Heck if I am talking Styx, and then posted some REO, why not make it a triple play of solid rock from the 70's.

Well heck, I saw the Doobies and Steely Dan a few years ago.  I took the Mrs to Styx years ago.  Maybe 15-18 years ago.  They did the rocking guitar players in unison and as an ill spent youth guy listening to the dead I thought it was a joke.  The Mrs assured me it was real.

So the Mrs and I are on our honeymoon.  We go to a bar in Turks and Caicos.  Sitting outside and we are smoking a cigar and who is across the bar?  Niles Rodgers.

Dude is all over the Grammys.

I said after eye contact, “Hi Niles.”  He said hi back.  The Mrs says, and I s hit you not, “Who is that? Do you know him?”

What’s everybody’s favorite genre of music?  Mine is country.

... Let me preface by saying I think the more music you like the better so good for you Fish. It is audio art after all. Now that said, when I was a DJ my station went country and I felt like I was on a prison release program. Went to prison from 2 pm to 6 pm every Mon-Fri as well as doing about an hour of production work before or after my shift. I occasionally went on prison rehab assignment when I MC'ed concerts welcoming everyone for the station and intro'ed the band or artist and unlike the classic rock artists, didn't stick around for the concerts.

... What's funny is I grew up in the south playing rock music in NC and Georgia and found myself playing Country in Chicago. Took a full year to find another rock station and thankfully I worked with great people. When they went Country everyone was allowed to stay and look for another job so one by one everyone left, usually to another city but I was married to a Chicago girl with no interest in leaving.

... To be fair I think Country has changed quite a bit since the early 80's but I still bolt awake in the middle of the night once a year or so when I dream it's time to introduce Glenn Campbell and I am in the bathroom with no toilet paper.

That’s a great line up.  Did you see a bunch on the stations dime?

I would absolutely travel to see NIN.

... Back in the 70's and early 80's I probably went to 2 or 3 concerts every month. Chicago not only had Poplar Creek outdoor venue but some really big bands also played Alpine Valley just over the Wisconsin border and we had road trips with a bus. Interestingly my favorite band was the Eagles after Joe Walsh joined the band (although not most of the ballads) that were hits and for one reason or another I gave away my seats to friends because of other responsibilities on those dates, twice going on vacation to Florida. Then they broke up and I never got to see them. Finally got the chance about 4 years ago before I left Chicago for Phoenix and probably appreciated them more than when they were in their prime.

... Lots of insanely good shows but a few that really stood out was James Taylor the I thought was going t be an acoustic show but was balls to the walls a Rock/Blues show. Dire Straights that are really creative and different live. Hearts Dreamboat Annie tour with an 11 piece orchestra. And CSNY that managed to sound like their songs but with jams in the middle that really went off on some amazing tangents giving the audience the best of both worlds.

James Taylor rocking?  I bet that was fun.  We saw him (the Mrs and I) and it was acoustic and a little slow, but I love his music.  CSNY?!  Wow!  And Heart?  Those would be great.  I never did love the Eagles, but like you, the ballads weren’t my thing.  They are absolutely talented and song writers, and I really respect them, but…

Dire Straits?! Another one.  Must have been amazing.  Maybe the most underrated bands ever, IMO anyway.

Obviously buzzed guy is watching the Grammys.  The Mrs and I were flying to Miami years and years ago.  When we’re young.

MN to Miami, a bunch of inner city kids were on the plane and this mountain of a man was in the seat in front of me.  A freaking mountain.

A little kid taps me on the shoulder since the “mountain” was sleeping.

”Will you get me his autograph?  Are you his body guard?”

I had no idea who it was, and told the boy I didn’t know who it was and I was not his body guard.

”Dude, that’s the ROCK!”

I was once a drummer. The groove machine that made up Chic remains dear to me. I was a metal drummer, a student of Bonham & Pert, but Chic was the bomb. Masters of the groove. He went on to be a great Producer. He's as significant as Barry Gordy, or a Phil Spector. He's still relevant, won a Grammy a few years ago for the song "Happy", won again tonight for a Beyonce collaboration.  He lives 10 miles from me and does charity shows for his town once in a while, I'll pay dear to attend next one.

I remember a couple of their songs from back in the day but the name Niles Rodgers didn't ring a bell.

Doobies , awesome. George Benson live, fabulous. I saw him in the early 80's outdoors at Caesars Palace. Amazing.

So the Missouri boy about my age says he saw Styx live but never once REO? For shame, and you call yourself a K-SHE 95 man.  😅

Sad but true.....never had the opportunity to see Riding the Storm Out live.  Cool story.....the Styx concert I attended in 1977 was held in an old skating rink at Lake of the Ozarks, called Lake Park Pavilion.  No seats, just bare concrete floor.  When my buddy and I arrived, people were sitting on the concrete a little ways back from the stage.  We walked up and sat on the stage until the concert started and had front row.  My buddy got to smack hands with Tommy Shaw after a guitar solo.  Great memories.

i like playing golf in a polo with tailored slacks and a pair of foot joys just as much as i enjoy playing in joggers, a hoodie and a pair of sneakers. just as comfortable with a quiet morning round drinking coffee and water as i am in the afternoon with a cart speaker, a flask of scotch, and a cigar.

there wouldn’t be a lot of threads on this site if everyone was like that, though.

Seems like we would have a few enjoyable rounds....
