New irons now or wait for 2024

Had the '21 T100 in the bag. Killed it in the fitting bay, but never translated to performance on the course. Look fantastic behind the ball and replaced MP20 irons that were similar in size. Just didn't see a jump in forgiveness or distance, while there was a significant drop off in feel compared to a blade. Had a weight come loose in my 4 iron head and decided to get rid of the set. This is not a popular take on the T100. Lots of people here love them.

Yes they are loved. Not everything fits everyone and thats ok. They do look good overall... i do think a few other irons were better feeling but idk.

Depends if you care to get the latest in greatest.  If so, I would wait to see what the new irons form each manufacturer looks like.

If not, there is no "best" time to get fit.

I mean, feel-wise I don't think anyone thinks they're a standout vs other irons in that segment. Neither were e.g. the AP2s back then. Good, not great.

Yep.

As I experience the T100 line, they take focus.  I was surprised how easy 718 CBs were, easier then my 716 CBs and 620 CBs, and surprised when I tested 718 MBs, they were easier than my 620 MBs.  A now retired tour caddy and club builder buddy worked at Titleist earlier; said 718 CBs were meant to be more forgiving than 716 CBs.  However, when they designed 620 series, the CBs were purposely designed to blend with 620 MBs, so specs are nearly the same as MBs, making them more challenging than most other CBs.

From my experience, the only forgiveness in T100 heads are the nuggets of tungsten in toe n heel.  In 620 CBs, tungsten was only in 3 & 4i.  The t100 slight cavity back is so high on the back, it doesn't play in my ball striking.  If I were to hit that high on the face, result would be pretty crappy.   I really like the T100 series.  T200 series is rather amazing too, but only have the 2 & 4 iron.

The T100 has a cavity on the bottom. It doesnt look like that because of the backing but there's a cavity under there. It's marketed as a "Dual Cavity"

Right now I'm on the fence about upgrading my irons, currently playing Titleist 718 CBs with PX LZ 6.5 which I like but would like a little more forgiveness and distance in my irons.

Will be looking to getting a players iron like T100, P770s, Apex Pros, i230, etc. but saw that Titleist and Callaway are going to be releasing new versions of their irons later this year so would it be worth it just to wait until these new releases before going to get fit.

Curious to know what people's thoughts are if you were in this situation

Just get the T100 irons. They are the best I've ever played. Feel is incredible. Yet compact and stable. I doubt the '23/'24 version, which won't come out until this season is basically over, will be a dramatic improvement.

Thanks.  I been playing and a student of Titleist blades for years, and aware how the T100 head is constructed.   Marketing and design may call it "dual..." but coming from 620 MBs, the clubs don't play like a cavity backed heads.  I am aware of the space (behind the t100 logo) as the gap between two slightly larger tungsten toe and heel nuggets, presumably under the little t100 logo is where COG is located.  But people experience clubs differently.

I wouldn't wait on irons, with a driver my answer might change. Titleist just released an iron line that is getting universal love across this forum. Srixon released in 2023 and is on a two year cycle. Mizuno has the JPX 923 line that was mostly released this year. P790 is new. You cannot go wrong with any of those irons.  If you are ready to get fit, now is as good a time as any.

I was going to get some new irons in Aug/Sep but got slammed with work.  Now I am at the point when I am going to wait until March because we are getting into the winter months and I am really not going to play that much.

Plus now I get to see what the PGA show in Jan has to offer, even though in recent years it hasn't been much but the new releases seem to happen in Jan/Feb

I am waiting on the new APEX coming.  I play P770 which I like but wouldn't mind a little more forgiveness.

I liked the APEX Pro but pretty close to the P770.

One thing I discovered with my P770 is I love the KBS Max 65 shaft.  It is the best shaft I have tried in a long time.  A am a low launch low spin player and with these I am getting more of both!
