Given some of the complaints from the other thread about struggling to hold greens due to lack of spin, I’m going to say the Cobra King Tec 2022.

Could also bend whatever irons you got a little stronger, that’ll obviously knock the spin down

Then what are they?  I’ve got a set of them and a set of Mizuno 225’s.  Lofts are the same.

More than just the lofts.  According to that theory, I could take a set of MB and strengthen the lofts and have player's distance irons.

Player's distance irons are most typically hollow construction, have a lot of weight down low for launch and have some sort of high COR spring face.  T100s has none of those.

Typically, strong lofted (player distance) irons, in the hands of many users, creates too much spin.  The common complaint is losing distance. Titleist has Tour Distance T200 irons.

In my bag, there's Tour Distance T200 17' 2i and 22' 4i, configured same as Player 5-W T100s irons.  Being a high spin player that hits the ball hard, creating more spin, to balance ball spin I use a low-spin ball.

There are certainly exceptions. I don’t know anyone that would consider a 44° PW to be a regular players iron. T100S’s are built like a T100 with added distance via stronger lifts but still keeping the integrity of the club. If you bent regular T100s you’d have more offset and less bounce. Plenty of tests out there show roughly 200 less rpm’s of spin and more ball speed with the T100S vs T100

They are no longer the same irons as the t100 just bent strong.  My 225’s definitely have more tech and are longer but I still think that t100s fit the category.  Kind of like the new level 902pd.  They may not be filled with tech but they have a players shape and are designed to go a further distance.  Really just semantics I suppose as they are two outliers, but that’s the category I put them in.

I know Maltby playability factor shows irons with higher or lower VCOG, but confused how that relates to launch characteristics and spin.

I figured there would not be much difference between a SGI and blade when it comes to launch/spin if they are the same loft and playing length, but it seems like many SGI and “Players Distance” have a Higher VCOG than many blades with larger soles and more bounce.

Example: the Mizuno MP-20 blade has a basic VCOG of .782 while the HMP 921 has a basic VCOG of .849 and the TM P790 is at .819 and the Cobra Forged Tec is at .845……….. why would a higher vertical center of gravity be a high trajectory club, while a lower VCOG is a lower trajectory club. I can see how a lower VCOG would produce more spin, but why lower trajectory?

im not an engineer, but it’s odd how a club with less loft, a higher VCOG and the same playing length, will (supposedly)  fly higher that a club with more loft and a lower VCOG . I didn’t see much difference loft for loft with launch or spin going from a Mizuno MP-67 to a HMB honestly. My spin may have been 150-200rpm lower with the HMB, but I’m not a robot.

Cog has very little, to almost nothing to do with spin numbers for irons. There isnt the vertical gear effect like in woods. As far as launching, cog can have an impact but not like you would think.  A further back cog leads to higher launch because of more shaft deflection. Vertical cog will effect how you deliver a club. Someone who is shallow, or a picker, will think high cog irons are aweful. Someone who has a much steeper AOA, will find a higher cog more often. When it comes to launch, spin, dynamic loft is king as the overall factor in determining your numbers.

A couple of side notes:

1) I dont consider a strong lofted 7 iron spinning at 5500 to be “low spin”. most of these have lofts of less than 30 degrees and 5500 spin for sub 30 degrees is plenty. You have to associate the spin to the loft,  not associate the spin to the number on the club.

2) T100s fits more into this category of iron than not. It does have a spring face in the 7 iron and below via micro slot, has stronger lofts, has tungsten, its just not hollow.

I am not sure if I understand all of the characteristics of the "players distance low spin" iron, but I just ordered a set of PXG 0211's.  They are replacing PXG Gen3 0311 P's.  Before that I played Ping i210 series irons, Honma 757 P, and Mizuno JPX 919 forged for perspective.  My handicap hangs around 0 and I need help hitting it higher, and I want something that is super forgiving when I clank it off the toe or thin it.

The 0211 feels very good and is the most forgiving iron I have ever hit.  The long irons are the easiest to elevate I have tried.

At the very least, these could be your long irons:

Srixon ZX4

Cobra LTDx

Wilson D9

Titleist T400

Clubs:  Ping G430 SFT / Cobra LTDx Max 3 Wood / Srixon ZX4 Irons 4-P / Titleist Wedges - S Grind / SeeMore M7x      Note: Views expressed are my opinions based on my experiences playing golf.  I reserve the right to change my opinions - without notice.
