2022 Drive On event

Scores should be low, especially with the temps back up and fair weather. My daughter played the course back in December and said it is fairly generous with a few risk-reward opportunities (she shot 71 from the tees they are playing). Said it was in nice shape and they should be able to get the greens running quick (fast greens and pin placements will be its main defense). The leaders in the monday qualifier are currently -5 and -4 with some holes to go.

Looks like they are actually playing the tournament course (I agree they almost never do). When I look at the Monday Q site (https://qs.lpga.com/) for example the LA Open is at Wilshire Country Club while the Q site is listed as Wood Ranch Golf Course. Same for the Canadian Open with the Q site at The Marshes while the tournament is at The Hunt.

The reason they never do is because on Monday the tournament course is reserved for a full day of practice for tournament players.  It looks this week the tournament players gave up more than half of a day of practice so the Monday Qualifiers can carry on their tournament.

I know, weird. Looks like last week they played at the tournament course as well.  Only 28 in the field this week with the last time at 9:39 so not too much taken from the Monday practice round. Definitely looks like these are the exceptions.

It's also a 3 day tournament ending on Saturday. Odd.

Mon Qualifying.

I think there were a few drop outs???....I think there were more than 28 entries on the list I saw a couple of weeks ago???

I'm disappointed Gina Kim gagged again.

Being successful in Mon qualifying is so difficult.

Vicky Hurst continues to toil playing competitive....she's gonna be 32 this year...I believe she's now in her 15th year playing pro golf.

Don't know how she pays the bills....one might think she'd give up tour golf years ago.

Much was expected from Vicky after an excellent Am career and a great 2008 on the Symetra tour.

A guy I know told me Vicky's mom, Koko, can being quite aloof...he wasn't wrong.

I remember seeing Vicky and her mom arguing on the range and Vicky walking away and off the range.

The members want their course back.

This is such a Mickey Mouse event.

Heck...maybe the winner might have an * to their name.🤣

I think a previous host course decided to bail and the LPGA was scrambling to find a host course in a short timeframe and they succumbed to the nonsense demands of Crown Colony.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the lpga.com stream is geo-blocked....besides....I like to record sports on TV and watch it later in FF.

There was no shame cancelling this event.

So who is funding the purse?.....the LPGA?

Too bad you're not in the Ft. Myers area.....you could have parked Bessie at the entrance at Crown Colony and put up a banner.

"Mollie...this event is a JOKE"

I think you are in the FLA panhandle now...have fun.

I really liked Gulf Shores....Red Neck Riviera....beautiful white sand beaches.

I assume you'll be playing golf in GS?

Currently in Valdosta, GA. I'll pass through Gulf Shores in a couple of weeks after stops in Tallahassee, Dothan, AL, Destin, and Mobile.

Going to play Highland Oaks in Dothan. It hosted the final week of Q Series.

Ya....I wanted to play Highland Oaks....but it's so far out in Hicksville.

A little out of the way. It's 2 hours from Tallahassee, so not too far off my path on the way to Destin, FL.

I'm planning to hit Capital Hill in Prattville, AL in March. I've played the Judge course, but have to play the Senator and Legislator courses. The LPGA played the Navistar on the Senator course for a few years a decade ago. The Epson Tour also plays there.

I'll also stop at Silver Lakes, east of Birmingham, in late March. That will complete a full tour of the RTJ Trail courses.

I didn't believe it when you mentioned 2-3 years ago about doing what you're doing now; it just showed how little I knew!

Congratulations, you're living your dreams!

you can have a sidejob as a "Storm Tracker"... I'm sick and tired of all these snowstorms out in the North East LOL... Another 8 inches headed here after over 1.5 ft a couple weeks back - Hideki won the Sunday before the blizzard so it was fun shovelling and screaming Hideki, hopefully someone I root for wins for this shovellling round LOL ... back to topic, this is a weird tournament all over -- schedule of play, coverage, and i dunno what's in fort myers but certainly I've been to orlando, ft lauderdale (on the way to Boca Raton), miami...

It's also in the sticks...but in 97...we played Cambrian Ridge...it was great....we played the par 3 course too....the par 3 course was a beast from the tips.

I think it was $35 US with a cart...special long weekend rate....all the golf you can play...it was so hot & humid...Labor Day weekend.....we played Magnolia (Falls)....but it was so hot.....we decided to bail on 2 other days of golf and a local suggested we beach in Gulf Shores.

I can't believe we drove to Cambrian from Mobile for a 1 day trip.

By the 2nd hole...we caught up to a single black gentleman....I asked if he wanted to join us...he was hesitant....but he did join us to play golf.

He was on the grounds crew and playing golf on his day off...he was a great course tour guide and a really nice guy.

I think he was hesitant because likely no one/few would ever ask him to join up....unfortunately racism...especially in the south.

I highly recommend Bochamps for dinner in Destin.  There is also a micro-brew just across the bridge in FWB that has a pretty good selection of beer.  Hope it is still in business.  It was at the end of a strip mall.  Good food too.

The RTJ Trail was a great idea from the Bama Pension Fund??? to boost tourism...the issue is that as a golf destination...there's too much driving from one site to another....but some complexes are HUGE and near one another if by the bigger cities.

Have you been stopping at Waffle House much?....I LUV WH...such a great greasy spoon.

I got addicted to WH (late night) & bourbon when I was on a biz trip to Lexington, KY back in the day.

The food scene here in IglooLand can be a bit too sterile...I love the greasy spoons and SLOP houses in the US...I LUV the bars with neon lights with great food and drinks/beer.

In a way...Americans like to have more fun and spend money vs we Canadians.

Americans LUV their sports....still can't believe Mahones & the Chiefs GAGGED...I guess Go Bengals now...though it would be nice to see the Rams win in LA.

I don't like the 49'ers.

I've been around FLA on vacation....although never in the panhandle but in nearby Gulf Shores....but I think the panhandle is likely the best place in FLA for white sand beaches, and VALUE for golf, accommodations and food.

There's literally nothing in Fort Myers. Downtown is sad.

I don't think the driving is excessive. Most courses are no more than two hours away. Also, most have hotels on site or close by, so you don't have a long drive in the morning. Lastly, most of the sites have 2 courses, and some have an additional short course, so you're not playing a round and then driving the same day. I've done three trips to the trail, Capital Hill/Cambrian Ridge/Grand National/Ross Bridge, Magnolia Grove/Lakewood, and The Shoals/Hampton Cove/Oxmoor Valley. I'm looking forward to completing the trail. I'll also play FarmLinks at Pursell Farms, the top ranked public course in the state.

I've been to the Waffle House a few times, but I prefer Denny's for cheap breakfast. Pancakes >>> waffles. Lol.
