Jeans on the Golf Course - Yay or Nay?

I'll say it again. It makes someone look un-classy and does not show respect to the game. How hard is it to put on some khaki shorts or pants. Jean shorts are just as bad. Come on people!
Dress like a slob and wear jeans= I will have preconceived opinions about you golf wise. Might as well slam a 6 pack and chain smoke while you play, as I have seen many do this. I def won't be playin with you.

Have some self pride and clean it up!

When I was younger I wore jeans once in awhile, if I was in a hurry from work. It never felt right to me.
Now that I am in a private club, jeans are not allowed.

Simply due to comfort I don't wear jeans. I used to wear them without a problem, but after becoming more meticulous about my swing I can't wear jeans and play golf comfortably. Cheers to those who can.

I find that a perform much better without jeans, however wearing golf apperal does maximize my performance during my game.

Here is my take.

Whether or not a person has class is not dictated by his attire, its dictated by his actions. As far as paying respect to the game- I think it starts with the course. If it's a facility that takes pride in it's course, amenities, customer service, etc...then they will have a dress code that dictates that, so if you are playing there- I think a golfer should meet or exceed their minimum requirements.

If its a goat track with pea gravel in the bunkers, 3 wheel golf carts, dandelions in the rough, no dress code and allows outside coolers onto the property - they obviously don't care. Their client base isn't "golfers" its people that "play at golf". As a golf community- we need these types of players to come out in droves, fall in love with the game and turn into "golfers", so if an ability to wear jeans and a t-shirt makes them more comfortable while playing the local goat track- so be it.

I wont judge golfers wearing jeans unless they're complete hacks or new to the game then i will purposely accidently hit up on them if they're taking too long... but otherwise, i wear jeans on the course if weather permits! =]


i would rather see good golfers wearing jeans and a hoodie, than see hacks dressing like they own the Nike store and hit 6-9 shots on every hole.

Lots of hot & bothered people about jeans on a course. If the course rules don't permit them, don't wear them. Otherwise, wear them if you want. It's stupid to judge people based solely on what they wear. Are we still in elementary school?

I'd be skinned alive if I was caught wearing jeans on the golf course regardless of what the course policy says. It would either be by my old man or the GM at the old course I worked at lol. I've played at a few courses where it is acceptable, but not encouraged. Still wouldn't dare to do it.

Golf is a sport - I wouldn't wear jeans for running, football, tennis or any other sport for that matter; they simply don't give enough freedom for my swing. I rarely wear long sleeves and try to wear (tailored) shorts when viable for the same reason.

That being said, I have no problem with it so long as it's permitted by the course. I could see myself playing in jeans at a small town muni if I'm just goofing around for a few holes.

i usually dont care what people dress like but for some reason, jeans on the course just doesn't seem right to me. It's like the people who wears jeans to the gym. I look at golf as a sport and wearing jeans to work out, play sports, etc. just doesn't seem right or comfortable for that matter.

but then again, i've worn boardshorts a few times and I'm sure some of you probably think wearing boardshorts is worse then jeans.

I did it today, never done it before, probably will never do it again. My club allows them after Nov 1st because it's cold to us Texans and this morning it was 40 and windy so I said to hell with it and wore some nice designer jeans. I can't swing worth %$^T$% in jeans, no room to move because I actually wear jeans that fit. I'll just play in the afternoons when it's cold from now on.
