I’m curious how the long and short shafts feel compared to the mid ones given that there is no where I’ve gone that has those for demo. So with that said, how was a fitter know what might be good for someone who swings a 6 iron 87 mph?  Likewise, how does the building of the short and long irons work?  I haven’t seen any data on those irons online. I tried the 105S against my LA Golf 105S today and felt good.  Thoughts from fujikura?

Also did some spreadsheet work throwing out the highest and lowest smash.

For our fittings and on the course, we were mostly focused on 7 irons. Once we get these built, I’ll be able to share much more on the long and short irons. I’ll be posting some comparison charts with a long iron, a mid iron and a short iron vs. my current gamers and will be able to talk through feel differences.

@gsrjc that's a good question though. As @eric61 posted, we hit 7-irons, and I too am trying to decide how best to do a comparison. Will probably try to do before/after of 5, 7, and 9-irons to get one of each shaft type. There are several places around me that rent out hitting bay + launch monitor time, so that's what I plan to use. Indoors, unfortunately. I can probably find an outdoor facility but that might not be as convenient.

We did hear that they are not fllghted shafts, in case anyone is wondering, just slightly adjusted profiles for the long, mid, and short irons to optimize each segment. This is one topic @Fujikura Golf can explain better.

Thanks to you all for your feedback. I went ahead and worked with my fitter that I trust and we’re going to a build of Srixon combos and see what happens. I will say the Axiom mid feel slightly more stable than the second generation LA golf shafts. I did try the next gen of them that came out and boy did they feel good too. However, their tip is softer now and I had a lot of left pulls which I don’t want.

I was curious what you guys thought in general and realized you all hit only 7 irons. I hit the 6 iron with the mid. So we’ll see what happens and I’ll be sure to post after I get it in a few weeks.

If folks from Fujikura want to chime in please do.

Sorry if I missed this. But since there are three profiles for each flex does that mean they are tipped for each iron. Example 5 straight in then tip .5” for 6 iron and 1” for 7 or straight in for all of them?

You are correct, 5 straight in then tip trim the 6 and 7. Repeat for short irons, 8 straight in, then tip trim 9 and wedge.

This is the unknown right. So given they have 3 different sets basically. I’m not sure how the short shafts would play since you don’t tip them as much as say the traditional graphite where you cut so much to get it to the same length. These are already shorter.

I would recommend going to a certified fitter in your area. Once you find the correct weight and flex that fits you’re good. The shafts have been designed to work in the set. In essence, the short irons are already designed so you don’t have to tip trim them a ton to get the correct flex and tip stiffness. The long, mid, and short categories are each designed and engineered to perform as needed within that category.

I did go to a certified fitter but that doesn’t mean they are all fully trained in the new technology. I trust my fitter, we were just interested in knowing whether there can be more minute changes to the short, mid, and long.

The data set you had was interesting.  It almost looks like the spin is a touch low and I'm wondering if that is causing some of the high dispersions?  I'm 89-90 with the 7-iron, so close to yours.  I didn't see a lot of dispersion (front-to-back) with mis-hits and spin was very consistent overall.

I'm actually interested in doing the 4-AW and putting them also in the 56/60 on my own (yes, they were that stable) since I have a serious consistency issue with my short irons with mis-hits tending to be near the hosel.

Spencer had a set of Cobras with the Axioms and I was able to hit the short irons a bit and it definitely felt more stable (I toed it on 12 and still flew back to the hole with limited curve).

Iron head was Srixon ZX5 MKii stock loft. I was hitting prov1 RCT balls but my normal ball is the Srixon XV which I generate more spin on the course. I didn’t bring a Srixon ball because I knew regardless it probably didn’t matter since I was hitting the same ball with my gamer and the Axiom.  My current irons and wedges shafts are LA Golf gen 2.

Exactly with the data which makes it so interesting. I will say Axiom feels better than Gen 2 LA golf shafts so I went for it. We’ll see what happens on the course.

Maybe @Fujikura Golfcan chime in here, but the long, mid, and short iron categories are all designed specifically for those specific irons. Within each category they can be stepped soft or hard.

Love my 2014 TMs and the King Tour or T100 are calling my name.  Of course I am tempted by something new for these nice new shafts, but was thinking I should do a before and after of the old setup vs the new, at least for PW, 7i, and 4i or some similar combo.

Either way, happy to meet up for you to try the Axioms and Ventus. Yes, we should finally make that round happen lol.

Man, Rickie threw a number down with his King Tours today. Imagine how much better you’ll hit them with Axioms in them….. 😉

The one answer I’m still looking for, how do the Axiom’s perform relative to the Pro Tour Specs?  Currently game the 115x’s.

I just got my Axiom 105s in and narrowing down what iron set I am installing them in. I have the Fuji Pro 115s in my T100 irons and when I was out in Carlsbad played with a set of Mizuno Pro 225 with Axiom 105s. My initial thoughts, and one one round and some range time, is that the Axiom launched just a little bit lower and was a little harder to turn over. The first few shots on course I hit really solid but was right of the green because I wasn't releasing the club. Fujikura said that is what they are seeing from players when they first start hitting them, takes a few shots to trust turning it over and hitting it straight. The Axiom feel just a little more solid and seem to soften up the vibration just a touch more than the Pro.

I will have some more on them shortly, as soon as I get them built up!

So it sounds like the Axiom S is a plays a bit more stout than the Tour Specs.  I’ll be looking for your updates after you get some time with your irons?  I have the 115x in my ZX7’s so your setup probably won’t be much different than mine.  I need to compare the the torque specs and bend profiles too.  I’ll check Fuji’s website shortly.  Gotta say these Srixons are the real deal, first set I’ve ever played, BUTTERY feel, better than my Mizuno’s, may want to consider them too.

I'd say find a fitter to demo the various weights and flexes if possible. I thought for sure I'd be in the 105-X given the lighter weight but the 105-S was plenty, even though my set will probably be hardstepped once. This is coming from previously being fit into KBS Tour V 110-S and Tour S+, Tour S hardstepped, etc... you get the picture.

I wouldn’t say the Axioms play more stout. They have plenty of feel and you can load them, but they don’t feel boardy at all. By using Velocore they have a tighter dispersion than you would expect from a shaft with that doesn’t feel like rebar. What was very interesting is that all of the other guys hit the 75, 105, and 125 shafts and they were all surprised by the performance and feel.

I agree. Axiom 105S didn’t feel as boardy as my current LA golf 105S. I’m not saying LA golf is boardy in any way. The Axiom actually allows to feel the shaft flex on the way down from the top

of the backswing while I don’t feel it with the LA golf

Exactly, much more shaft feel, but even tighter dispersion.
