Any Love for Ping Glide Pro Wedges

ZipinZ

Recommended Posts

Looking for some feedback, I did a search to see what everyone thinks of these wedges, had a dozen or so hits most are in the BST or looking for advice on what ferrules to get for reshafting.

I ending up picking up a used Ping Glide PRO 56* S10 for cheap, I registered it on the Ping website, it's Blue dot, 1 up, +1/2", D6 S/W with a TT 95 Elevate, Stiff ... exactly what I wanted.  I read the Ping Reviews, lots of 5 stars, not many con's.

If it performs I'll reshaft it with Recoils to replace my worn out Vokey SM6 56*

Any comments, pros/cons would be appreciated ?

Tks

David

I have a set of these wedges. They are on the smaller side as you may have noticed. They feel wonderful, spin control is fantastic, you can flatten them out with and play a variety of shots. If you like a smaller style of wedge, these are a definite contender. I am sure you will be happy with these. I have played both iterations. While I liked the tungsten toe in the first model, these don't lack anything compared and I am getting better spin on green side shots.

Tks for the input, yes I noticed it has a touch smaller face than my Vokey, I've read a few more reviews elsewhere, looks like Ping makes quality wedges. Going to hit the range tomorrow and do some side-x-side testing with a bunch of old worn out range balls to see how it performs.

Honestly, I was not a fan. I am a Ping guy through and through, but I much prefer the 2.0. Maybe it is because I like the wider sole version, and this one only comes in standard. But these dug too much for me. I tried out a 56, and thought it looked great. But I was quickly back to my 2.0 Stealths. Hopefully you like it though, good luck.

Tks for the replies fellas, it's appreciated.

Put in some time at the range this afternoon, was hitting the Glide PRO 56* consistently well, even with range balls the sound & feel was amazing. Hit mainly full shots taking a small divot, all went straight & all over the 100 yd Red Flag, it's a keeper. Can hardly wait to test it out on the course next week to see how well it can spin a Pro-V1.

A few pic's .... cheers

I also play the Ping Glide Forged Pro when I'm not using my Artisan wedges. The 55 and 59 have  a Ping WRX grind on them and I really enjoy them for versatility. Yes, a touch short heel to toe but I'm good with it. Good feel, spin, versatility, flight up and down. Excellent.

GFP Eye2Toe has entrenched itself in my bag. At first not all impressed with feel....but overtime practice has proved to be a special wedge IMO

ABSOLUTELY love the shape on this wedge....just wish they rolled the leading edge a touch more

Have 4 of these wedges in my bag for almost 4 years now. Love 'em.

Last fall, noticing I wasn't getting quite enough bite on them anymore I found demos of them at my PGATSS. I practiced a lot with the 60* in the store but I was probably the only one who did. LOL

So I grabbed the same 4 wedges and asked one of da boyz how much they wanted for them since the newer versions had been out for over a year already.

He looked it up in his handheld (they were doing inventory) and said "How does $9.99 sound ?". I said "Great, I'll take all 4". Best $50 I ever spent. 😎

I've been eyeing Ping wedges for a cpl years now too, mostly as they seem to be the best spin in wet conditions from the tests/reviews i've seen.... and I'm in the NW. Played 9 this afternoon, started in sun then sprinkling, then full downpour which turned into hail size of peas, rain, and finished in sun. Wedges in the wet were  worst part of game, hard to control pitches and longer chips. Might have to just buy to try a couple because no one around carries lefty ping wedges.

I have a set of Ping Glide Pro - 50, 55, 59 Eye2Sole in Nippon 105. I had WRX grind the sole in the 55 and 59.

Small to make them more playable, protection against moisture, good feel, precise, the grinds work for versatility. I  like them a lot. Use them when I'm not playing the Artisans.

I've been a Ping wedge player for years: MB, iWedge, OG Tour, Glide 2.0 Stealth, Glide Forged.

The Glide Forged Pro are my favorite. I'm a picker, so low bounce is perfect for me, and these deliver.

The 59* Eye2Toe is vastly underrated. It is versatile and has incredible feel and control. It outperforms all other full face/high toe wedges.

I'm in the market for new irons and may match a 53/54 to the set I buy, but the GFP 59 is firmly in the bag.

It's funny how this stuff goes. I think you called it a '1 trick pony' a while back.

I'm still playing mine, but I've found that it's a club best used situationally:

Greenside bunker

Under 40m rough

Flops

Buried lies

🚫 Full shot

🚫 3/4 shot

🚫 Chips

🚫 Fairway / tight lies

My "normal" 58º was pretty good at everything. The GFP59 is **really** good at what it is good at, and it's really bad at the rest. It's making approaches from about 50-70m very tricky for me now, and anything with a "good" lie is a no-go. It's a hell of a rescue club though. It's my "tow truck" because it will get me out of anything and take me a short ride away.

I'm considering the next round, replacing this one early. Not sure yet, but it's been a difficult task costing me a lot of shots finding out where I /can't/ play this.

Ha! It's delicate little monster...it is. Found a near mint 2.0 Stealth 56* orange dot last year- couldn't find a 58. So, I replaced the 58 with 56* stealth / GFP 59. All those little tight lies are handled by the 56, 90% of the time. I'm still learning those 60yd+ tight lie GFP  shots,  myself. The 2.0 Stealth was masterful at 75-80yd tight lie shots IMO

Just picked up a 56 and 60 both in the S grind and both raw. After a couple rounds I can’t believe how much spin and control I have with these. I’m a big wedge ho, constantly tinkering with the low end of my bag, but I’d feel stupid to take these out after seeing how consistent they performed for me
