Jeans on the Golf Course - Yay or Nay?

Played a course last weekend that is private but allowing some public play this year. I wore dress pants, etc. Almost every one of the members I saw on the course was wearing jeans. I was the most dressed up person on the course. It didn't say anything about no denim allowed on their site, but I erred to the side of caution. Easy. Jeans are not the devil.

One thing I definitely noticed as I played BOTH my rounds in jeans this brisk windy weekend: jeans don't flap uncontrollably on your legs like a flag when playing in 25-35 MPH winds. Tough conditions but still managed a 77 and a 75 for my two rounds.
You need different jeans if they are that tight. This ain't a rodeo.

Does anyone know how I can get OUT of seeing "Jeans on the course" and "Shorts on the course" showing up every single time I hit "replies to my posts"?

I regret completely that I ever replied to either thread, especially now that two years have past on these ridiculous topics.

In another thread, I ---deleted---- ALL of my replies. It's the only way I know to get rid of "replies to my posts" invasion!

I'm affraid that it would also be the only way to keep the "replies to my posts" with NO NEW REPLY from popping up and STICKING in in there. You can't get rid of those insects even when you click on them being read.

This topic still cracks me up. First, I generally wear khakis and a polo when I golf. However, jeans doesn't in any way affect how you play golf, how you behave on a golf course, or indicate disrespect at all. There is a difference between nice jeans and worn down hole-filled moth eaten garbage. Just like you can have brand new dockers or the ones that have been through the wash a few hundred times too many. Someone with a nice, dark pair of jeans with a long sleeve shirt under a designer tee-shirt for layers looks just fine on a golf course. And when said person fixes their divots, doesn't step in your line, keeps up play and follows what most people consider to be good golf etiquette then quit being a fuddy duddy.

We aren't talking about private clubs with attire rules here, if you want to debate those it is a different discussion entirely. If you don't like the rules at your course (one way or the other) then don't be a member there, go join somewhere that enforces a rule that agrees with *your* definition of golf attire. The only two things I care about on a golf course are:

1) pace of play - keep up and follow good golf etiquette
2) wear clean, well kept clothes - I don't care if they are jeans or a tux, make sure they are clean and in good shape and I don't care. I'm not a fan of humor or crude t-shirts, but that isn't to say a nice American Eagle tee-shirt isn't fine.

No, they don't. They slap their logo on flat bill hats that some Chinese factory makes. Talk about sticking on topic.

Practice what you preach.

Flat bill hats look far more out of place on a golf course than a pair of jeans ever would. Where I grew up, flat bill hats were worn EXCLUSIVELY by thugs and wanna be gangsters. Is that the image that you would prefer on the golf course?

Some people call it young, fresh, trendy, whatever-catchy-title. I just cant get into that. They will always be the mark of a wanna be thug in my mind.

I highlighted the problem with your argument. Not everyone thinks what you think, not everyone grew up where you grew up, that is *your* association. It is an ignorant blanket opinion that makes you prejudice for no good reason at all. Where I grew up flat bill hats were worn by truckers and farmers, sports hats came with normal bills and everyone curved them on their own. It isn't "young", it isn't "fresh", it is a TREND. I'd rather have flat bill hats on my golf course than people who have no tolerance for what other people choose to wear, be that jeans, shorts or flat bill hats. As I said before all that I care about is that the clothes are: clean, in good shape, and not vulgar or overly inappropriate (a nightgown for instance).

Interesting. I'm in Nebraska, which to me is pretty much just like Iowa. I have never, ever seen a farmer or a trucker in a flat bill hat. Flat bills here are also associated with the wanna be gang bangers. Not that any of this is pertinent to the discussion, I just found in interesting, I think if a farmer showed up to the local coffee shop in a flat bill, he would be laughed right out of town. I do agree with your last statement though, clean, and in good shape, other than that, who cares.

So, my statement is an ignorant blanket opinion that makes me prejudice for no good reason at all, yet, your last statement (see, you're not the only one who can bold certain things to try to make someone appear ignorant) is perfectly acceptable? Hello hypocrisy.

On a related note, just our of curiosity, I googled the origin of the flat bill hat. The first page that came up, www.flatbillhats.net incidentally, had this little gem tucked in the statement on the first page:

"The origin of these hats can be traced to ghetto proliferation in America, when the social divide between the two in the streets of New York was obvious. As a matter of fact, curved bill hats are perceived to have more suburban look in it.".

So, back to my original point, of which you made a poor attempt to discredit, flat bill hats are for wanna be gangsters and thugs. If someone wants to wear one, by all means, have at it. If someone wants to wear a moomoo to the golf course, by all means, have at it. As long as the person displays proper etiquette on the course, and maintains a decent pace of play, I personally couldn't care less what they wear.

and on another note go to taylormadegolf.com and then go to the shop section and under hats there are flat bill RBZ hats for sale...but for some strange reason i cant find any jeans!! thats crazy lol
So I followed your line of logic on this and googled "golf jeans". Here's the link:
http://my.ceogolfshop.com/houndstooth_jeans_p/loudmouth-jeansh.htm

Based on YOUR OWN logic jeans would now be acceptable attire on the course. So when are you getting a pair to go with that flat brimmed hat?
