Experience post!

I will start by saying I still can’t believe I got to experience this.  It is something that I can't even say was on my bucket list because I didn't think it was even possible.  It was just so cool that they were genuinely happy to have us even though we are just a bunch of golf nerds on a forum, but they’re self-admitted golf nerds too which is part of why they enjoyed having us.  It wasn’t just a presentation to big box retailers, they were happy to talk golf and tell us about the technology advances they made for this year’s gear and give us some engineering insight for why they make certain decisions because they know we genuinely care and are interested, it wasn't just your typical sales pitch.  I’ll split my recap into two different parts—one for the awesome presentation and tour of HQ, and the second for my fitting.

A little about me for some context—I’m from WNY, and I found WRX shortly after I started playing golf roughly 10 years ago and was hooked.  Like many others here, I’ve spent time in every forum section on the site and have gotten tons of information on here when purchasing new gear.  Leading up to the trip, literally 2 days after being told I was invited, we ended up with 4.5 feet of snow and stuck in the house for a few days straight during Christmas.  If that wasn’t enough, the two golf domes where we can go to hit balls during the winter blew away from the high winds during the storm, so basically I’m getting ball striking excuses out of the way now for the club fitting post.

The view from our hotel lobby:

We started our trek to HQ and upon arrival, we saw that the new Stealth 2 graphic was already up on the building, a day before the official launch.  Of course, we couldn’t post it yet but that made it even more cool to see.  Entering the lobby and getting checked in, we checked out all of the replica staff bags filled with TW, Morikawa, Rory, and Scheffler clubs. This is where we met Tyler from the content creation team.

Once we dropped off our clubs in the conference room for presentations, we walked around HQ through the hall of champions and a history wall full of Taylormade clubs old and new (and where you'll see in one of the videos, Mike at Taylormade brought us each a goodie bag with a bunch of swag), past the putter studio as well as seeing where some Tour clubs were made, then headed upstairs to see the various departments, including the sweet looking Vault door where all of the ideas are conceptualized!   We then went with Tyler and met his content team, which has grown pretty significantly recently and is the group behind all of the cool videos they put out, like the Christmas caroling and the cool competition videos they have with the tour pros.  We saw an amazing video they put together from the tour player shoot that wasn’t a final cut, but I’m excited to see the videos they will release over the next several months.  It just made me want to go hit balls and play.

We got to hear a little about the content crew's philosophy and things they work on/are working on, and it was very interesting to hear them talk about not just trying to market by saying their clubs are the best out there or anything like that, they more so want to create a lifestyle behind the brand that you can be a part of, so that when you are looking for new clubs or apparel, you’ll at least consider them when you walk into the store or are testing clubs.  It is all really well done and a great team that gets to have some fun with the content.

We then got to sit and chat through a few presentations, one with Tomo from product creation on woods, one with Chandler on irons, and one with Bill on putters.  It was so cool to hear their passion for golf clubs and they are incredibly smart--exactly the kind of people you'd want building your clubs and answering questions.  They really are one of us!  We asked a bunch of questions from color choices, to impact of one setting vs another, to why they make some decisions vs others, such as names, which can apparently get heated!  A few of my takeaways that may answer a few questions here, and I know I’m going to have to add to this as more things come back to me in the middle of the night when I’m still thinking about this trip:

1.     The gloss black color vs matte—the gloss finger prints are better than matte interestingly, and they received a lot of comments from caddies who have to wipe the clubs down all the time.  They took a lot of feedback from players and the consensus was the gloss was better received.  Morikawa for one was love at first sight with it.

2.     The version 2 of the Stealth 2 on the conforming list is simply just the head without the alignment aid.  If someone was using the driver without the aid, it needed its own entry in the usga list. Sorry for those out there that were hoping for a smaller head!

3.     The red ring that is visible at address on the Stealth core driver model and HD, vs the Stealth 2 Plus head.  Several of the tour players actually liked the outer red ring visible at address, but the idea with the Plus head was more of a better/tour player’s preferred look, as well as the slimming factor of all black.  And it does make a difference.  I do really like the red ring look too

4.     The flexibility of the Stealth 2 Plus 3 wood could answer a lot of concerns for people wanting a strong 3 wood, and also a 16.5* head for easy launch.  Now you can have multiple purposes maybe for different courses or different weather with one club!

5.     The advances in speed foam in the P770s and P790s are significant due to the material's weight reductions enabling further advances.

6.     Every head covered club we saw sat impressively square, from woods to hybrids.  There was nothing that you looked down at and thought it looked draw biased.  If you didn't know better, you wouldn't know you were looking down at the HD head vs regular Stealth 2.

All three of the presentations were great and a lot of information to digest.  Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on the woods and irons, and maybe an unannounced item due in a couple weeks that I think is awesome and a lot of of WRX'ers will like.

I can’t thank WRX enough for picking me to go on this once in a lifetime trip.  It was great meeting Brian K and we all enjoyed talking about golf, golf equipment, and getting to know someone behind WRX.  We had a great group of enthusiasts.  Also can’t thank the Taylormade guys enough for putting this on, treating us like royalty and putting up with our “kid in a candy store” mindset.  Ryan Lauder at Taylormade is one of the best there is.  Super nice, excited to have us, and wanted nothing more than for us to have the best time we possibly could.  While we only had time for a very small percentage of his stories, you could tell the guy could write a book with his experience and I hope one day that he does!  It was awesome to get a sense of the company behind the scenes to see what they were really about.  It was an experience I will be talking about for a long, long time.  Happy to answer any and all questions that I can in here!

Oh and one last picture because it will always be insanely cool to see my bag next to a Tiger bag and locker.  This will be going up in the office!

Very good recap man. I won’t lie. My jealousy meter is on full tilt haha. But, you guys have been representing golfwrx very well and they picked a solid group of guys to experience it. It’s been a fun follow.

Love the pics and the inside info on the little things we can take for granted. Really looking forward to the fitting recap.

I can’t remember the second top pro but Tiger Woods was one of the two they mentioned liking the red ring on the driver at address. I think it looks good both ways.

On a somewhat related note, was there any mention of the standard and HD versions being available in the customs program?

IMG_9506.jpg.da41cb87b531f985ddaa80b947013324.jpg

Awesome recap.

Question, does the red ring that you mentioned help with seeing whether the face is square vs open or closed at address?  I'm sorry if I missed that somewhere in the thread.

I didn't think it did. Maybe made the head look a little smaller to my eye, but the red face meeting up with the black crown is where I notice an open or closed face.  Thankfully they all look very square in the neutral setting. The fairways have a sole designed to sit square sitting on the ground.

Not sure I recall whether it helped frame the ball but it accentuated the shape which I suppose could help with alignment in a way.  It's a cool look

I use to be as anti TM as one could be. I’ve caved since the OG SIM line, that’s where our son convinced me to get on board. I’ve been a fan of the woods since and even bigger fan after reading and following this thread! It’s also hurt my back pocket. I’ve preordered the Stealth2 driver and the HD fairway wood. If the driver is as good as what I’m reading, I’ll be even more excited than I am already. Got the HD fairway instead of the standard version due to it being a tad larger in cc. I use mine primarily as a tee club.

IMG_9512.jpg.0ff11ffa672c942543e8827c4d545d58.jpg

IMG_9529.jpg.842fa7e93eae77b33c044c4c7468170e.jpg

I’ll admit I’ve liked TM quite a bit for quite some time. Started with the 200 steel and 300 series drivers, then the R5TP, Superquad TP, and they just never stop. I always try other stuff but keep coming back. I appreciate TM even more after meeting many TM staff and seeing how into golf and creating great product everyone is.

Our son is a diehard TM guy. Has been  for a long time, he will turn 28 in a few months. Eats, sleeps, and breaths  @TaylorMadeGolf

Man, appreciate the posts and write ups from y’all! Such an awesome experience, even with the rain-out, and remembering everything you want to share takes a lot of work and can’t be easy. Thanks!

TM has always made such great gear. Best driver I’ve ever played was the R7 425 TP.

Can’t wait to see a full WITB!

Got my R7 425 TP out of the loft the other day to compare with a Stealth plus. It was in my bag for years.

It held its own until I dialled-in the Stealth and switched from a Penta to PV 1.

So cool…thanks for the detailed recap and Huge Congrats again Kyle!!

This is the kind of recap I was hoping for…it gives us the opportunity to live vicariously through you guys and feel like we were there too!!

This is the second year in a row that @TaylorMade Golfhas been incredibly generous to us WRX junkies! I’ll never forget the incredible opportunity that TM gave myself and a few other WRX gear heads last year when we were given an amazing Stealth gift box before the release, and I’ll always appreciate them for that!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Shoutout to TM for showing us at WRX love and Congrats again to all the winners this year!

I saw a lot of those paint cans on desks and wondered what they were. Is that a Sunday bag in your box? Super cool!  I love a good Sunday bag.

Yeah, that box was part of the release of the Stealth “Carbonwood Era” promotion last year.

TM sent that box to VIP’s and influencers all over the world like Patrick Mahomes, Viktor Cruz, Pau Gasol, Deron Williams, every TM staffer’s close people, Golf IG personalities, Paige Spirignac etc.

@TaylorMade Golfwas also kind enough to select a few lowly WRX’rs like me to get the box also, and I’ll never forget it!

It came with a Stealth Plus Driver, a custom leather TM Sunday bag, a leather TM yardage book, and then inside the paint can there were a bunch of other cool TM goodies like custom Stealth ball markers and a Stealth divot tool.

So cool that TM is showing love and giving back to gearheads like us these past 2yrs….great way to share in all their success and show appreciation to the “little people” that helped them get to where they are, and to promote their new products as well.

Very nice & congrats BN 👍🎉🎄

Seem like WRXers are better treated by TM than other OEMs. Good to see...

I posted the weather forecast above and while it's been POURING rain all week up here in the PNW, I was able to play 9 holes before the Seahawks playoff game today with my father and a couple of golf buddies. It's a fun 9 hole course but has 5 holes with opportunity to hit driver. The first driver hole has OB on BOTH sides!

Started out around 45* and warmed up to low 50s by the end of the round and SUN!!!!!  Course plays pretty dry but you still can plug a drive here and there and the roll out isn't much.

I had a little trouble getting the club face closed the first two drives but the ball still got out there pretty good. The last 3 drives were really good (and I moved the weight to full draw weighting!). One of them was 297... in the winter, on a wet course. I'm really liking the possibilities for this season!

We only have the driver from the trip so that's all I have for you, except I still love my 300 Forged irons and TW MG3 wedges. Enjoy the pics if you are somewhere frozen.
