Some movement vs still before the swing starts

You see both types on tour. Guys that are constantly moving before the takeaway (DJ comes to mind) and guys that are very still (robotic like Horschel). When I’m still, I tend to get in my heels to start and swing becomes flat. When I am moving, I get a nice takeaway/backswing and a subsequent downswing.

 

Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on having some movement vs being still before starting the swing.

Last 6 months I have more movement prior to my take away. Somehow, I have this thing where I tap club on the ground a couple times and it triggers my back swing. Keeps me loose and more fluid. Been working well for me. 
 

Being still for years it has caused me to get tense.

I'll bounce the clubhead off the ground with a slight waggle with the driver.  This allows me to take my backswing faster and looser. If I start static I swing too slow and stiff. 

 

Same goes for irons and hybrids but it's just a slight waggle, no bouncing off the ground. Again, if I'm static everything is too slow.

 

Speeding up my backswing allows me to match my fast transition.  Too slow of a backswing and the transition is too fast to match.

Agree. Even with putting I’ll bounce the putter head a couple times before going. 
 

I know Dana Dahlquist has made some posts about this. Much more athletic

I play with this guy who's pretty athletic and he bounces the club a couple of times, even with the putter.  He took up golf as an adult but he is a solid player and the trigger seems so natural in his swing.

 

I waggle the club, especially with my irons.

Depends.  My best feel is pretty static.  Sort of like Xander S.   Some hand movement getting the right feel in the grip, but that’s it.  For some reason if I’m dancing around before taking it back it makes for a steeper backswing .  I prefer the feel of extended arms and a wide takeaway.

How do you "thumpers" (bounce the club up and down) play a bunker shot?

Motion offsets tension.  This is why previous generations of tour players were always in motion with a waggle, foot shuffle or combination.  This was taught more frequently for decades, Hogan even dedicating pages in his book to the waggle.  
I think it takes a very talented athlete to start from a static position successfully and consistently.

I'm constantly moving, twitching my body, waggle....... BUT with the driver, I sometimes find myself very static and I don't get the same results when I be stepping/waggling.
