I can only comment on the sets I have actually played. There are a lot out there and I've probably owned ten sets of mizzys

1. MP4 - my all time favorite iron they've made - probably the least talked about too.

2. Mizuno MP 64 - Just so good. Basically a blade with just a touch of extra help.

3. I don't do the distance iron thing. so I can't say

4. Overall MP4. They felt incredible

1. Players- really all I’ve played since 2008.  Overall favorite for me is the MP-5, I’m still gaming mine.  The MP-68s that I had before the 5s were also great.

Others of note:

I had a brief experiment with the MX-300s for 6 months and really loved the look and feel but the turf interaction wasn’t what I wanted so I went back to the MP-68s.

T-Zoid Pro lived in my bag from 98 to 2008 and I loved this set, small players cavity with plenty of meat behind the sweet spot and great turf interaction.

MP-30 was a 3 month disaster in 2007/8 if I remember correctly, felt terrible.

The MP-18s felt terrible, never considered this generation.  The MP-20 and 221s look to be Mizuno’s transition to more friendly blade designs and they just look off to me.  They feel great, but something just doesn’t look right to me at address.  Turf interaction is still top notch.

FOR ME, best overall is the MP-5.  I’d give these the nod over the 68s because if I’m a little off, I can still get away with it to some extent.

I've certainly not played a whole lot of Mizuno's, but when I played a lot more than I do now I sure did love the MP-32's.

Got bored and since I have a handful of sets listed, I did a compare/contrast. I tried  to get an eye level angle view of address setup. Can't stand a lot of address photos that make it hard to see what the club head actual sets up like. I threw in a zx7 for fun. Just got them, not sold on the v sole yet. Irons listed. Mp14, mp69, mp5, 919 tour, zx7.

Just got back from the range and took those irons listed for fun. except had to use an mp69 6 iron, the 7 iron wasn't glued up.

I know this isn't at all what the op intended lol and a review no one asked for lol..

FEEL: very subjective like we all know.

#1 Mp14. I don't know if the 14s have a copper layer but the feel is unreal, by far the best feeling mizunos/club I've ever hit.

#2 zx7, I know, they shocked me when I first hit them months ago, super soft feel like everyone knows who's hit them.

#3 919 tour, just a solid club and soft feel that I didn't expect when I first hit them.

#4 mp69, probably the cleanest looking of the bunch, but they have always felt "hard" to me.

#5 Mp5, I really always want to like 5s, they are larger and more forgiving and look good, just wish they felt softer. If these felt softer like the 14s, then I would play them all day everyday.

For tournament golf, I'd still play mp14s. I might carry a zx7 3 iron as a utility iron. I would dare think about 4/5 iron 919 tour. But no brainer mp14 6-pw. Lofts/gapping would be tough on a combo with new vs old school lofts.

Side note that no one asked for, that Nippon modus 130 shaft is pretty sweet, it just wants to go straight, high, long and low spin. Had it in a 919 tour, fun shaft.

I will stop thread hijacking and apologize to the op for getting sidetracked.

I have been playing a set of mp53 and love the feel and turf interaction. I built a set of mp54 with some Nippon 950gh stiff soft stepped (was fit for nippon shafts)am putting them through some testing…like them both and they both feel better than any other irons I have built or played. I would not normally  be fit into this type of iron…interestingly I have not scored notably worse on average with these than with game Improvement irons..so I defer to traditional lofts and control, turf interaction, feel, and looks if the outcomes are similar..all fun stuff.

MP64's were some of my favorites. Currently playing the MP20's and really like them

The 18's were some of the worst feeling mizuno's I can recall. Absolutely hated them

Dang, sure would help to know what kind of player is “needed” for these choices. It makes sense the most popular answers are from the top 10% players. 😉

Maybe more meaningful for player categories vs. iron categories…

1. I’m a bad @ss and can strike a ball with kitchen knife.

2. I win the club championship and you hate me for it… and I take your money.
3. I enjoy range time, my friends like me in scrambles.
4. I’m none of the above.

Maybe it's just the camera playing tricks but the MP-14 top line looks a lot thicker than I was expecting.

It's not the camera angle, if you look at my reply on the first page, you'll see why I like the mp14 so much and I mentioned "no crazy thin top line." lol.. I do not understand how folks want a razor thin top line and zero offset? Rickie Fowler tried his hand with that mindset and it didn't go well. A little bit of offset, not a super thin top line, its just a great all around club that doesn't look like a dang razor blade.

1. MP-18 - got to be one of the best looking blades ever made and as soft as any other Mizuno blade (thanks Turbo!).

2. 225's - in a low key way, these irons are filling bags at my course. Easy to hit, long, and Mizuno good looking.

3. Hot Metal Pro's - 919 and 921's have got to be one of the best in class for players looking for the perfect combination of forgiveness, feel, and easy on the eyes at address.

4. MP-32's - have stood the test of time.  Can be gamed by the best players, but also played well by the novice.  Has an excellent combination of feel, forgivness, and...bounce (width of sole) that allows the average player to gain confidence with Mizuno "blades".  Still see these as well on the range where I play.

My 2 cents...

Ok I remember someone saying that, but I didn't go back to put two and two together.  Different strokes for different folks.  They are Mizuno blades, so either way they are in the pointy end of golf clubs.  They were before I started playing so pics are all I've ever seen of them.

The three old sets of Mizunos I still have kicking around are the MP33, the MP32, and the Comp EZs. I don't have to say much about the first two, but man, were (and still are) the Comp EZs special. Larger head but thin sole, modest offset, and Mizuno feel... I see some of the other posts asking about forgiving irons for pickers, and I would argue that these would still be a great choice.

The Comp EZ were my very first irons I bought (second hand) in 2001, and I still use them today. Unfortunately, my 8 iron was stolen from my bag recently, so I am still trying to find a single iron on the web. But this made me think to maybe replace the entire set (or half of it) with something more recent ...

mp53 are the GOAT

... which brings me to the MP-53. Although I do not have the level to play real blades, the MP-53 seem to be the most forgiving of all the MP's, and could be played by a 15hcp like myself.

Alternatively, I was thinking about buying 7-PW in MP-53 (I found such a half-set on eBay), and keeping 4-6 of the Comp-EZ in my bag.

What would you think of such set-up ?

(I would also replace all shafts of both the Comp EZ and the MP-53 to something more recent, e.g. the NS 950GH R or Modus3 105 R)
