Bryson vs Sergio. “One Club”

Enjoyed watching that as well. To me that really shows the difference between a stylist and a by the numbers type player. Both can be successful but have different strengths for sure, and this certainly showcased Sergio’s…

Reminded me of a story from a friend of mine. He played in a money game a few times with Phil Blackmar and a bunch of low handicap players 20ish years ago. They played at a nice par 3 course somewhere outside Atlanta I believe. PB would have to use a 3 iron only to make it even and from how my friend describes it that really wasn’t enough. Amazing how good the best in the world are!

Agreed, that was a fun watch.  Sergio was great hitting soft cuts with that 5-iron.

Sergio such a brilliant ball-striker, one of the best I've ever seen. If he could putt and had a better mentality he should have won 6-7 majors. Just so natural how he shapes the ball there and distance control, top-class. Bryson hit some decent shots but take the driver out of his hand and he's a pretty average tour pro golfer.

You could say that about so many of the top pros…

but Bryson is an elite putter too

Yeah, I’ve watched enough of Bryson professionally and his YouTube stuff.  He’s more than just a long driver.  Obviously it makes the game easier when you can hit it 360 down the middle.

Did they play with string and a throw? Wouldn’t watch one second of either one.

I see you’ve received a couple “confused” reactions which in WRX speak means ‘I’m not confused, I just think your statement is wrong and ridiculous’. I’ll add I get where you’re coming from. Both verge on intolerable personalities. But they are a good golf watch. That said I didn’t watch just because I find them both tuff to watch and wasn’t in the mood. Again, great golfers.

I was actually confused by what “do they play with a string and a throw” meant.

But I also think its funny that someone would open a thread about those 2 guys specifically to say I don’t like those guys and wouldn’t waste my time on them. Its not that guy in particular, happens all the time on here and I always get a laugh.

Oh, and darn tootin’ i’m throwing you a confused imoji sir! Good day!

Bryson has become more likeable since he started wearing a normal hat 😂

I dont think sergio missed the center of that mb blade one time with all the artistry shots he displayed. Just shows what a talented ball striker he is. Was pretty apparent and envious

Reminded me of when I was working hole 5 at Rivera the year Niemann won it. Everyone hitting less than driver and trying to end up just short of the end of the FW. Day 1 Sergio hits driver and goes so far left it was hard to find. Next day driver again and smack dab into a tree about 100 yards off the tee. Walked over to see him yell at his caddie and abruptly hit shot 2 with 3 wood. Believe he was off to LIV the following year.

Min Woo Lee was hitting irons off the tee on television.  It is hard to be different when playing for serious money.

His driver was never his top top strengths. He isnt a weak driver in terms of distance, accuracy, or strokes gained but had bouts of fighting club face control for sure.

But his iron and wedge play has always been world class year after year reminiscent of his idol Seve.

Absolutely! Which made those decisions even more puzzling. Clearly I wasn’t in his head, but just my take/opinion is he was kinda “over it” or in pouting mode.

This kind of content from Bryson and Sergio is certainly more entertaining than what LIV offers.  I just checked and this YouTube video had 226k views.... which is more than an LIV event gets.

bryson's 58 has 1.3 mil views on his channel but only 420k on liv's channel

Truth. I remember him flat out topping a drive at Colonial years and years ago, one of those shots you can’t believe a pro would hit. Then proceeds to par. I’d say when he was at his best his ability to strike an iron was on par with anyone on the planet.

Since this thread will obviously attract Bryson fans and I shared a pic of Sergio @ the LACC US Open I’ll share this. Was on the same tee box (18) on Sunday. The players walk up a long bridge from 17 green to 18 tee. It was isolated from any fans. So I’m standing there waiting for the next group to come up and see Bryson and his caddy headed my way. They are having a convo and I overhear Bryson express to his caddy “If it wasn’t for this ‘f word’ driver I woulda won this damn tournament”. He proceeds to take driver and push it way right. He was using the Stealth at the time and moved out of it not long after. Just thought it was some cool insight into his week there.
