Mizuno 223 Reviews

Got fitted into 223's and love them.   Not noticing any less forgiveness than the 225's I came from and I like the feel better.  Distances are more consistent now and I am getting more height and spin that I needed (partially due to higher lofts of course but also shaft and head construction I assume).

Love all three current MP models depending on what fits you best

Also just grabbed a set of 223s (lefty)  and they're replacing T100 in the bag for a few reasons: tad bit bigger,  shade more forgiving and slightly better in regards to tight fairway usage.  Very Solid!!!

This is interesting as I hit both last week and the T100 didn't touch the 223s with dispersion for me. Also for some reason the 223's had 2MPH club head speed increase. It was very odd. Hit 7 different iron sets and they were all consistent with a 89-90 mph the 223s were 92. I bought the 223s as they felt more pure and consistent.

223s are stronger-lofted than the T100s, by 2 degrees through the 8-iron, which would explain the faster ball speed.

223s ....... just a phenomenal set.  Outstanding feel throughout...... shotshaping on point and forgiveness is MUCH higher than size indicates!!

I have the Pro 223 4i-Pw with Nippon Modus3 115s. This combination produces a mid-flight with low to mid spin for me.  I appreciate the longer blade for my toe strike tendency and the beveled sole as it seems to effortless move through all turf conditions. The progressive forgiveness and feel make these irons a joy to play. I have weakened the lofts and have a 3* gap between 7 iron and 8 iron because the yardage gap was too large [4i 23*; 5i 27*; 6i 31*; 7i 35*; 8i 38*; 9i 42*; PW 46*]. These are paired with the T-22 denim copper wedges [50*, 54*, 58*].

@wfwp - sick set! I’m hoping I can snag these ferrules from mizzy when I order too. I’m picking up almost an identical set up.

How are the mid irons playing being weakened by 3*? Was hearing don’t go more than 1 or 2 but curious your experience.

I’m thinking about weakening in mid irons as I was getting some pretty crazy carry numbers from 7i in my fitting.

What grinds did you go with in wedges?

My current set of P790s haven't been working out. So, I went to Edwin Watts today to try a couple of irons. I ended up trying the Srixon SR5 mk2, SR4 mk2, and the Mizuno pro 223.

A while back I was an avid Mizuno user. I had the MX200's and the MP68s. Loved both of those irons.

So today I got a nice reminder why I loved mizunos. The feel and consistency of this club with the nippon shafts are outstanding. From the very first swing, the balls went straight and felt amazing. The distance was pretty good too.  Man I forgot how good Mizuno irons were.

The SR5 was pretty nice too but I didn't like the way the head set up behind the ball.

So they are bringing the 4-GW set from another store and will be here on tues-wed.

Unfortunately, Mizuno does not offer the ferrules. The lofts were adjusted to lofts that generated the distances that I wanted from each club and nothing needed to be adjusted more than 2 degrees. I chose the D grind for the 58* and 54*. I chose the S grind for the 50* wedge. Since the original post, I have done multiple indoor sessions to fine-tune my setup for 2023.

The ones Mizuno offer are slightly different. I got these a few weeks ago.

Slightly off topic but still about 223s. I’ve ordered a custom set after fitting and they will be flatter than stock and slightly weaker lofted. Is this coming forged that way? Or is Mizuno still just bending them the same way a pro shop would?

Mizuno will bend to specs. There are always tolerances so even if they forged to a spec they still would probably need a small adjustment

Was at the golf store recently just pulling some irons off the rack seeing how they look at address, have a small itch to test some new irons. Basically anything in a players iron I was grabbing and looking at address, got to the Mizuno's saw the 223's in LH grabbed the 5i, put it down and I really like the look and size of these. Usually I dismiss Mizuno just from lack of LH options recently but the look, size and info I've seen these could be a serious contender for me, also like the transition through the set without needed to combo set.

Similar experience. I have a fitting scheduled next week and went to the golf store to look at ALL the new irons. I especially like that they have full sets so I can look at the entire set - long irons to the wedge. My favorites were the 223s and t100s. The 223s looked amazing in all clubs but I do think the t100s have the best looking wedge. I have been a Mizuno 800 Pro -> 900 Forged player so I expected to move directly into the 923 Forged, but the 223 looked better to my eye. I will trust my fitter completely on the recommendation we come up with but if I was to buy off the rack the 223 would be it.

I have had my set for a season.  I love the performance and feel.  But the #1 thing is how good they look in the bag.

Id disagree with whats been stated and say the t100. Tons of tungsten and crazy high moi. The moi on the 223 is not known right now but i doubt its that high. The 223 has a bigger headsize  though, by quite a bit. So id say if your a bad striker, and you need more face area, 223 may fit the bill. If you are a decent striker and your misses are generally slight, then Id go t100. Also, i tested these two side by side extensively. 223 feels better, for sure. But t100 was just SO consistent with its dispersion. I had some wild ups and down with the numbers (or jumpers) with the 223, so if i had to pick, for me id go t100 just based on that.

Just MOI alone does not make an iron forgiving.

Haven’t posted in this thread yet but will echo what I said in other 223 threads

Came from many years of MP4s and my first CB in a long time. Completely blown away at the forgiveness of the sole design. Don’t look chunky at address at all. Got fit for them them when they first came out and still in love, hit all 3 irons in the line up and did not except to walk out with these. I play them a few degrees weak as I found they went a little too far. I think I play them 24-52* in 4* increments 4-G. Also the set gap wedge is a dream to chip with. As much as the allure of blades keeps calling me back, these things are so f****** solid I couldn’t possibly bench them in good conscience.

I’m about 3 months in on my 223s and couldn’t be happier with them. Look, feel, performance, forgiveness; checks all boxes. My only regret was not ordering them with custom ferrules like I had on my last set (2018 Apex MB/ Apex Pro combo).

My set make up is:

225 4i

223 5-9i

221 PW

Getting ready to give the 223 a try after a year plus with 225. Have really enjoyed the 225, just feel like my distance control could be better. Not flying greens or anything, but doesn't feel like I can pin hunt when hot, they are the perfect middle of the green irons though.

hoping I have that same ease of hitting but get a bit better distance control/ability to attack pins

Man , what a set .....forgiveness,  feel , nice looks....did I mention feel?

Not sure as to why I panicked with the 223s BUT I got extremely lucky and they were still at the shop for re-acquisition !! Just a solid, solid performing iron throughout the set range .....

Absolutely love the 223's.

I wish Mizuno made a 3 iron though. I prefer a long iron over a hybrid.

There's a 3 iron in the 221 set, it's 21 degrees. The 223 4 iron is 22 degrees, basically the same when you consider the cavity.
