Jeans on the Golf Course - Yay or Nay?

If you are wearing jeans on the golf course you are a HACK- No place for jeans unless its a 9 hole municipal course and you have a 6 pack in the basket in the cart

grew up & play at a country club that doesn't even allow denim on the premises...

though I played a round at a public course for the first time in a while and I wore shorts and an un-tucked t shirt ... felt very different but very relaxed ...

My personal code of honor as a gentleman, I will not wear shorts on the course, so I wear jeans!

In my part of the country, everyone wears jeans to any event you can imagine, from golf to funerals. There was an article in the last GD that some clubs are relaxing their dress codes in an attempt to accommodate newer and younger members. I wear them all the time, but if I played a course with a dress code, I would happily follow the code.

I have done it twice in my life; both times in the last two weeks, and I played great both times. Took off early last Mon. to get to the course in time for super twilight and got paired up with a young kid who thought he was hot s*** who was telling me about how he just tried to qualify for the US Open earlier in the day...We both shot even for 9 as it was getting dark.

I think the jean FJ wingtip combo on a public course is one of the stronger looks out there.

I agree with Farmer, it is the same in my area. I have tried to tell people on this forum, that many good peoiple wear jeans, not just nasty ones.

At my local course, you would get constant double takes if you showed up in golf pants/ khakis. Khaki shorts are the norm and you will see the ocassional athletic shorts guy. Less than 50% of the people are wearing collared shirts. at least 25% of the people don't have sleeves on at all. You see a lot of crocks and sandals with spikes on them. Jeans in the colder months.

Have fun and wear whatever you want as long as its within the rules if the club.

I typically wear cargo shorts and a golf shirt (Adidas or Quagmire)

No - So many more options that are comfortable. If you're going to drop some $$$ on your gear you should consider how much more comfortable good golf clothes are for that 18 hole walk.

Living in the midwest, jeans seem to be a lot more popular then where everyone else is from. It's not normal to be playing in a group with everyone wearing jeans. Granted I see it in mostly casual golfers who play after they get off work.

Your home course is high-end enough to charge $100 per round, yet allows denim jeans to be worn? And half of the golfers actually wear jeans? That just seems crazy to me. I've only been playing golf for about 15 years, but I've never once worn a pair of jeans on a golf course.

Do people actually walk 18 holes of golf while wearing jeans? It's just silly.

I tend to be rather democratic; if you would normally wear jeans, feel free. If you spend your days in dress slacks and button-downs, feel free to wear the casual wear to which you are accustomed. As long as you adhere to the rules of golf and aren't a boor (which is not related to your dress), I will have no problem playing a round with you.
