC this afternoon, but I have been posting things here and there already so I will wait until I have a more energetic mind.  

 

58* with abundant sunshine and a 5 mph breeze out of the west.  

 

Just soaking up the warmth for hours was Lucky LP.

When I saw touch’s post about where the Bengals fans were meeting up in Manhattan Beach and seeing the corresponding pic… I think to myself. Can you imagine coming from Cincinnati to that and then having to go back to Cincinnati???  😣

The only problem with that scene is the fans in SoCO are not real fans.  Only because the Super Bowl happens to be there. They can't even draw fans to playoff games.  Cinncy has die hards, they will live and die with that team every Sunday.  How many Rams fans are willing to do that?  It might always be sunny in SoCo but I will take a cold snowy day in CInncy and a room full of howlin fans for my gameday experience any day.

I agree 100%, but will add this caveat.

Cincinnati has the Bengals and the zoo, and for a delightful experience they can drive down to KY and shovel horse crap if they can get through the gates to the estates along the road.

LA has nightclubs, surf, mountains, DIsney (hour away), Universal, Hollywood Blvd, Walk of Fame, Venice Beach, great golf courses, and sunshine.

If I lived in Cincy I would be a Bengal fan, for sure.  If I lived in LA I would be a fan of all things but the Rams because there is just too much to do.

This is objectively how I see it.

Subjectively, I couldn't stand to watch the Bengals unless I had to and if Lawrence McCutcheon isn't running the ball, I ain't watching the stinking Rams either.  If they meet in the SB, I will take a deep breath and watch, though.

Burrows is very mobile though so thinking a lot of sprint outs, QB draws, mixed into game plan, especially couple at start.

As LP stated above, yesterday was a nice break from the "wintery" weather here in North Carolina.  We teed off at 2PM with full sun, about a 10 mph wind and 58 degrees.  As the sun lowered about 5PM it did get a little chilly on the back 9.  I should have switched to a heavier 1/4 zip at the turn!

Walked, front 9 was not busy and we flew.  Back 9 was quite busy and we invited a single behind us to join us on the 11th and he turned out to be a former co-worker of Mrs. NCL at Duke Hospital so they had a nice time reuniting.  He's a bit over 70 and was great to play with and talk to.

Shot a 91 (45-46) from mixed tees about 5500 yards.   37 putts (5 3 putts🤬), 11 of 14 fairways hit with those 3 misses all just in the rough.  Recently traded in my Cleveland XL Lite driver for a Ping G and liked the results.  I hadn't played in a month and the rust showed but hopefully we will get back to the course more often with better weather ahead.

Talking about the locations. Not the football fan scene. But to each their own! Stay warm and I’ll enjoy the sun and beach! 😜

Now that brought a chuckle. Bob Cat the thread creator of the 60's and 70's music appreciation thread just posted the same black and white photo of Bailey and Loni that received so much air time here with us.

Back on Monday the 31 rst of Jan. I played down with the boys at Links. Karl, big George, Mike, and myself. It was 42* and sunny with no wind. My game was all over the place. I had 4 doubles and 2 birdies. I hit 12 fwy's and 11 greens. I finished strong with 4 straight pars. I shot an 82 and that was good for a distant 3rd place. 

The following day I played Broadmoor with Dr. Steve, Kirk, and Bob. It was 43* with partly cloudy skies and 15-20 mph winds. It was cold. I really did not have much feel in my hands for shot making even though I wore two gloves and used hand warmer packets. I did my best to keep grinding but my best was rather weak. I had 3 doubles and 2 birdies. I hit 11 fwy's and 11 greens. I once again shot an 82. It was the lowest score in the group yes, but my Broadmoor buddies are far less accomplished than my Tryon group. I thought at the conclusion of that second round that this best not becoming a trend. I do like making multiple birdies during a round, but what good is when you upchuck just as many or more doubles?  lol.  It is winter golf so rather than get hung up on my score I just give gratitude for getting out there. Besides in season I practice and take lessons a great deal. I do little of both currently. Those were my 6th and 7th rounds of 2022.

We are experiencing warmer than average temperatures here in the mountains during the middle of this week. I took yesterday off and played with some members. I arrived early and spent 30 minutes on the range. The irons were crisp, but the driver was a touch pushy. I rolled some for about 10 minutes and found nice and tame green speed. These were not BFCC's in season 13.0 scary putting surfaces. At a quarter till noon our first drives went into the brilliant blue sky. The temperature was 58* and there was no winter wind factor. All winter long play begins on the back due to the front side taking the longest to have the sun hit it and remove the frost. I actually prefer starting on 10 as I can on occasion snag three pars out of the gate. Starting on number one my chances of doing the same are far less. Ten is a severely uphill long par 4 of 399 yards. I smoke my opening drive and have 189 left. I hit my 3wd solid but it stopped 10 yards short of the green. The pin was in the back and 10 is a monster sized green. I had a way long chip. I have had this chip before and always remind myself to give it plenty of go as it is a long way. I put the gap W a little back in my stance and pinched it nicely. It came to rest inside two feet. USEFUL par to start. Eleven is a downhill short par 4 headed straight towards the clubhouse. I weak toe pushed my 3 wd tee shot into the rough. I had 175 in. Flyer for sure so I pulled 4 hybrid. I hit it well but missed the green pin high left. Big dish green 11 is. I hit a nice soft 60* but already forgot the greens were not normal speed. It finished 8 feet short. First lip out and first bogey. 12 is an uphill shorter par 4. I hit a driver that was way blocked. It went right of the cart path and into the rough on 10. Lucky there were parallel holes because that should have been an OB special. Yikes that was a poor drive. From the neighboring hole's rough I had 125 in and way uphill. I pulled 7 and just smoked a laser at the pin. After the lengthy ride up the hill I saw my Pro V inside 10 feet. Lip out number two. One over after 3 holes. 13 is to me the second hardest hole on the course. I nail a drive because I put extra force into it after flailing the last one right. I had 170 in. Just as I drew it up I nailed my 5 wood to 15 feet. I never hit this green in regulation but I did not capitalize as I lipped out another one. Still a 4 on 13 is really good for me and my ability. Still one over. I will always remember how I played the next hole. 14 is a very short uphill par 4 of 280 yards. There is a very small part of the fairway you have to hit or you are in trouble to get home in two. I push(another one) my 3 wood  UGH !  (remember I was pushing a good many on the range before) and ended up with tree blockage. I have been there a good number of times before. All I can do is hit a low 7 iron escape punch runner of 30 yards and pray it comes to rest on the the tiny patch of fairway just under the green. I was not lucky as it nicked a fallen stick under the tree and went left. Then it went down the steeply banked fairway 65 yards behind me. Negative yardage. It was a sad walk back to the cart and then have to grab another club and shoot another yardage. I shook my head and exhaled. I had 112 left to the table top green. I pulled a 9 iron. The short iron guy nailed it. I drive up to hear great shot LP from the group. It was 10 feet underneath the pin. I drained it. So in recapping.....that was no fairway hit, no green hit, and a one putt for a par. I shouted are you f*cking kidding me as I looked up to the beautiful blue and sun filled sky, and then said to the group "sorry I forgot I was at the country club" and laughed aloud some in some sarcastic tone that Bill Murray would have used.  😄           I was just jolted by experiencing something that was kind of rare in the game yet something that is so very golf. Still just one over. Par 3 175 yds is no. 15. I select the 5wd. I am the only one to hit the green. It was a good shot to 20 feet. That makes two home runs by the club that has been in my bag by far the longest (10 years). I miss the birdie and once again it's a sturdy par. One over. I nailed a drive on 16 and hit the middle of the green. I 3 whacked it. What ? I am not P48 boys, I am not a solid one with the flat stick. Two over. I pulled my drive a little on 17 the way long par 4 (430). I see it in the creek but it is sitting up. I have a dry stance. The ball is 18 inches above my feet. I take a 7 iron and made good contact and advanced it up the fairway. I had 105 in. Nailed a gap W to 10 feet but missed the par putt. Three over. I hit a nice drive on 18. I hit a five iron in that finished 10 yards short of the green. There were 4 guys watching the action from the adjacent practice green and a foursome on No. 1 tee overlooking us. I chunked my chip horribly in front of the audience. It stopped and then rolled back behind me 50 yards. Here again I was accumulating more negative yardage. That walk down the bank to my ball was a gut punch stroll. It was my most current reminder of why I stay away from competitive golf and semi decent money games. I gag because I can feel those dozens eyes directed at me.  lol  But I never cared for either types of golf anyway, nope for me it's being out of doors taking in the fresh air and spending valuable time with the buddies. So I look over my 3rd shot from down in the valley of hacks. I still have the same faces in the gallery peering on. I made it to the range the day before and worked a good bit on wedges inside 100. I shook my head and exhaled deeply. With a pissed and confident pass I hit up on the green to 5 feet. Saved it again after a major boo boo. I will not go into a shot by shot replay on how I played the back 9.  I had some solid pars and also a few mishaps. When the scores were tallied up at 3:30 I managed to take the trophy with a 79. That is 9 over. Remember this Donald Ross course in Asheville that turned 100 years old this year is a par 70. 

Following a pair of 82's at far easier tracks, my 79 yesterday was a much better performance.
