Golf goals for 2024

gticlay

Recommended Posts

Well, I completely failed my 3 year effort to be 5 index by 50. That was disappointing as I went to the gym, practiced a bit (not normal for me) and played the most golf in the last 2 years I’ve ever played (around 70 each year)

In the past I’ve been a solid 6.X so I thought I could make it happen. Not sure what my goal should be for 2024. I have a different situation now so less time for golf. Maybe I should focus on getting out there… 25 rounds minimum? Index goal 7? (9 is my best in a decade with minimal golf for most of it. Like 5 rounds a year or less even some years).

What will be your golf goal this season?

Get out as often as I can.  Break 80 at least once.

1.   Make the majority of my range time (I volunteer at our course so I get free range balls) lob wedge through 9 iron.
2.  Keep the same putter (Yes! Marilyn) in the bag all year.
3.  Record anything I watch on Golf Channel so I can fast forward through the Golf Now and Capital One commercials.

Get my index below five. Its 6.8 and I don't play much in late fall and winter due to living in a place with seasons.
Get my swing speed to 125 MPH. Hit 120+ several times this past Friday but I'm about to go on a cut and won't start bulking again until September so looking like a 2nd half of the year goal.
Break Par. I've shot even par and missed a birdie putt to break it earlier this year.

Golf minimum twice a month.

Play more courses. Tick off a couple more Open venues and target some Top 100 tracks. Scottish and Portuguese trips booked. New irons by March.

If you haven’t already been, you’ll love it. I went to Scotland May 2022 and April 2023. Just incredible golf. Cruden Bay was my favorite there and yes I got on The Old in 22. Also got on Carnoustie with a member. Drove from Marbella to Algarve late 2022 and then up to Troia maybe 15 mins from the new Dunas course. Troia was a RTJ Sr. links that is a real treat to play. All 7,000 yards! Played it a few times from the back and love love love that layout. Have some great trips!

1) Really want to break 70 again. It’s been since March 2022. Had a shot earlier this week and blew it.

2) Play more intelligently. I tend to score much better when I put the ball in play opposed to trying to hit it as far as I can.

3). Play the entire year with one set of irons. Highly unlikely this happens.

After taking a break from golf for 5 years to dedicate my time to my family, I returned in 2023! Joined my local club and went bull bore back into addiction… goals for 24’

1. Lower my handicap, goal to be around 5.

2. Play 75 rounds - including a few tournaments

3. Get both my girls into the game more- they are 7 and 11.  Showing some interest when they tag along to the club with me.

I started last year as a 20hcp with the goal of finishing as a 12. I ended at a 13 which I am fairly happy with. This year I would like to see that drop to a 7; although I know that might be a stretch so anything single digit I will be very happy about but as long as I drop at least a stroke I will be happy that it’s moving in the right direction.

I also have a longer term goal for when I reach 50. I will be 44 at the end of this year and I really want to try to be under 2hcp by 50.

I’m not holding my feet to the fire on any of these goals but it would be nice to reach them. In the end, it’s all about the journey, not the destination.

I want to develop a preshot routine that focuses me on what I'm trying to do.  And not a slow one, either.   Because I'm a quick person and I play quickly.  I will start a separate thread about it, now that you've triggered the thought for me. 🙂

@Sp4zRX - what did you do to drop the 8 strokes?  What are you planning on doing to shave the 3 to get to single digit goal?
