<edit> also doesn't look like it changes the insides at all, so likely little or no change in performance.

The dye won't have anything to do with it, but that ball will NOT fly straight. That cover centering is atrocious. Where did you get those so I can make sure to avoid.

I cut a section off with my cut off wheel, it's far from centered.

Balls marked with "TOUR" like that are designated for the range at events. Likely all balls that didn't pass quality inspection and would have been thrown away at the factory. Only place those should be hit is on a range or into a pond.

So you are saying the dye won't effect it. Thanks.

lol, the dye definitely didn't mess that ball up, it was messed up from the start. Not sure about other balls. Maybe the weight would increase slightly? If you have a small scale, check the before and after weights.

Two random thoughts:

1. I remember seeing a video that Dean Snell did several years ago where he talked about the challenges of making yellow golf balls.  His point was that it isn’t just a matter of adding yellow pigment to “normal” golf ball paint, that it’s very difficult and expensive to get right.

2. Nit picking, and won’t matter to most, but wouldn’t a dyed ball be non-conforming?

I believe Dean Snell's comments about not being as simple as changing the pigment in the paint are in reference to cast urethane where you want to add color to the urethane vs tpu.  For tpu, it "can be" as simple as adding pigment to the urethane.  Also, some balls only change the color of the paint on the ball and the color of the cover itself (without paint) is the same for all balls regardless of the paint color.  I "think" the Vice balls are like that. All covers (urethane layer) are white, just different color paint on the various balls.

Yes, the balls would be non-conforming as far as events that require the balls be on the conforming list go.  They would not necessarily be non-conforming as far as the general rules of golf go though unless it is suspected that the dyeing process resulted in balls "whose performance characteristics have been deliberately altered".

I'm not sure that matters though.... any way you cut a sphere, a centered core would still be..... well, centered.

I have never heard that the Tour ball is any different from the standard except it was hit a few times at the range at a tour event. Not a reject ball or anything. So if the core isn't centered, then it's a bad Pro V1 I didn't pay full price for.

I won't be playing this ball anyway seeing how it's missing a chunk out of the side and all.

I really like the Honma. A got 6 dozen for cheap off eBay a while back and I'm almost out.

<edit> I just checked eBay and they want $24 a box. I think I paid $50 for 6 dozen, damn.

Signature Brands is licking their lips at the moment...

Could they remarket PAAS easter egg dying kits, mark up the price by about 1000% percent, and sell them to golfers?

Survey says yes!

It's funny I read about dyed golf balls on r/golf and someone wondered if you could do a divide type ball, I decided to give it a try and found out it's possible, but would be very tedious. The one thought I had was using an egg drying kit. I'll attach a picture of my results. The issues I had were balls moving when checking color, putting in the dye, and then a little lighter spot where the ball was resting in the container.

Also, as you can see, probably wouldn't work well as an alignment aid or anything like you could with divide balls.

Either using the Easter egg dipper or just fill the a dish half way might get the divide effect.

On the wheels I made a holder out of a coat hanger.

I have a little dish from some takeout that has a nice guideline, as well as another pan that works well. The issues were balls rolling as I put them in or took them out, or if they were stable then a lighter spot where the ball was resting in the container. Overall it was a fun experiment, and we've started putting easter stuff out at work, so I should be able to test my theory if I REALLY want to. It's a fun way to mark a ball, but slightly irritating for someone with obsessive compulsive tendencies.

Just a side.  Please don't hit these on someone's sim into their screen.  The chance it comes off on their screen would be pretty high.  Even colored balls from the manufacturer will come off on most screens.

I haven't noticed any color coming off and I only use colored balls on the sim (Honma, Cut and Titleist). I haven't tried the dyed balls on the sim, but I also don't need to because there are plenty of white ProV1's around.

I have seen no indication they are any different from the standard ball.  They are just marked TOUR.  I bought a bunch and they perform identical to my ProV1's that don't say TOUR.  Giving your staff players rejects to practice/warm up with seems like a terrible idea.

Here is a comment from Titleist regarding balls labeled PRACTICE:

Link:  https://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/team-titleist/f/golf-balls/11095/what-is-the-true-difference-between-a-pro-v1-and-pro-v1-practice

I can't find anything specific for balls marked TOUR, but I would assume they are no worse(possibly better) than the PRACTICE ones.

So I figured why not and just did the few dozen white I still had on the shelf. These were all done at the same time, but the cover material differences results in a slightly different hue. The Cut Red was the least absorbent of the batch.
