In the 40s and sunny today.  Couldn't wait any longer to get these outside for 6 holes!  They look really, really good.  Driver was going straight and far and was hitting 2 balls on every hole.  Driver on 3 holes, both balls within 10 yards of each other on each hole.  Really enjoyed my first time out with the irons as well.  They feel great, and even catching a couple thin they flew within a few yards of a center strike.  Here are some bag pictures and some comparisons to my now old clubs.

Clubs look fantastic.  Did they set up up with a new putter?  If so what did you end up going with.

Yes sounds like putter should be here in a week or so.  I was fit for the Juno head with long neck and site dot.  Really excited for it as I got great numbers and consistency with it in their lab.  Still slightly jealous of the other guys that are getting the new Spider though

How were they not what you expected? Did they change it up on you between fitting and delivery?

Yeah, very minor change the 5w shaft went from a 9X to the 8X. I think the 9X is nearly tour only and VERY difficult to "just get" - it's not even offered on the TM custom build part of their website.

One last nice(ish 43*) day before another winter storm, had to take the new toy out for a spin.  Just took the wrapper off at the course!  Brought my m5 to compare.  It was kind of laughable how much you can change ball flight on this thing.  Only played a few holes but just moving the weight forward gave a noticeable difference in spin and ball flight.  Can’t wait for spring time to get some more outside time with it

*This is a cross post from the Equipment forums, so stick around for some fun stories, a few laughs, and a more detailed review of the fitting process and my thoughts on the clubs so far*
 

As some of you may know, a lucky few of us WRX’rs were selected for quite literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit TaylorMade HQ and The Kingsom in Carlsbad, CA. It’s been a little while since our excursion to the West Coast, but the I’s are dotted, the T’s are crossed, and the most importantly, the clubs are in!
 

 I’ll go more into depth about the fitting and follow up on the trip, but this one is all about the goods! 
 

We’ve had quite a bit of rain down south in Alabama for the last two months, so even though it’s been warm, I haven’t had as many opportunities to play as I would have liked. That being said, I’ve squeezed in a few rounds in the last two weeks, and with the putter finally being released at the end of March, the full bag is finally in order. 
 

Anyway, enough chatter, let’s get down to business. Huge thank you to Perry Dickey, Duane Anderson, and the rest of the fitting crew at The Kingdom! They put together an amazing set of sticks for me. Also, we can’t forget about Brian Knudson, Mike Esse and Ryan Lauder for wrangling this group of guys and giving us a week we’ll never forget. 
 

 

 

Driver : Stealth 2 Plus 9*, Ventus Red 6x

To those of you who hit the Stealth 2 vs Stealth 2+, did the + models feel hotter off of the face? The Stealth and now Stealth 2 (non +) feel a little firm to my liking. They don't quite have that pop and feel I like.

Which driver are you coming from?  For me, it is just a completely different feel than my TSi3 and I can relate to that feeling you have, but after a few rounds I can now say it is the sound that was throwing me and giving that feel.  It feels normal to me now though. 

 

I absolutely loved the TSi3 and honestly didn't think I'd switch out of it prior to this.  I am glad that I did.  Hitting low spin ropes and finding a lot of fairways, even on misses and I've had a few people ask me what I was talking about when I was disgusted with a strike and seeing where it ended up

Custom Juno looking so so good!  Sometimes wish I got the GT Max like the others, but then I look at the classic looking blade and get over it pretty quick.  I changed my mind about 4 different times on which finish to go with on the putter head and initially settled on black head, black shaft.  Luckily by the time I decided on silver it wasn't built yet so Mike was able to change it just in time for me.  I absolutely love the black shaft and silver head contrast and am glad I switched it last minute.  I am now 2.5 rounds in to my full bag and the full rounds are 72, 75.  Have noticed an easier and comfortable stroke with the long neck and the less toe hang than I'm used to.  Putting is a strong suit and still already had comments from playing partners complaining that everything has been fit for me after making some big putts.  The feel is a lot different than I'm used to--fully milled vs this insert.  It gets the ball rolling right away, but just a different feel that I need to get used to.  The head covers that come with these are super high quality as well.  Very impressed with the MyTP custom putters and would definitely recommend!

Side note, any one know where to get weights for this if I ever wanted to play around?  Haven't seen these ones before

Ah-ok.  Same question, curious which club you’re comparing them to.  Coming from m5 3 wood, I thought it was pretty similar, and ball was coming off a touch faster according to TrackMan.  Versus the regular stealth 2, I perceived I was hitting rockets with the more penetrating flight and lower spin.  Definitely didn’t feel like it was lacking pop to me

I haven’t noticed any lack of “pop” from either of the + model fairways. I haven’t hit the standard version of either. Personally, I think they did a lot of great things with the S2+ AND managed to maintain a great feel at impact. I’m pretty particular when it comes to fairway woods, but I have a hard time finding any issues at all with this one. Just an all around performer.

I hit the + model hybrid for a long time during the fitting… I’m typically a hybrid player in that spot between 3w and 4i, and historically speaking, I haven’t always been great with a DI. That’s probably why I spent so much time between those two, but went with the DI in the end. It launched a little lower and carry was similar, but I felt more consistent with the UDI. 
 

I didn’t have any performance issues with the + hybrid, but it was a little different, aesthetically speaking, than what I was used to. Most of my hybrids have been more “iron-like”, for lack of a better word. Higher, more squared toe, more mass towards the toe, flatter sole, etc. 

 

The carbon (?) texture on the crown was a little distracting at address, but the club felt great. Numbers were solid. It just wasn’t my cup of tea though. If you like a more modern, aggressive hybrid design, I suspect you will enjoy this one.

Hey all,

 

So I’m in Scotland for golf this week. Packed my stuff, arrived and… nothing. Neither my clubs nor “stuff” arrived. It went to Poland for no good reason. So I rented clubs Monday at Crail and played both courses. It was so cold that the rain turned to hail. That finally stopped and it was blowing so hard that everything dried out by the time we finished.

 

Next day I drove up to NE Scotland and played this incredible course called Cruden Bay. Oh wow, what a special place! Rentals again. So that’s a bummer.

 

Still no word from the airline. All my stuff is just sitting there at the Edinburg airport. I finally bought socks and underwear as it didn’t arrive today. 
 

So what I thought was going to be a super cool review of all the stuff I was fit for at TM is now nothing. I’m so completely disappointed. Definitely use ship sticks or something if you do a trip like this.
