Jeans on the Golf Course - Yay or Nay?

Recommended Posts

Jeans are crap for golf - they get wet and stay wet, they don't stretch enough, and they aren't that warm compared to proper water/windproofs. Other than the fact that they look naff on the golf course (and quite often off it), they serve no practical use other than to use up 63 pages of bandwidth on Golfwrx....

I don't like to wear jeans, I like to wear kuiu camouflage hunting pants!
[/quote]
Those look like "winter camo" ?. Anyways, I was doing some Xmas shopping for my bro the other day at a Factory Outlet Wrangler strore, and was curious about their nice looking more brown camo jeans/trousers. They would be "summer camo" if I recall from my hunting days a million years ago in High School.

I might get some for kicks, and if it is really cold, I'd sport them on the course as well.

those ones aren't winter camo, they are for places with lots of brown, the grey is supposed to break up the solid shape of a human. I've been caught in the open before and the deer just stared straight through me, no idea I was there. Kuiu also make a nice pattern that is more green based if that is what you are looking for.

No chance in hell would I wear jeans or cargos to the range, club house bar or the course. I own no cargos and very few pairs of jeans. I'm not snooty, it's just tradition, respect and manners.

this topic is tired. "why can't i wear a dress when i play basketball?" i suppose you could, although you'd look like an idiot.

if you don't mind looking like: a) a redneck, b) a 120+ golfer, or c) you just don't care, than go ahead and wear jeans.

There is that word "tradition" again! If your idea of tradition of a polo shirt and trousers then it is traditional as far back as the 1950's, that's all.

Unless of course you play in full highland dress in a 14th century tradition?

I live in a rural area where people are not as formal. Most of the better players around here are not concerned with what they are wearing and are there to play golf and not impress anyone. I like to wear nice clothes to play, but will wear jeans and not worry about it on occasion.

I am new around here, and don't want to ruffle feathers, but why so much hating on jeans? If the course doesn't have rules against them, why would you care? I play at a muni course in the Portland area, and quite a few of the better players wear jeans. We are Americans dammit. The director of Portland golf wears jeans sometimes, along with several club champs. Before you try to slam our club, we have one of the most competitive clubs in the country, according to a GolfWorld article awhile back. I would much rather see jeans than Loudmouths, anything plaid, or lycra infused crotch enhancers. Hating on jeans is just another reason for people to think this is a snobby, elitist game, but maybe that's what some of you like about golf.

I agree with you bro! As I stated a few posts above yours., the better players around here aren't concerned with dress, but with just the game of golf. Now I'm not talking about ragged jeans and a tattered t-shirt, but nice looking jeans and a collared shirt.

No I do not wear jeans and most places I play do not allow it. I would think it would be not pleasant wearing jeans but everone has their own opinions I guess as to whats comfortable. It does not mind me seeing others in jeans if it is allowed so more power to them if they enjoy it.
