High and soft landing from 260-270 out.....what club to buy?

Did you try a 5 wood or 4 wood at a 3 wood, or even 2 wood length say like 43 or 43.5 inches?  That might be another option also that will work.

I have enough club speed fortunately to not need the added shaft length. I'm playing it at 42 and it seems to be fitting what I'm looking for so far. I need the control vs the "distance" a longer shaft provides

Pixl, what is your lowest handicap ever? That is a beautiful golf swing, just looks effortless. Did you play college golf?

 

I am amazed at how far some people can hit a dang golf ball. Certainly isn't the norm but you see one every now and then that it's something to see.

I got down to a 1.7 this year, my lowest ever, sitting around a 2.5 to end the year.

 

I did play in college, good enough to be the worst guy on the team for an NAIA school.....didn't keep a cap but breaking 80 was a good day.....I was in it for all the free golf.

 

My weakness is short game/approach game, my proximity to hole sucks and I rarely reward a good drive with a decent looking birdie putt.

 

When ever I put up a great score it's because the wedges were working that day

Just curious, how far do you hit a 7iron? And a driver? Do you have "drive it in the fairway" swing and a "rip it far as I can" swing or always the same swing pretty much? Again, really nice swing, you should work on your dang short game, you are blessed with that swing, lol!

Stock 7i (80%) swing is 175-180, I can squeeze 5-10 more yards but accuracy suffers obviously.

 

Driver carry is around  probably around 290 if I'm "honest", but I have had plenty of drives this year 340+ total given some favorable conditions and a nutted swing. Longest drive this year was gps measured at 372

 

I don't hit a ton of fairways but am good for 12 or more greens per round, just not that close to the flag. If I played for center green every time I'd hit a few more.

 

They're aren't a ton of "long" courses around here so it's easy for my game to fall into a bomb and gouge style.

 

Bogeys are usually a result of missing a green and not getting a chip inside 4 feet.

 

I could improve my putting as well but the chipping hurts me the most

 Just being a smart “Word not allowed” here.  But, at 67, my answer would be “driver + gap wedge”.

 

How I envy you young, strong smart guys.  By the time I learned how to hit a ball well, my age caught up with me and now I physically can’t.

We just got 4 inches of rain over the weekend. Everything stops soft now, problem solved.

We're getting that mon-wed of this week!

 

This past weekend was 2C and 3C respectively for my starting times. I hit 5 iron from 160 out once with the wind in the face.

 

I mean, i put it to 5 feet because i'm still MtlJeff at the end of the day. But you get the idea

1. If you are thinking you can hit a fairway wood that far, that means your drives are probably 320 +/-....what the hell kind of course are you playing?  The par 5's are 600 yards????

2. If the Par 5's arent that long, then something is off

My 2cents would be find a cobra F7 3/4 fairway wood on the cheap or something similar and use the rest of your money for a Putter fitting .
