2023 Golf Resolutions/Goals

Mine is similar to @Mcfly's goal. Last season I started with a hernia repair in April, so I got a late start. I still managed about 80 rounds, but I never felt "entirely right" the whole time. I'd like to get back to playing golf without limitations or issues.

Got a good start to this season so far, as I just got back from a boys trip to Florida. Got to play some great courses down there including Gleneagles, Mizner, and Seagate. Unfortunately, the first two rounds were still marred by some hernia-repair-related pain.

I've never set any New Year resolutions, but I do have some objectives for my golf this year:

- Take some lessons again. It's been a few years and I'm due - especially for my approach shots. I don't necessarily want to take lessons all season long, but definitely more than one or two.

- Practice more regularly. Last year was tough for practice because although I am newly retired, I had some other major time commitments that prevented regular practice.

- Play in a few local tournaments - gross score only. I have no delusions I can truly compete against the scratch and better tier players, but I just don't find much interest in net/handicapped events. From my background in other sports, there's nothing that can force improvement better than playing straight up against much better players.

I am specifically NOT setting numerical target goals - e.g. improving my handicap by x strokes, or breaking par y times. I just want to learn and enjoy the improvement process.

Great topic here.  Goals for 2023 would be to qualify for match play at the Michigan Am, qualify for the GAM championship, and qualify for the GAM golf days championship.  Overall my predominant goal is to continue developing my overall game and ability to score which would lead to these goals accomplished no problem.  Then build on possibly USGA events next year and beyond.

I'm hitting plenty of fairways with the driver. It is the short game that keeps taking LOA on me!! My big goal is to be more consistent and start breaking 80 again. Today was very close, 43 and 38, so that shows a lot of promise right now. I am also working on getting this old body (66) back in form. I am hitting the gym now, more than ever since retiring. I had to get off that couch immediately or lose it altogether. My masseuse advised me on some exercises that would help with shoulder strength.

Im getting older and older every year, and feeling like the game is becoming tougher physically on my body, and also with work too to find quality practice time.

Im 0.9 index now, and if i can end the year as a 0.9 index again or better, I would be delighted.

For me, i view being off the same playing handicap at my home course by years end almost like "keeping my card", and ive managed to do that 3 years in a row at 0.9 so lets hope for another.

Spend some money on corrective lessons and try to get my short game back.  It went MIA mid season and the current GIR rate is horrendous for my driving accuracy.  Missing over 75% and chunking far too many.

Putting is close behind, but showing signs of life with practice time invested.

Lots of time at the range has me showing much better accuracy in approach game and around the greens.  Putting’s still hit/miss.  Some days are all long putts lagged to a foot, others are ”huh?”.  Have had some better scoring rounds as a result which feels good.

Just to be able to get around a course with limited lost balls, and reduce/eliminate stupid shots (skulls, skanks, chili dips, etc).

I'm coming off about an 8 year layoff from golf due to Work/Career pressure, and being the caregiver for my (now deceased) sickly mother.  Just got through a new clubfitting, and taking lessons again, so just hoping for the best.  I'll never probably be at my peak (8 handicap) again, but would like to enjoy getting out on the course and playing a round without shame.

Hey All,

I am looking for a "workout buddy" to hold each other accountable to our 2023 goals. Obviously, I don't mean someone who can be physically present, but someone to message back and forth and work through our goals together while dealing with the disruptions of day-to-day life.

Having a background in team sports - I love the idea of working through goals in tandem, but also love the shroud of the internet because it allows people to be transparent and honest with each other. I am competitive and loyal by nature so having a person, I am "letting down" and/or is "beating me" is the appeal for me. Having said that, setting goals for myself outside of career, relationship and fatherhood is a little foreign. This is something to help me (and you) stick to it.

If this is something that interests you, shoot me an IM.

1. Continue (as I've been working all winter) to hone my backswing, transition, and weight shift. I have made major steps in this area already, but it is not yet second nature.

2. Work on the mental game. It is a game, and I have to remember that.

3. Focus on quality, not quantity.

4. Try to find and spend time with players that are better than I am.

5. Use my time for practice more effectively.

Comeback golfer here from Long Island. Been playing the best golf of my life at 16.9 handicap, won 2 tournaments a year in my golf league the past 2 years and my goals include the following:

1.) I'd like to continue the streak this season - Notch another 2 wins or better again this year.

2.) Win on the other golf league for the first time.

3.) Improve putting to max out at 31 putts or better per round.

4.) Improve chipping to be more consistent and lower mishits to a max of 2 per round.

5.) Drive the ball an average of 240 yds. and hit fairway at least 50% or better per round.

6.) Hit at least 50% of GIR or better per round.

7.) Achieve at least 40% scrambling success or better per round.

Here is what I have on my phone:

  • Get to single digit handicap - currently 15.4
  • Break 80 - Best is 84
  • Play 50 rounds - played 13 last year
  • Be under par for 9 holes - Best was +1
  • Walk 50% of rounds

Then have some other more location specific goals, but that's just main focus, just play better. Been working with a coach and working on myself and outlook is good.
