L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 MAX Putter

Looking for someone to post review of the MAX version of the LAB putter?

 

Is it more stable than the regular Mezz 1?

 

Did you get the standard version of MAX instead of the heavier version?

 

Is the sound and feel different than the regular Mezz1?

 

How come no online stores are carrying the MAX version? Would help LAB sales so more people could try the MAX version.

I would imagine not many.  There are very few places to demo these. Hard enough to find the regular Mezz. Then factor in a larger oddly shaped putter. 

 

I would imagine not many on these forums own one.

Ironically, it will likely take a while, since these are quite expensive. Most of the people who would like the Mezz.1 Max already have the DF 2.1 or the Mezz already. I am in that position. I use the DF 2.1, and I would have probably thought very hard about the Mezz.1 Max because you can order a heavier head (which is what I was used to). Now, I have become comfortable with the weight of the DF 2.1. 

I would have absolutely bought the Mezz.1 Max for my wife, since she didn't like the look of the DF 2.1. I would have assumed that the Max has more of the characteristics of the DF 2.1. Unfortunately, she has already become comfortable with the Mezz.1.

Both putters cost about $850. So everyone who is like me and would have considered the Max would have to get comfortable shelling out another similar number and hope that we can sell our current putters (which we like) just to try. Not going to happen for at least another year. So it will take a little time.

Was considering Mezz vs Mezz Max. At the end, went for Mezz purely because I prefer the look of the more compact head. 

 

I wouldn't think there will be massive difference in performance, maybe just slightly.

I think the problem is likely that nobody has both, so nobody can make the sort of comparison that you're asking for.  Having both of them would be a pretty massive expenditure.

 

I have a Mezz XL broomstick, which is, I think, the same thing as the Max.  FWIW, I like it a LOT less than the DF 2.1.  And believe me, I really, REALLY wanted to like the Mezz, just because it looks a little more "normal" than the DF.  But FOR ME, it was much harsher, and much less forgiving than the DF.  The LAB technology is equally valid, but I just could not get to where I liked it as much.

I have a Mezz1 and ordered a Mezz Max Armlock hopefully soon (I’m on week 5 of waiting). Will post thoughts once I’ve played with the Max for a bit.

I have the Mezz, and considered buying the Max for alittle more forgiveness, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money, site unseen, for what is likely a very minor upgrade, that I may not like because of it's size (since I can't demo it anywhere to see if the size increase would be a problem for me).

The lead time for these is 6-8 weeks, so based on the release time a lot of people are probably still waiting.

 

I ordered one and am now 6 weeks in, I'll be sure to post my thoughts once I receive it. I have a Mezz.1 and love it, figured I would squeeze a little extra MOI/stability out of it if I can.

7 weeks to the day, here it is. It's actually pretty close to the Mezz.1 looking down at it, but you can see it's a hair wider.

They are pretty similar feel-wise, I have the LA Golf shaft in my MAX, and I would agree that it's a bit softer than the Accra. That's the main difference I could tell in my first round with it. I played really difficult, undulating greens and my distance control was pretty spot on. Looking forward to dropping a bunch when I play my normal muni.

 

edited to clarify: the impact feeling is softer, the shaft itself is actually stiffer I believe.

Not sure but standard was way too light for me personally. I felt like I “lost” the putter head in the backswing. I added a bunch of lead tape and sent it back to LAB for more weight and rebalancing.

I have the Max in armlock, which is an experiment for me. I do not change putters regularly; last putter was an OG TM Spider.

 

The Mezz sounds like crap IMHO but supposedly their newest production run has resolved that issue. The performance is EXCELLENT. It's staying in my bag.

You should buy the mezz...test against the gamer, then choose.

Just got the regular mezz...and love it.  First putter that stays square...in 45 years of golf.  Anyone see Charles Howell in Bangkok final round?  Did he have a new LAB blade?  Kinda looked liked it.

Well I just pulled the trigger on a Mezz Max, to compare to my Mezz putter.  It says 6-8 weeks delivery time.

 

Interesting that I redid the online lie angle fitting, and they recommended 65 degree lie angle this time, compared with 67 degrees last time.  I don't think my hand position or shaft angle has changed, but maybe I am wrong.

I went with the LAGP shaft again.  I have it in my Mezz and love it.  I hate to spend that kind of money on a shaft, but if I really want to compare apples to apples, I couldn't put a different shaft in it.  They measured me at 65 degree lie angle, via the remote fitting process, which is 2 degrees flatter than last time they measured me.  Curious to see if this works better.

I didn't even go through the remote fitting again I just ordered the same length and lie as my Mezz.  I did the Accra shaft because that's what I have in my Mezz and wanted it to be consistent.  The only thing I did differently was to select the heavier option, I have always used very heavy putters in the past and that was something that I felt was missing on the Mezz.  Figured I would give it a shot and if I don't like it I can always get it reweighted.

These both really look cool. The Max isn't nearly as big as I suspected it would be. 

I've been bouncing between a Mizuno M Craft V and an Evnroll ER1v, but I keep seeing ads/posts about these and am very intrigued by them.

Awesome thanks, I went with the stock steel shaft as that is what I messed around with in store on a standard MEZZ. Be interested to see how much I like it in steel. If I love it I will probably order a custom with the ACCRA to compare against (or keep an eye out on the outlet for my specs)
