Speak for yourself. I live in Parker, and I kvetch if I have to travel north of DTC, south of Castle Rock, or west of Centennial. 😄

We just did a work thing at Unser/Podium Karting this afternoon, and it took me an hour on 25 to get home. I need a drink.

I'm in Greeley, but it seems like we’re in Denver every weekend.

Greens fees for Broadmoor East are $395. It's another $40 for a cart if you want one. Double edged sword, at those rates they aren't checking too hard to see if you're a hotel guest. I guess a triple edge sword, because they also aren't marshaling. The last round I played there was absolutely brutal.

Broadmoor is not $395 + $40 when staying on site. https://www.broadmoor.com/activities/golf/rates-customs

All great points on cost and on playing a course more then once.

I must be be "old" as some of these prices to play a few of these courses,  1 or 2 rounds is the monthly dues at alot of clubs and you could play all month.  Now I know many like to play different courses and I am similar but I can not tell if these rates are becuase of the Covid Golf boom or not?

We are for sure lucky in Denver area as we have Common Ground, Riverdale, MC, Highland Meadows, Walnut Creek, Collindale and a number of others that are far cheaper and just as good if not better.  *Of course depends on each golfer's perspective.

On a different note, I got home tonight and the wife and daughter informed me to not buy any golf balls.   2 dozen coming.

https://www.titleist.com/product/2022-fathers-day-pro-v1/T2027C-LE39.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlubP_p_b9wIV8RHnCh2llgmDEAQYASABEgI7iPD_BwE

I was cleared last week on Thursday to start praticing by the PT and in 3 weeks try 9 holes.   PD here I come.  Last year I did the buy 3 get 1 free from Titleist, was working through the other balls I had and never touched the Titliest. Now will have 6 dozen... so should be good for at least 3 rounds  🤣

I was just talking about the same thing with my friend from Nebraska. He’s been wanting to play TPC. I told him we could play Collindale, Mariana Butte, and Highland Meadows for the same money (maybe even less, taking into account what Dancin just said). But I did just find out I do a know a member, I don’t know if they have to play with you to get the member rate and play on the weekend. I played it shortly after it opened, we had a group of 12 and somehow did get a better rate, $125 I think it was.

When is the Collindale open?

The Collindale Invitational is June 4 & 5

They comped me last year, but I VIVIDLY remember watching someone check in.

They asked if he wanted a cart, then tagged him for $435.

Either they lowered the prices or I’m losing my mind. Both are possible…

I'm not really a fan of the pinery. Pradera is pretty good for an Engh but it's still an Engh. CGC however...... Fav course in the state

Pinery a cupcake.

I don't hate Engh, but I understand why people do. I think Pradera gives you a sense of what his work could look like if he had adhered to more widely accepted architectural principals.

CGC an absolute masterpiece. It's hard to compare metro area courses to Bally without factoring in the drive, but I think if you care about architecture more than you care about history then CGC beats Cherry Hills running away...

To be fair, Canterberry used to be public. But, yeah, the lack of public golf courses in my corner of the metro area does suck. And, yes, I'll also kvetch if I have to drive to Elizabeth, too. 😄

I grew up playing Canterberry. Worst routing of any course that I have ever encountered in a landslide. At some point they swapped hole three and hole seven, which like if that's ever the solution 😞

Some great holes though and great uses of Aroyos, like a poor (destitute, starving) man's Rustic Canyon. I'll take it over the target fest over at Blackstone any day...

When I think about it, I actually should give props to Family Sports and The Links for being nice, easy, and walkable courses in my area. They're enjoyable enough for my wife and kids to play. The front 9 at Lone Tree is also nice and walkable, but the back 9 is just a hard pass. South Suburban is a bit further away, and it's also a great course.

Mentions drive to Ballyneal as a negative...Day trip to Wild Horse! 🤣

💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥

-Having done both multiple times. Ballyneal is a perfect long day trip. Gothenberg is too far- play, stay at comfort suites for $90, eat at the restaurant across the street (order the grandma), play the next day, and then drive home.

Hahahahahaha I would NEVER in my wildest dreams slander Ballyneal. It's just difficult (for me) to compare it to metro area courses without factoring in the drive. In a vacuum it's the best in state course and the second best course I've ever played (I liked Estancia).

I know you mentioned Dismal in the past. It's a shame there is no major highway going north south in NE. Day trip to Dismal is just a little too extreme (although I think day trip to Wild Horse is nuts too)

Yeah I've never done it as a day trip, I was thinking Wild Horse was doable because it's all highway, but the comfort suites and the grandma sound like a good addition. I'm evaluating...

Yea we stopped the "day" trip to WH. Dancin and Krush are right just tough in one day.

The 6hr drive Dancin is referring too is always a long weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) and get in 4 rounds so that is easier to absorb.

I have not played 36 holes in a day since probably 2003. Tomorrow, 7:10am tee time at Fossil Trace, then 2:10pm tee time at Arrowhead. I better start loading up on Aleve now.

I hope your needing of Aleve was not warranted!

I can definitely understand!  I used to play (and walk) 36 on Saturday followed by more of the same on Sunday when I lived in Delaware back in 1990-1992.  I really never had problems with my feet or fitness and I was wearing Footjoy Classic shoes with leather soles.  AHHHHHHHH, the benefits of being young.

Yeah. I wouldn't have batted an eye in my teenage or pre-kid years.

We couldn't have asked for a better Sunday to play 36 holes. As an added bonus, the winds pretty much stayed away. However, the most amazing thing was that we almost played 18 at Fossil Trace in under 4 hours--if the foursome of hackers in front of us had let us play through early, we might've finished in 3h30m! The course was in fabulous shape, and the greens were rolling really well.

Arrowhead hosted a charity shotgun scramble in the morning, and we were one of the first groups out after the tournament finished. The course had zero carts available, so we teed off about 10 minutes late as the scramble finished up. They also sent off groups on both 1 and 10. Despite that, we also pretty much finished in 4 hours. The greens were still recovering from being punched, and the bunkers were pretty terrible. I also 5-putted #18 because they put the pin in a ridiculous spot.

Regardless, it really wasn't about playing well (which I didn't). It was about spending the day with a good friend (and his friend) who flew in for a weekend of golf. I was going to join them at Commonground this morning, but I thought better of it and canceled my spot.

Yes, Colorado Golf Club. It's a tough, fair, but interesting layout. Conditions are prime. It's the first course I've played around here where your approaches are like Augusta: depending on the pins you usually need to land the ball in a specific area to funnel to the hole. Because of that, strategy and course management are the keys to a good number. Ever since I started playing tournament golf my favorite courses have been the ones that require a lot of strategy to get around well.

I've only played it twice for the first inaugural USGA Four-ball so I haven't played it in years now. I'm going to play it again late July so I will let you know if I still feel the same way about it but I was in love the first time. As far as getting on, you need to know a member or someone else that can make it happen (PGA or GCSAA.) Guest rates are in the $220 range if memory serves.
