FootJoy Premier Fit

I got a pair of the packards in a 10.5. There’s a bit of heel slippage when walking in them.

Then I got a pair in a 10. No heel slippage but I’m slightly concerned with the fit in the toe box.  It’s not uncomfortable standing in them or walking in them right now but I’m thinking about over the course of 5 hours especially walking.

So my question is, do I stuff an insole in the 10.5 for a snugger fit, do I stick with the 10s and let them break in/expand, or are the premiers just not for me?

Heel grips can buy cheap stick on ones off Amazon or find a local shoe cobbler and they may have some nicer leather ones they could glue on.

I spoke with a person from FJ today. He told me the newer styles fit 1/2 size larger and 1/2 width more narrow than their previous years shoes.

Possibly the most frustrating thing about clothing and shoes. Why can a shoe fit the same from mfg to mfg? You are trying to spend money and it's a dissatisfying experience.

Makes too much sense.. Granted not everyone’s foot is the same, but at least make the size measurement universal.

It's been extremely frustrating to find sizes to try in store, it seems to be my normal size but in regular not wide, or wide and a size up, or a size down and normal or even narrow. I did find an 11.5W but it felt just a hair too loose in the heel and I haven't been able to find an 11W. I didn't want to order from FJ just to try on several pairs as well. So set up some eBay search notifications and a pair of 11W Field's came up, not my preferred options as they are spikeless but the price was right. So waiting for them to arrive from eBay, hopefully they are a good fit, the leather is soft enough they could break in well if not find them a new home or just keep them for range days.

Will update on the 11W's when I get them in.

I had the same fit issues with the Premier's.  Based on past experiences, I don't attempt to make shoes with heel slippage work.  I sized down thinking the toe box would stretch but it hasn't stretched as much as I had hoped and they're still a little cramped.  It's unfortunate because I like the style and build of the shoe.  I moved on to wearing Traditions as my primary shoes because, while not as high quality and solid, the fit is much much better for me.  They are supposed to have the same 'last' (fit) but I have zero heel slippage and noticeably more room in the toe box.

I've worn Footjoys for years.  One of the joys of wearing them, for me, is that they are a perfect fit, starting with the first round.  For some bizarre reason (hoarder?) I have my last seven pair on a shelf in the basement.  Maybe it's for the shoelaces...

The key to a successful shoe relationship is having the right fit right out of the box!

I have finally broken in my Premiere’s and had to deal with both heel slippage and toe box snugness.  Good news is they did break in and are now the “glove” I wanted on my foot.  I dealt with the heel slippage by tying the laces quite tight and double knotting them.  I also used a shoe stretcher to get them juuuuust a bit wider.  Right now I am very pleased with them.  However; my Tour X’s are coming with me to Sand Valley on Monday morning as backup….lol.

FJ has pulled a “new Coke” with the sizing of the 2022 shoes. One thing you could always count on in the past with FJ is if you were a 9 in the past years, you were a 9 in the new models. Not only has the sizing changed, but the widths are different too. It’s obvious they aren’t using the same lasts that they have used in the past. The name of the last might be the same, but the fit definitely isn’t.

A few months ago I posted a picture of my Premieres with an extra eyelet added by a shoe shop.  That fixes most of the heel slippage.

Have that pic by chance or link to said post?

I find that the Premiers run sliiiightly narrow. Mine fit perfectly everywhere except they are just a tad tight on my pinky toes. Have not tried the wide.

I have had no heel slippage in the Premiers once I played a couple rounds in them, but plenty heel slippage in other shoes in general.

It does thanks, if the 11W's don't fit I'll opt for the 11.5W and add that modification.

I found that they run slightly narrow as well, only on the pinky toe. I tried on the wide and they were too loose. I have a shoe stretcher that I got from Amazon years back and and after a few days in there they are perfect.

How snug are we talking when you first got them?  Mine feel like they hug my pink toes ever so slightly more than I might prefer.  I've had leather chelsea boots with this same feel and wound up getting some blisters/hard blistering whatever they're called on the pinky toe of one of my feet and it was quite uncomfortable to wear them.  If my feet are swollen, I can't wear them because it hurts after a while.  I want to avoid that.  The premiers seem to be a more supple, thinner leather though...

I have the same feeling.  Great fit everywhere, but they hug my pinky toes just a little bit more than what I think I'd want.

Have they stretched at all with wear for you?  Does it become painful at all during a round?

They have wore in as expected, just like the Icons. No, I have zero pain in the Premiers. They just press slightly on the pinky toes. After I get them on and get on with my round, I hardly notice. I do think FJ need to address it tho, they just need a slightly wider toe area. I’m talking 5-10mm’s…

I fall in the too big or too wide group. Can’t find a size that fits. Really hoping something changes as others have said they have because they are the best looking shoe on the market. I have been wearing ProSL carbons but the 2022 version of those irritate my heel when walking vs the previous model.

Does anyone know which are the “newer” styles with the updated sizing?

What's frustrating is, if the tarlows and packards fit like the fields do, it wouldn't be an issue at all. The field has a slightly wider feel to them (I'm guessing because of the lacing), but they are so much more comfortable and wearable. I didn't notice how tight my tarlows fit until I got the field, and I haven't worn them since. Which actually kind of stinks because I prefer the look of the tarlow above the rest.

I found the Tarlow to be too tight in M and way too wide in Wide. I haven’t messed around much with the Packards and fields. Do they fit different?

I would say "snug" initial fit in the forefoot.  Nothing a few days on a shoe stretcher couldn't fix.

I did just return from walking 72 holes in 2 days at Sand Valley in my Premiers.  I am happy to say (unlike last year) I have zero blisters.

Good to know. I have B-width feet, I tend to wear shoes from Nike and Adidas. These companies started out making running shoes and have a medium that's a bit narrower than other golf shoes.
