What is Bryson’s bulge?

The irons conform so they have to reason not to. The first set were denied because there was an issue with the groove spacing but they accepted them once that was fixed.

For some reason I thought that was deemed illegal ages ago, but I guess not.

Roll and bulge supposedly helps mitigate some of the gear effect from mishits out on the toe and heel.  He was saying that his Avoda irons fly straighter on mishits as a result.  He played great yesterday and played ok considering it was a really windy day today.  I'm going to see how this all pans out.  Might even pick up a set of variable length when they become available.

Apparently Bryson has been working on irons that have a bulge on the face like woods do. On Tuesday they were approved for play in USGA governed events. He’s been using them in the rec league and his girs have been much better than when he was on bye PGA Tour.

No. He hasn’t put them in play until the Masters. He’s been playing Ping irons. . .but testing with the new clubs. Once they were approved, he was confident enough to make the change for the Masters.

They don’t have traditional variable length clubs. They have combo length that is single length from 7-LW and 4-5-6 as variable length (or something like that). Then they have a different set that’s single length.

I am interested too. But adding the LA golf shafts with these irons makes it a $3000 set of clubs. Honestly, had I seen this before building my own custom set of single length irons, I probably would have given it a shot.

Ah, ok.  I thought I remembered them offering steel shafts of some sort for 1300 as well.

The Avoda combo length does seem to make more sense than the traditional single length irons. Having wedges that are 6 iron length never made sense to me, very few golfers are good enough to benefit from that. Having all your scoring clubs (w-8i) that are 9 iron length makes a lot more sense.

Looks like Bryson is playing a blade style head, don't see that one on the Avoda site yet, their non-wedge irons are a serious cavity back style head.

Yes. You can get the KBS shafts for around that price. I may reach out and see if I can order heads only because I would want to use the Paderson One shafts.

If they can do heads only, shoot me a PM and give me a heads up.  I may pick up a set as well.

There is a post in the 19th hole’s ’Hobbies outside of golf?’ thread that I’m certain was also one of ur titles. I had it all cued up and ready to roll a while back and had abandon ship and hit refresh. I had reached my ‘nonsense/joke’ limit for the day.

Welp, there goes any hype Avoda built up. He lit it up in Round 1 then turns his back on the irons like they're at fault. Poor little clubs did everything he told them to.

That’s why Cobra cut him loose, or at least one of the reasons. I know they were tired of his constant criticism of their equipment, all of which was extremely custom and very much a pain for them to make.

Just the name recognition is probably worth it for any startup. Unfortunately for Bryson startups are probably the only choice he has left, it's hard to imagine any major golf manufacturer wanting to get involved with him, the single lengths just haven't caught on to make it a worthwhile investment.

No way to know for sure at this point, have to wait and see. Most of the things that get endorsed by a "known" don't end up getting trashed by them the same weekend. If he turns around and keeps doing anything with them now they'll continue getting a little buzz at the rest of the Majors, but he's the face they're going to thrive or flounder by as a brand now as the only one playing their product.

Any publicity is good publicity in most cases but I'm iffy on this one at the moment. Guy started the brand simply because he likes to tinker thus even a modest bump is a win so he has that going for him which is nice.
