Help. What is the best current shoe for a high arch tender foot ? Previously wore ecco biom hybrid 1st Gen

Recommended Posts

My feet have given me more issues lately.  I have been wearing a true links pair , and they feel good for about 5 holes. Then it’s constant issue.  The front of my heel toward and into the arch hurts.  There’s just no support.  I have a super high arch.  Wet feet print is toes and heel.  The middle of my foot doesn’t touch the ground except a tiny strip on the outside.     So far I’ve read about the ecco c4 and some hoka trail runners.

i walk 99 % of the time.  And usually early. So water proof is a must.  Looking to order today.  Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have a RoadRunner sports near you, stop by the store. They have very qualified workers there. One thing that i suggest to all my fellow high archers are insoles. I cannot tell you how much a difference they have made to my walking rounds. i could go on but too lazy to type. In a nutshell, overnight, no more pain or any type of footaches.

At roadrunner, they have this machine that the specialist will have you step on a warm pair of insoles. This thing molds the insoles to you feet. So custom insoles essentially, but at a fraction of the regular custom insole price and you have new custom insoles in 2 minutes. i paid $80 ($20 discount). Now i feel like im wearing my running shoes to golf. It is that good.  i believe i was told theyre good for 3000miles. i cant remember now.

Forget about the endless shoe shopping for high archers. Youll never find a pair that truly support golfers with high archs .. They don't exist my friend. We're a rare breed lol. Give it a shot.

Edit: I just realized RoadRunner sports is not nationwide. SO i suggest, finding a local running shoe store/specialist that does custom insoles).

I have a high arch as well. The shoe type I find work the best for me are the stiffer, more stable shoes. The softer sole, material shoes flex too much and don’t support my arch. I’ve tested many shoes, and my two favorites are the New Balance Contend and Footjoy Pro SL Carbon. For a light shoe the NB has very good arch support and stability. Very good for walking. While the Pro SL Carbon has more stability, it’s also a touch lighter. Both are great for being waterproof. However, the best thing you can do is find some insoles that offer additional support. Custom insoles are the best investment you can make for your feet.

Thank you.  I’ll start that search.  I haven’t ever heard of road runners. But that doesn’t mean it’s not near me.  I only recently tried chipotle….. so you see how often I walk on the wild side 😂

This is plantar fasciitis my friend. Get the insoles before you cause more damage.

You’re the second to say this.  I got a nice pm about it too.  I’m going to get on this asap.   I’ve always had tender feet.  But the last walking  Round was bad.   Thank you for replying.

I have the same exact thing. Custom insoles. I have full ones that I use for golf, and half ones I use for everything else (i.e just pop ‘em into whatever shoe I’m wearing).

Footjoy Pro SL Carbon are right up there with Ecco Biom hybrid models and the old Adidas Tour 360 m2 for me. As the other guys have stated, good insoles/orthotics will definitely help and won’t make you look more like a candidate for a Mel Torme fundraiser 😂(ok, last part was on me).

I have a spiked and spikeless shoes from the  Ecco Biom collection. These shoes have substantial arch support and a generous toe box. I've worn Eccos for years and they have been very comfortable.

I also have gone to RoadRunner and have purchased the custom insoles. I can vouch the insoles are great. I wear them off the course. The insoles may or may not fit well in the Eccos.  The Eccos have a lot of internal structure and padding.

I've also experimented playing with Brooks Glycerin running shoes using the custom insoles. I haven't noticed a drop in distance or any problems with ball striking while playing in running shoes versus golf shoes. It does feel odd though.

Caveat:  I'm older and not swinging fast anymore (probably only 100 mph nowdays-lost some speed after knee replacements and/or age). I am not sure if playing in running shoes would be a problem for a faster swing.

My running shoes are not waterproof which would definitely be a problem for your playing conditions.

Definitely look into insole, I used to have custom orthotics but they were just too thick for most shoes and my feet didn't like them. I've been using SuperFeet in my golf shoes lately and been enjoying them, they help my flat feet but also don't take all the brunt like my orthotics did so my feet can still work.

This isn’t a shoe issue.  As others have said, you need insoles. Like, yesterday!

Superfeet green is a decent place to start; easy to find, relatively affordable, and very durable.

Shoe issues are about things like the width of the toe box, or how waterproof, or durability.  Plantars and Morton’s Neuroma and others pain issues are about customization, regardless of the shoe.

As a fellow ‘high archer’ my favorite shoe has been the Ecco s-three. Hopefully you get help with the plantar fasciitis. Good luck👍🏻

The zero drop experiment with a few different True Linkswear and even some light, flattish hiking shoes had me on the brink of plantar fasciitis a few years ago - never, ever again.  Pro SL Carbons support me well (so do the regular ones), but I'm still thinking of getting insoles. The Traditions are really good, but less of a golf shoe, IMO.  I really can't stand "taller" golf shoes, so I avoid thick soles, but that doesn't mean support has to be sacrificed.  Got my eyes opened with a quality running shoe fitting (don't run, haha, but wanted some shoes that supported my arches and allowed me to walk about in comfort).  I often play in some cross trainers just because they support my feet so well, never seems to matter much to my score, but they don't come out when it's wet.

Have MN and wear SOLE insoles with the met pad, eliminated that pain, and have good arch support  Unfortunately these and other insoles do not fit properly in a lot of golf shoes, like ECCO, as they have built in arch support, even when removing the stock insole for a wider fit. Results in too much arch support and pressure on top of the foot.  Hunting for months now for a good quality stable, waterproof shoe , the hunt continues.

Used this pair of insoles off Amazon Saturday and definitely helped.  But I can see how custom would be better as I can feel where these lack contact a smidge here or there.

unfortunately the closest road runner to here is about 170 miles. Which is par for the course.  Most anything like that is far away from me.  I’m going to call the local runner shops in town today and see what they suggest or what locals do.

according to my watch I’m walking about 6.5 miles on average for a round.  Including the warmup etc … my feet don’t bother me at all until somewhere around the 4.5-5 mile mark.  Then the last mile or so is a battle.  And then at home I’m out of commission the rest of the day.  Like painful to walk to the car to go eat dinner etc. then after a nights sleep it’s ok again.  The rest of my body isn’t really in pain like this , ever. And if something is it’s lower back tightness.  In my 30s this wasn’t an issue. I could have walked 36 carrying ( I push now ) and wouldn’t have called my feet sore.  Sucks.  And I’m sure will only suck worse.

Blade - I'd bet any amount my arches are higher than yours, that's not a brag as finding shoes are a supreme hassle. Go online and get yourself a pair of DonJoy Arch Rival insoles. Pull the existing insoles out of your golf shoes and replace with these. I will almost guarantee they will help immensely. I play with New Balance Brighton shoes - I find NB shoes have a bit larger last that does a good job in accommodating insoles. I used super expensive custom orthotics for years - the DonJoys are superior in every respect at a fraction of the price.

Same issues for me with different shoes.  Agree with the FJ Pro SL and the Carbon adds stability.  They are very supportive without insoles, but you can get more support if needed.

The Currex golf insole is great without going custom.  Not as much cushion as I would like, but the support is great.  They have a golf, running, soccer/cleat, and other versions to fit the style of shoe and activity.

I have a high arch as well. The best I’ve found arch support wise are New Balance Fresh Foam Contend. Not the best looking shoe, but the best I’ve found for light weight, stability, and arch support.
