OK, time to get this season started. 'No idea why the LPGA website doesn't list the TV/streaming schedule. The intern is probably on an extended holiday break. There is only 90 minutes of coverage on Sunday. Perhaps it'll be streamed on GC or Peacock.

 

Friday looks like it'll be rainy, and there's a chance for t-storms on the weekend.

 

Field strength is fairly decent, but four of the World's Top 10 are sitting out (Jin Young, Sei Young, Hyo Joo, Minjee).

well its advertised on Sky Sports over here in the UK from 5pm on Thursday on Sky Sports Mix, Sky Sports Golf via Red Button (Interactive service so I would have to guess its on Golf Channel or Peacock. Looking forward to watching the opening tournament, I hope Michelle Wie-West (That still sounds wired lol) plays well and also seeing the stunning Lake Nona course again could be very good golf ^_^

As of today, Nelly Korda has been world #1 for a total 28 weeks thanks to her slimmest lead over Jin Young Ko:

However, her luck may run out this week.  She needs to earn 13.0 Rolex points to stay ahead of Jin Young.  That means, she needs either a win or a two-way tie for second.

They need to win during the last two years.

 

Michelle Wie West is the only exception.  Her last win was in 2018, but she's in the field based on Medical/Maternity exemption.

Looks like LPGA gets bumped from NBC to GC because NBC now has football and on top of that LPGA has to be done before PGA starts on GC.

Hana Bank.    She is a new ambassador for Hana Bank.  I suspect that Hana Bank will adorn her bag, and it is only speculation at this point, but I think that she will keep her PXGs for equipment as she has been playing well with them AND the sponsorship has been replaced by Hana Bank in terms of $$$     I am not sure that there are any equipment companies willing to step up to be a full blown sponsor but who knows?  The "poster" was received this morning for the HSBC Women's event showing Lydia in her 2022 attire.

Lydia has been under contract with Hana for many years; it looks like they elevate it this year to her main endorsement in dollar term.

I don't see Lydia as a equipment free agent....I would expect some kind of OEM endorsement of some kind in the future.

Technically speaking Hana Capital is a "different company" from Hana Bank ... but, yeah its all the same ownership.   

 

Main point is that she appears to be a new FULL ambassador for Hana Bank.

Nelly is on a tear; she's added 70,000 new Instagram followers to 465,000 in the last two months.  Things like that don't usually happen during the off season.

 

Being world #1 and playing PNC when Tiger and Charlie were in full blossom help; but we shouldn't forget about LPGA's focus campaigning to get Nelly out there.

 

The rubber will hit the road soon; we'll see whether Nelly can move the TV rating needle soon.
